WMVs are widely used by machinimists with the "blue- (or green-)screen-effect", because there are less limits there than in the real game.
Unfortunately, the program currently is not usable due to patch 3.0.2. although an unofficial version was released for this patch, the next patch, 3.0.3, rendered the unofficial version useless as well. The programs creators are currently trying to develop the program for Wrath of the Lich King, but so far no new versions have appeared.

Similar to the model viewer, this program allows the user to view detailed regions within the game files.
Texture files pulled out from WMV are not allowed on the wiki. In-game screenshots are preferred, but if you cannot find one it is okay to upload from WMV, as long as the model can be found in-game. If you are going to upload a picture to the wiki, we recommend it to be saved as a PNG (that way it will be transparent, thus allowing it to be used without a frame). The images shown below are bad examples as these have the default blue background.<br/>

It is also recommended that you use a image editing program to crop it to reduce space around the model. If you need a editing program, we recommend the GIMP. For further image guidelines, read WW:IMG.

WoW Model Viewer is a program that allows users to see all the models for characters, armor, weapons, monsters, and spell graphics in the game files. Additionally, it enables people to take screenshots, add backgrounds, and add weapons/armor to a character of one's choice.

The latest official version (v0.5.08) by the original author John Steele (aka Darjk) and chuanhsing was released on March 15th, 2010. With this version, all files up to Patch 3.3.3 can be viewed.

WMVs are widely used by machinimists with the "blue- (or green-)screen-effect", because there are less limits there than in the real game.
