Place the Charged Soothing Totem at the top of the reef near the Blazing Strand and protect it until the ritual is complete.

  +
Description
−
Divine Hymn is a priest ability learned at level 78 for 20. Like the Holy talent ability Circle of Healing it 'smart-heals' by selecting the 3 party or raid members within 40 yards with the lowest health, and channeling a very substantial amount of healing to them over 8 seconds (1 tick every 2 seconds). In addition, it grants a 10% increased healing buff to those targets for 8 seconds.

  +
Their fiery spirits are contained in the totem now. Take it to the top of the jagged reef near the blazing strand and set it on the ground.

  +
The totem's soothing energies will slowly wash over the elementals until their fury simmers down to calm.
Notes
  +
You must protect the totem, for fire does not react favorably to the ritual of soothing.
−
* Divine Hymn offers the highest mana efficiency of any priest ability in the game except Lightwell, with twice the HPM of Penance and more than three times that of Greater Heal.

−
* The maximum 12 heals are easily achieved with 3 targets, and once they have been granted, the priest can break the channel early without loss. Haste will cause the heals to be granted more quickly, and so allow the priest to break the channel sooner.

−
* Haste will make the spell tick faster, increasing the rate at which the healing occurs, but unlike with other HoTs (such as Renew), once the spell's maximum 12 heals have been granted, will not add ticks or generate further healing. However, this is currently not the case: see Known Bugs, below.

−
* By increasing the speed at which ticks occur, when cast on less than 3 targets, Haste will still cause the amount of healing that those targets receive to be increased.

−
* This ability can easily turn any wipe around, although its 8 minute cooldown means it may be saved as an 'emergency' heal.

−
* Divine Hymn will proc the Holy Mastery Echo of Light, and can crit, procing Divine Aegis.

−
* The 3 lowest health targets are selected each tick, meaning that when more than 3 targets are equally in need of healing, Divine Hymn's effect will be spread fairly evenly around the group - provided the targets are within 40 yards of the priest.

−
* Priests now have 100% protection from pushback while channeling Divine Hymn. This means that priests no longer have to worry about damaging attacks foreshortening the spell and wasting its effect. Effects such as stuns and interrupts will of course still stop the spell.

−
* For Holy Priests: Holy priests will get the most throughput out of Divine Hymn, as they generally have the highest spell power of any type of priest.

−
* For Discipline Priests: If paired with a Power Infusion or the Borrowed Time talent this spell will apply its healing much more frequently, ensuring that the maximum number of heals allowed is reached and permitting the priest to break the channel early without losing healing.

−
* For Shadow Priests: Particularly useful in PvP, this is one of the few ways a Shadow Priest can effectively heal themselves and their group. In raids, a shadow priest's Divine Hymn would be unexpected and welcome help for overburdened healers at the end of a particularly difficult encounter.

As a channeled spell, Divine Hymn is treated as a Heal over time, allowing haste to accelerate the rate at which its ticks occur. With sufficient haste, extra ticks are added to a HoT, improving not only its HPS but also its mana efficiency and total amount healed. Divine Hymn should be an exception to this, as its tooltip specifically states a maximum of 12 heals. However as of Patch 4.1.0, Divine Hymn responds normally to haste, with sufficient amounts granting extra ticks and so an increased total amount of healing. By using haste-granting trinkets, racials and spells (such as Power Infusion) before casting Divine Hymn, the priest can dramatically increase the number of ticks and so total healing generated by the spell, particularly useful when used as an emergency heal. Additionally, because Divine Hymn's targets are selected each tick, any extra healing generated will not be wasted as overheals on targets already at full health.
