This is an annotated list of featured boilerplates. See Category:Boilerplates for a complete, non-annotated list. See WoWWiki:How to edit API pages for development related boilerplates.

While "boilerplates" are arguably "templates", we like to differentiate them somewhat. "Templates" are mostly small snippets that can be used inside pages (see WoWWiki:Templates). "Boilerplates" are full-page models that can be used when creating new pages.

  • To use a boilerplate, either edit a boilerplate page and copy & paste its contents to a new page, OR start a new page and pull the boilerplate in with {{subst::boilerplate name}} (i.e. {{subst::Boilerplate:Item}}), save, and then re-edit the page.

Spell lists

  • Boilerplate:Spell list

Just like it says on the tin! A Boilerplate for a spell list for those classes that use em. Mage Spells and Warlock Spells are two examples, but the Warlocks is probably a better standard. (Mage spells was made before Boilerplates, so cut the mages some slack.)

-- Wait... stop cutting them slack. The mage spells are now up to code, so to speak, though there's a lot of extra info on the Mage Spells page than there needs to be. Each individual mage spell, however, is pristine and beautiful and is the sort of thing that causes rainclouds to part and grown men to weep with joy. Errr... Mage Spells and Shaman Spells can be considered two examples of what we should shoot for. Props out to all the contributors to these pages. --RoJ 14:30, 2 May 2005 (EDT)

I'm odd. I changed the Druid Spells page to look like the Shaman Spells page, but the actual spell pages look like the Single Spell Boilerplate. Druid spells still need a lot of work, though, as most of the mid-higher level spells have not been entered in. I've also noticed that you can only use a template so many times on a page before it stops working, {{sectionstub}} for instance.

Spells and abilities articles

  • Boilerplate:Ability

A boilerplate for spell and ability articles, such as Spell arcane blink [Blink], as well as talented abilities, such as Spell fire fireball02 [Pyroblast] and Ability warrior savageblow [Mortal Strike].

Abilities article

  • Boilerplate:Ability list

For pages such as the Warrior Abilities. Again, I think we've just got the Warrior one for now, so maybe we can base a Boilerplate on that (or make a Boilerplate and adapt the existing page :))

Talents template

  • Boilerplate:Talents
  • Boilerplate:Talent Tree

Boilerplate: Starting Guides for Classes

  • Boilerplate:Starting a class

We've got a number of pages giving a starting guide for levels 1-10 of certain classes. Examples are Starting a Warlock, Starting a Mage, Starting a Warrior, Starting a Rogue If someone can pull together the good features from these to make a Boilerplate it'd be great!

Quest article

  • Boilerplate:Quest

Quests are constantly being added and updated. Many quest pages are currently using an incorrect format or an old version of the boilerplate. The thing that sets WoWWiki quest pages apart from those on thottbot and other similar sites is the "details" section, which provides a guide for how to complete the quest. Examples of quests with this boilerplate are: Quest:Grimtotem Spying, Quest:A Bump in the Road.

Item article

  • Boilerplate:Item

This boilerplate mimics the way Thottbot and Allakhazam display objects. I've included many notes in the source code so look in there for help when creating a new item. This can be used for almost any type of item, like armor, weapons, trade goods, vendor trash, and anything else. - ClydeJr 14:53, 26 April 2006 (EDT)

Instance guide

  • Boilerplate:Instance Guide

For creating and mainting walkthrough guides for instances together with encounter tactics and quests lists.

Mob

  • Boilerplate:Mob

For creating a page for a mob, specifically designed for creeps that can be attack and not NPCs that a player can interact with.
