- For the mob in Silverpine Forest, see Worg (mob).
Worgs are cunning predators closely related to wolves, but larger and with greater intelligence. They grow 10 feet long and weigh over 1000 pounds. Like normal wolves, their pelts range in color from pitch black to gray, brown, and even snowy white. Worgs live for the hunt, both for the sheer joy of it and because their larger bodies require large amounts of meat. Worgs can commonly be found in forests such as Silverpine Forest. Some humanoid races value worgs as steeds due to their increased intellect, but a worg's foul disposition turns away many trainers. Instinctive pack hunters, worgs prefer to attack in tandem. They enjoy surrounding an opponent, tripping him up, and then attacking relentlessly as he tries to rise. A badly wounded worg usually flees.Template:Cite
Orcs use a larger variety of worgs as their mount, as can other horde races that are exalted with Orgrimmar (faction). The Scarshield Legion in Blackrock Spire utilizes worgs as powerful attack dogs, and also possess a pair of enormous worgs, Gizrul and Halycon. Most likely they also utilize them as mounts like other orcs. A worg pet can be acquired via a certain quest, that has you travel into Blackrock Spire and take one of Halycon's pups.
Wrath of the Lich King
A new type of worg has been seen in Northrend, a more fierce looking predator. They are also known as saber worgs. These can mostly be found in Howling Fjord, Grizzly Hills, Borean Tundra, and the Storm Peaks.

Inspiration
The Wargs, or Wild Wolves, are a race of fictional wolf creatures in J. R. R. Tolkien's books about Middle-earth. They are usually in league with the Orcs, whom they permit to ride on their backs into battle. (More generally, "warg" is also an Old English word for "large wolf".) In the movie, Orcs can be seen riding them into battle, but they are alot larger and seemingly more fierce than these worgs.
