:::My change was instant. You need to do an actual minor edit to your user page, like plunking in a random letter. Then put in your proof code in the summary, I left out the parentheses just in case. Save, go back to the transfer page, then name and p/w. It should then confirm instantly.--[[User:Mondoblasto|Mondoblasto]] ([[User talk:Mondoblasto|talk]]) 00:16, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

Revision as of 02:58, 22 October 2010

Forums: Village pump → Welcome to the new Wowpedia!

Welcome, everyone, to the new site! We're glad you decided to join us. I hope you are settling in well - there's a few tweaks here and there left to be made (and feel free to help edit away stuff that doesn't look right), but mostly it should work like a charm. If you haven't yet, head over to reclaim your WoWWiki username. If you need (or want) an account rename or merge or have any other problems, let us know.

Now, a few details about the move: We are being hosted by Curse. They are very excited to be working with us and we should see some nice improvements (tooltips auto-updated from Sigrie and the like) coming down the road. They are doing this ad-free (nice change from Wikia, huh?), at least for a few months. We did have a few other options - some of them very tempting - but the Curse option just clicked (and we had to move fast with Wikia shoving a skin down our throats).

Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 23:58, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
A big thank you to Curse, then, for being so awesome.
Thank you for creating this site! I was very upset with the new skin at the old site. This looks and works way better. Also, a thousand thank yous to Curse for hosting it!
But... could we please have a real forum instead of this cumbersome - and error-prone - Wiki-page forum simulation? Please?
-- Alisonnic (talk) 23:44, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Can someone make a Firefox search plugin for this site? That was a feature back on Wikia that was very useful. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 00:34, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Created. Enjoy! Ressy (talk) 00:45, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Awesome, thanks. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 00:51, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
I migrated my username over, but I only see my contributions before October. I'm assuming the wowwiki transfer hasn't completed yet? Will there be a status update on how much has transferred or when both wikis are synced up? --Kanegasi (talk) 01:34, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
The actual edits are in, they're just not showing up in your contributions - and if there is an edit we missed somehow, feel free to go ahead and add it. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 01:35, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Cool, thanks for the info. I'll keep an eye on my previous edits. I would also like to note that for some reason, I always have the habit of clicking the top logo of a site since that is the most common way to get to the homepage. This new wiki makes that minor habit work a lot better since the top logo on wikia brings you to wikia, not wowwiki. I wasn't really bothered to think of my stance about the transfer issue, but since wikia just rolled out their new look and seeing the way this site feels, I do believe you have not made anything remotely close to a bad decision. To add to the awesomeness, I am an avid Curse user and they are the only way I maintain my addons. Awesome job, and keep up the good work! --Kanegasi (talk) 04:39, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Hi, I changed mi nick from wowwiki since I always use this in my wow comunities. Is there any possibility to migrate my stats to this one?. btw oh fuck yeah, love this skin. --Petrovic
Please edit your WoWWiki user page on WoWWiki to point to your account here. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 04:19, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Done. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 04:23, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

Will Curse take any part in the management, or are they giving carte blanche to you guys as the original admins? --Joshmaul (talk) 01:52, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

They're pretty much going hands-off. They are helping us with getting everything set up as well as press and the working with Sigrie stuff I mentioned but that's about it. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 01:54, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

This actually is better than the other. Uses full width of one's monitor! And tooltips will be great! --Tsavi (talk) 02:13, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

It would probably be a good idea to throw some kind of notification onto the WoW Forums, at least in General and UI forums. I would have done it myself, but I figured the website admins would want the honor. --DrDoom (talk) 04:44, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

Just wanna say, love the new site, I wasn't interested in getting involved with the fight with wikia but having seen what they've done and what has been done here, I am more then happy with the way everything turned out. Congratulations on all the hard work everyone put in to make this so smooth, very much appreciated. Max Krist (talk) 05:01, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

Love the new logo, looks great! SnakeSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3For Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 06:22, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

Maybe it's a cache thing, but I didn't see the new logo until I logged in. I got the wowwiki one. /chomp‎ Howbizr(t·c) 07:17, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

So were on curse now? please tell me there isn't going to be some premium feature like the rest of the curse sites. >.< Kiingy (talk) 07:53, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

of course they will. Editors pay 2 cents per letter when they edit, premium members don't. But seriously, from what I gathered, they won't. Btw. Could someone merge Eluna into Elunatic? Thanks! Elunatic (talk) 08:02, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
As an addon author I LOVE the premium side of curse! ;) I have like £50 of vouchers from it saved up so far (thinking of getting something wow related with them!). I LOVE the way that the authors who make the site what is is get something back (Unlike Wikia)! ;) Also we get premium accounts automaticly (if your addon is good enough and used enough!). SO HELL YER! Good choice guys... Also I LOVE the skin and the new logo/icon (although as mentioned before at first I didn't get the new ones only when I came to this page did I see it. I was def the WOWWiki one when I first came as I noticed that. Zasurus (talk) 17:18, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

Glad to see we're back to doing things the old way. And curse was probably the best choice anyway! :) Solocommand (talk) 11:24, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

Beautiful looking site. Do have one question though, is there a page similar to how /Special:MyHome/ functioned on the old site here? Saberd (talk) 13:13, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

I am afraid that there's not. Matix22 (talk) 13:19, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

I regained my account, but is there a possibility I can rename it? And by the way something like My Home and an editcounter would be nice :) TheSatyr (talk) 13:33, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

What do you want to rename it to? --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 13:35, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
It's not a big change, but I would prefer "DeSatyr", which was also my wanted name two years ago but didn't work somehow... TheSatyr (talk) 13:39, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Done. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 13:46, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks :) DeSatyr (talk) 13:47, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Can you change 'Matix22' to just 'Matix' as well? Thanks in advance. Matix22 (talk) 15:47, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Done. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 15:49, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
And now while we are speaking of name-changes could my account be changed from "Aedror42" to just "Aedror". - Aedror42 (talk) 18:57, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Done. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 00:13, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
@Saberd, i believe that the closest thing you can come to /Special:MyHome/ is /Special:RecentChanges/, hope thats close enough :) - Aedror42 (talk) 19:33, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Erm, well, this is WoW Fan Story Writer from WoWWiki, it doesn't seem to be letting me transfer my account here. I'm doing what it asks on the reclaimation page thing, but does it take time for an admin to transfer my account, or something? Thanks! Grimn358 (talk) 21:24, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Do you want to use the name you had there or the name you had here? --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 00:12, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
My change was instant. You need to do an actual minor edit to your user page, like plunking in a random letter. Then put in your proof code in the summary, I left out the parentheses just in case. A Call to Arms

The new site is live. There are now two wikis, each competing to be the de facto wiki for WoW information. In the end, we don't know which site will survive. But one thing's for sure: if this site wants to survive, it needs to distinguish itself from the old one. People need a reason to come here. People need a reason to stay here.

This is no easy task, but it can be done, and I believe we have a golden opportunity to do so. A major patch was just released, and we're on the eve of an expansion. There is a sickening amount of outdated information on the wiki. The pages for most class abilities, talents, glyphs, and items are flat out wrong right now. Some of this information dates from the BC and vanilla eras.

If Wowpedia wants to distinguish itself, it needs to be known as the place for the most up-to-date and reliable information on World of Warcraft.

So, this is a call to update Wowpedia now. Many players are wondering what's up with their class right now, and if Wowpedia can provide that information, it will have the edge over the competition. Pick a subject you know about and go through all its related pages, making sure they're up to date. Pick a random item or ability and update its tooltip. Do something. Shrivelup (talk) 12:46, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

I am very excited to aid Wowpedia. I'm off WoW at the moment but I keep an eye for Beta now, so I will try to update everything I will be able to do so. Matix22 (talk) 12:53, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Is there is a quick way to mark a page out of date? I am sure I have seen a box at the top of pages before saying this needs updating or something. Maybe if someone said how we did that then it would be easy to mark pages as out of date (if you noticed and didn't have time to update them) and also would make it ovious for anyone coming to that page that had info that wasn't on there they needed to update it? Zasurus (talk) 17:24, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
{{ood}} --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 17:25, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
About the class abilities, I am replacing the old tables with rank information with new information. Each class ability will have a level table with data for each level 1 - 85. The first column group (each column group consists of a level column and following column with other information such as mana costs, damage, healing, DoT, HoT, etc.) has information for level 1 - 20. The next group for level 21-40. The next for 41-60. The next for 61-80. The last group has information for level 81-85. For filling the table I have created 10 chars of different classes and I will level each char up from 1 to 10. The data I see I will put in the table. It is a wee lot of work but I hope that others with higher level chars will fill in the data which is not available at me, because I have not those chars. Hans Kamp (talk) 17:42, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Not sure if related, but did all the original admins move here?
I'm wondering, since that would mean the wikia version has no moderators... and could be easily raped by shameless internet trolls.
Just saying. Not like I care or want to troll them myself, but just saying :P.--Lon-ami (talk) 19:02, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Basically yes. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 19:04, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Sweet. Very sweet.
Without any competent person at charge, it's a matter of time for wow.wikia to die.
I'll have fun seeing how new people fill everything with fanfic stuff. I already imagine the "relatives" section for Thrall: Jaina (wife), <enter 40 character names> (sons/fathers/clone/deity)
So sweet xDDD.--Lon-ami (talk) 19:21, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
When Cata launches, I plan to rewrite all classic zone pages and update them to reflect the changes, as well as several tweaks to BC/LK ones. The question is: will we keep the original information somewhere? Section maybe? Matix (talk) 19:16, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
I think we should. A section "Pre-cataclym" sounds like a good approach to this. MaienM (talk) 20:40, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
This already has been planned. See Help:Updating for Cataclysm.--SWM2448 21:00, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

I will sometimes be checking out the old wiki. If an major edit is applied on an important article there, I will be copy-pasting them here.Overlord Divine (talk) 19:38, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

Don't think it will be hard to distinguish the two... we'll have tooltips, while wowwiki's have been broken. SnakeSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3For Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 01:50, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

Wherez my contributions?

First of all, I'm really happy things went well (Akama hopes we haven't changed one evil master for another), but everything seems just fine. I'm pretty happy. I was accustomed to the old skin, and to see the even older one active again... well, I guess I just need to accustom once again. After all, this one is way better.

But here's my real deal: I'm missing some contributions. Just see it by yourselves:

There aren't many, but they're there. If they can be recovered somehow, then fine. I guess I'm not the only one to have this problem with the latest contributions.

That's all, hope it's fixed soon. And yeah, the new logo is AWESOME.--Lon-ami (talk) 17:30, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

My bad, I just noticed some of them were done by a bot. Still, the most recent ones are still missing.--Lon-ami (talk) 17:31, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
To be exact, now that I have checked deeply, the missing editions are those of October 20 and 21. No problem on reuploading them in case it's needed.--Lon-ami (talk) 17:37, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
The botting stopped on the 18th. You'll have to redo any edits since. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 17:38, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Ok, no problem.
Also, what about the edit-count? is that going to be fixed or something?--Lon-ami (talk) 17:49, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
It's not a priority, but we're aware of it. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 17:50, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Well, thanks a lot for the help. Now I've editions to do, that I hold because of the move :P. Good luck with the new host ;).--Lon-ami (talk) 18:02, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Most of the edits imported by the bot are now attributed to the editors that made them, and should show up in your contributions list. There are two notable exceptions: users whose names were changed and users whose accounts did not get copied over to Wowpedia. -- foxlit (talk) 01:00, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

Additions

I noticed, that when you edit pages, there isn't any "add picture"-icon next to the other icons above the white text box. Is this something you'll be adding soon? - Aedror42 (talk) 19:24, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

It's the one between the "A" and the bugle. You'll need to upload the file yourself by clicking on the redlink. --Sky (talk) 20:37, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Okay thanks then. - Aedror42 (talk) 20:53, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
