: NOOB: You can do exactly what you asked for and more with [http://ui.worldofwar.net/ui.php?id=3174 LazyWarrior]. It's basically a programmable button masher addon, which you program using a [http://ithilyn.com/pmwiki/index.php/LazyWarriorLS/LazyWarriorLS high level language] I made up. There are many submitted examples and it's easy to get started, no Lua programming required--we did that for you :-). I wrote LazyRogue about a year ago and some very talented folks have since ported it to all classes. --Ithilyn

Emerald Dragons change on 1.11

According to the notes of the change:

•Emeriss, Lethon, Taerar, Ysondre - Some of their abilities will be less predictable than before

Me and my guild <Warped> from Runetotem server noticed that when we started to kill these dragons on 1.11... On the 1.10 their abilities was ocurring exactly at 75%, 50% and 25%.

Now we cant predic anymore, it can happen on:

  • 80 - 70% (First one)
  • 55% ~ 45% (Second one)
  • 30% ~ 20% (Third one)

With that happening, the strategies need to be changed...

I.E. on dragon Lethon, now you need to...

"Attack Lethon down to 83%. Have all melee DPS run as far back as possible, and all casters at max range. Kill as many shades as possible that spawn. Make sure Mortal Strike is on Lethon. Do the same at 58, 33%."

--Shoza 08:42, 11 July 2006 (EDT)

Cool! Feel free to update any strategies mentioned on their respective pages! =)   (And don't worry about your english, it's perfectly fine) --Mikk 12:01, 11 July 2006 (EDT)
  • My personal experiences and reports from allied raiders say that it's usually their old transition +-5%. So 75+-5% being 70% to 80%, and so on for each transition. -Mooklepticon 01:28, 15 July 2006 (EDT)
  • Interesting note: just after the patch, my raiding group killed one of the greenies, and he only transitioned once in the entire encounter - late, at about 50 percent or so. --Szili 15:25, 5 September 2006 (EDT)

API Boilerplate Styling

was inspired by some of the other templates found on this wiki, being somewhat dissastisfied with the current API templates created Boilerplate:API Documentation. Discuss Mind 22:41, 19 July 2006 (EDT)

I see what you mean about boring, but imo your template is too busy; it takes focus away from the actual info. (Plus I think it might be a bit too much work for joe editor). I'm thinking that perhaps we can liven up the pages just by adding some more graphics to the {{wowapi}} template. I have an example that'll work on User:Mikk/Dev that seems quite a bit more lively than what the pages look like now. --Mikk 12:58, 20 July 2006 (EDT)
Obtw it looks kind of busted in IE6. All other browsers do the right thing as per usual. The cogwheel is meant to be integrated in the vertical bar to the left. I'll see if I can think of some other way to do it. --Mikk 13:33, 20 July 2006 (EDT)
Whoot, it even looks okay in other skins. --Mikk 14:09, 20 July 2006 (EDT)
After some jumping through narrow and twisted hoops, it now displays OK in IE6 also. --Mikk 06:34, 1 August 2006 (EDT)

NOOB hoping to find help.

Bear with me, I have no idea if what I am about to ask is achievable or if I am even in the right place to ask it or if help is available on it.

I have been using customized form sets to play my character in Wow. I would like to make a more elaborate form that would allow the form to handle almost any situation. I used to be a programmer so I do know coding. The logic of it and all. But I am not sure this language will allow me to do what I want to do. So you guys that know if you could please tell me, I would be eternally grateful.

Here is what I want to do. I have a Warrior on a PVP server. I want to create a form that will be able to use its logic to decide the correct action at the correct time. Hit with the right attack, stop a caster from casting a spell, use a slowing attack or a stun attack if the criteria and situation is correct. A little more in depth then the ones I have seen.

What I want it to do is when I approach a toon is this: 1) Determine if its an NPC or Player (Hostile or Friendly) 2) Determine its class 3) Determine the proper course of action depending on the reaction of the NPC or player. 4) Continue the engagement until the foe is dead. 5) Return to a default stance.

Example: I approach a toon. The logic decides its an NPC, Hostile then it decides its a Mage. It charges in Battle stance, then changes to berserk stance because my toon is using a 2 handed weapon and beserk is the only stance that has a 2 handed attack that will disrupt a spell. I attack, he defends, I attack, he attempts to cast a spell, I counter by disrupting the spell and then I attack again, etc. Until one of us is dead. This type of scenerio would be played out depending on which class the logic ID's the foe as. It would also be able to switch stances during combat depending on the best attack under the current variables and proceed with the engagement switching stances and attacks to defend against what the enemy is doing.

This form would do this for each type of class that I would face. It would also have different combinations of attacks and defenses depending on if I was PVPing or in a raid or instance. Certain things would or would not be done.

Does this make sense to anyone? Can someone show me how to get started and how to generate the logic and code to piece this together? I would help in any way I could.

Hopefully there is a kind soul out there that will come to my help.

Thanks.

All this is definitely doable. There's APIs for everything you describe. The only gotcha is that you can't make your character do something without clicking a mouse button or hitting the keyboard. So what you want is a "smart button" that you can just keep mashing that does different things all the time. Not a problem. Just make the button a macro that calls a Lua function that does different things depending on what's going on. Seriously boring to use but sounds like a fun programming project :-P
Check out LuaSlinger, and especially its LazyRogue snippet. There's plenty more in the LuaSlinger Code Vault. When you're done toying around with scripts in-game, you can convert stuff to a real addon fairly easily. UI FAQ/AddOn Author Resources should get you started.
--Mikk 04:17, 3 August 2006 (EDT)

>I do not know how to use API's to try and accomplish this project. I am not that type of programmer. I have seen slight samples but nothing showing what I want to do. And I have never used LUA's or a LUA editor. Could you perhaps show me a little of what you mean in regards to my project? That would help get me started. Then if it is above me, I would not mind compensating someone for writing this code for me to my specifications. Right now I do not know how to start. <

I've had a similar problem with not knowing where to start. I have looked a bit into lua files for mods, and I find myself lost. Have I missed a general syntax article on Lua? If we don't have one, I'd like to see someone make it. A page that tells how to comment out lines might be helpful, at least, because someone told me to comment out a line, and while I assumed correctly that you just put two hyphens at the beginning of the line, it's not obvious. And while the API pages are generally pretty good, or at least to the point of being useful, an article that covers the most generic aspects of Lua might be nice. Schmidt 09:01, 15 August 2006 (EDT)

WoWWiki on Wikipedia

Possibly a section on the WoW page of wikipedia would serve, but you diminish WoWWiki by saying a single link would suffice. We might as well delete Wikipedia for similar reasons (at least to WoW players). --Fandyllic 5:36 AM PDT 12 Aug 2006
I apologize if that's how I came across. I'm just refering to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:WEB which, from its summary, says:
There is also consensus amongst many Wikipedia editors that Wikipedia is not a web directory, in that it is not a site that specializes in linking to other web sites and categorizing those links. Explicitly and by formal policy, Wikipedia is not a mirror or a repository of links, images, or media files. Articles which merely include an external link and a brief description of its contents will also be either cleaned up to adhere to the neutral point of view or deleted.
In all fairness, that's exactly what the WoWWiki article on wikipedia is right now; it's even marked a stub. The policy does however go on to say:
Websites or content which fail these guidelines but are linked to a topic or subject which does merit inclusion may be redirected to that topic or subject rather than be listed for deletion.
... which seems fair to me. --Mikk 09:19, 12 August 2006 (EDT)

It was keept. But now other problems arise. I know Wikipedia is somewhat of a competitor to WoWWiki, but any help with warcraft on WP would be much appreciated, as they lack sources and are generally written as essays or strategy guids, which is not allowed per WP policy. Check out Warcraft Wikipedia project for more information. Thank you. Elüna 05:18, 17 August 2006 (EDT)

I have a better idea. Send em all here; we have no such policy :-P   --Mikk 07:06, 17 August 2006 (EDT)

Pit Lord Stats in Bio Pages

The current pages for pit lords that give their Warcraft III stats have comparisons like this: (same a regular Pit Lord of his type there are two types). I think this is a bit awkward, and I am thinking of replacing them with something that tells which type of pit lord they are. For example: (same as a regular Type 1 Pit Lord). A type 1 is the "original", generally non-playable pit lord seen in Reign of Chaos, and Type 2 is the kind introduced in The Frozen Throne that could be hired. A little not just below the heading would be a line saying "<Name> is a Type 1/Type 2 Pit Lord" If anyone has suggestions on doing this differently, or different names for the types, let me know. --AAA 21:17, 14 August 2006 (EDT)

Sounds like a good idea. Name them "non-playable Reign of Chaos pit lord" and "playable Frozen Throne pit lord" perhaps? Bit long but it sure explains what they are? --Mikk 03:14, 15 August 2006 (EDT)
I've changed it now, and named the types "Reign of Chaos Pit Lord" and "Frozen Throne Pit Lord" for clarity. --AAA 18:25, 15 August 2006 (EDT)

Started clearing location categorization up

Currently, locations are categorized under their World, Continent and Zone. This is not making sense to me, and is contrary to category policy.

I've started removing the continent and world categorization from all sub zones, towns, areas, etc.. I'm leaving the continent categorization (e.g. Category:Eastern Kingdoms) on the main article of zones (e.g. Arathi Highlands).

I'll be tottering along the list approximately whenever I'm bored out of my skull :-P   I've cleared out A and B so far. Anyone else feel like some mindless work, feel free to help out :-)   Keep an eye out for pages that have managed to end up in World/Continent categories but not in their Zone categories; there's been a few so far. --Mikk 08:07, 18 August 2006 (EDT)

External image leeching and Thottbot

Please forgive my ignorance, but what is the WoWWiki policy regarding outside image linking (image leeching)? I've seen an alarming number of in-line images linking directly to thottbot.com, especially in the talent pages. Is there an agreement between these two entities that says this is ok?

Nashira 14:31, 20 August 2006 (EDT)

Doubtful. Yes, the images should really be uploaded onto the wiki, rather than being linked. What type of images are we talking about exactly? Spell icons and suchlike already have copies uploaded here, so those should be used. Afaik, there's no agreement, but why should there need to be? If Thott wishes to it to be known that he doesn't like it, that is his choice :) I can ask him, but I shan't without good reason - he's a busy man... -- Kirkburn 15:01, 20 August 2006 (EDT)

Take your pick of the warrior talents and you'll probably see an outside image link, for example: Ability dualwield [Dual Wield Specialization]

Perhaps he is so busy that he doesn't tail his logs to check for image leeching on this scale? Permission shouldn't be inferred from a lack of action on his part.

I will start moving icons to local copies.

Nashira 15:20, 20 August 2006 (EDT)

Cool. Not sure we actually need thott's permission anyway, as the images aren't his, and by uploading them onto the internet they can be used by anyone. Having said that, I understand the leeching issue, and we shouldn't be relying on other sites when the images are already on the wowwiki server - some people are just too lazy to look when they create new articles ;) -- Kirkburn 11:11, 21 August 2006 (EDT)

Vandalism?!

I recently got interested in helping the WoWWiki community by updating some items on the Wanted and stubs page. I made a very nice Inv misc flower 04 [Lei of the Lifegiver] page, but as I was editing it to make it look nice, someone vandalized it. Whats going on???

Sorry about that. Rarely the wiki attracts idiots who go out of their way to harm other users - please don't be put off, it occurs only rarely. Just think of the type of person who would want to do it, and then imagine them plus a blender :) -- Kirkburn 13:00, 25 August 2006 (EDT)
Lol glad to see it restored. Apparently whoever that was didn't like me very much -.- "(Move log); 16:55 . . FandyIlic (Talk) (User:Minimatrix moved to User:Loeijde)" Dont even know who Loeijde is =P
Some idiot impersonated the Admin: Fandyllic but spelled their name FandyIlic. --Dracomage 13:11, 25 August 2006 (EDT)
User:BoozyeuIogist has vandalized several pages and did a vandal page move on a page I just created. What is the appropriate policy to report these actions? --Bendyr 12:38, 28 August 2006 (EDT)
Please note that is not the same as User:Boozyeulogist- note the use of the capital "i" in place of the "L". --Bendyr 12:42, 28 August 2006 (EDT)
You simply report these bufoons on the vandals list and a friendly neighborhood admin will trail behind and block and clean.   -- Mikk (T) 19:05, 28 August 2006 (EDT)

Man what's going on? Random vandalism is to be expected.... But it seems like WoWWiki has been under fire for like the last 5 days or so. Usually a vandal maybe lasts around a couple hours... But this is like... MASS VANDALISM FTW KTHXBAI! Pzychotix 18:11, 28 August 2006 (EDT)

The situation has been dealt with for now. One of the vandalusers ranted on and on about the way the wiki was run, but as we have no way to interrogate suspects, the culprit remains at large at whatever computer he's using. The Admins are disucussing our next course of action. --Ragestorm 18:23, 28 August 2006 (EDT)
The admins are also getting more numerous: Special:Listadmins   -- Mikk (T) 19:03, 28 August 2006 (EDT)

Guild Content Deleted

I don't know why, but this guy just erased the content from my guild at this link: http://www.wowwiki.com/Lunch_Time. I'm talking about: Sweatshopkids

Who is this guy? Can I find other actions that he did at wowwiki? Please, some admin could recover my page as it was before he erase? --Eyepunch 14:37, 25 August 2006 (EDT)

Done :) -- Kirkburn 14:41, 25 August 2006 (EDT)
LOL so fast. Ty. But, man I really want to know who did that. Can you give me more info? --Eyepunch 14:43, 25 August 2006 (EDT)
Just a random edit it seems - unless he does other stuff that's ban-worthy, I won't add him to the list just yet. Check Special:Contributions/Sweatshopkids -- Kirkburn 14:48, 25 August 2006 (EDT)
Except now he did it again.... --Mikk 18:00, 26 August 2006 (EDT)
Indeed. I've asked him to explain himself, but I have a feeling he must be someone with a grudge against your guild (which in no way excuses the behaviour) -- Kirkburn 18:22, 26 August 2006 (EDT)

WoWWiki Server Time vs Local Time

Just registered at 10:30 AM local time... I went to set the local time in my preferences and it said the server time was 12:14. What time zone is the server and is its time accurate? Thanks. Rihlsul 08:17, 28 August 2006 (EDT)

I think there may be a problem with how WoWWiki's time relates to the current server time. The server time also appears to be incorrect.
  • Help:Preferences "Time diff. This is the number of hours to be added or subtracted from UTC to find your time zone." - in practice, the time to be entered is the time difference from server time, not UTC. Server appears to be currently off UTC by -2:17. I believe the server's own time needs to be fixed, and then the wiki needs to know what its own timezone offset is from UTC. --Ziana 14:08, 28 August 2006 (EDT)
Now appears correct, thanks! --Ziana 19:56, 12 September 2006 (EDT)

Upcoming Upgrade and Downtime

I'll be taking the wiki down for a few hours (well, hopefully a few hours; worst case most of the day) on Monday, Sep 4, for a bunch of housekeeping and upgrades. I'll have a status page up during that time with the latest ETA and progress. Among other things, this will bring us up to the latest MediaWiki version, and the wiki server will get a new CPU. -- Rustak 14:24, 2 September 2006 (EDT)

Great to hear :) Let's hope it goes well! -- Kirkburn (talk) 16:49, 2 September 2006 (EDT)
Whoot! Keep it offline as long as you need. That's great news =)   --Mikk (T) 19:12, 2 September 2006 (EDT)

Hey IB

this is Jubie (from our old EQ guild) looking to get into WOW and wondering what up with IB over here

Heya. I wonder if you've got the right page now. This is the main discussion page for things concerning the WoW Wiki. Did you mean to put this on some specific user's talk page, or on the talk page of one of the guilds with pages here?   --Mikk (T) 14:30, 6 September 2006 (EDT)
