WoW Insider, formerly known as WoW.com, was a popular blog and news site about World of Warcraft that occasionally referenced Wowpedia.[1] The site was launched on November 23, 2005 with just a small team of bloggers but grew to be one of the leading WoW-related websites. Besides covering WoW news, the site featured a number of columns on various topics such as character classes, add-ons, and Warcraft lore. Each column generally has one blogger with the exception of the class columns, which may have different bloggers for each specialization the class offers.

In 2010, WoW.com changed its domain name to wow.joystiq.com and reclaimed the WoW Insider name.

On March 1, 2014, Wow Insider's budget was reduced by Joystiq's parent company, AOL.[2] This resulted in the ending of a number of columns, such as class columns, Drama Mamas, and Officers' Quarters. A number of staff were let go as well.

On January 26, 2015, the tech news website <re/code> reported from sources that AOL was "likely to shutter its primary video game site Joystiq, part of an extensive house-cleaning of its underperforming content properties that is taking place over the next weeks."[3] Joystiq later reported on the rumor the next day.[4]

On January 30, 2015, the closure of Joystiq was officially confirmed.[5] WoW Insider announced that it would be ceasing operations as of February 3, 2015,[6] relocating to Blizzard Watch.

Some time later the http://wow.joystiq.com/ URL was changed to redirect to http://www.engadget.com/gaming/; while most articles stay the same, the categories didn't.
