Looks like bags are currently not showing correctly in the infoboxes: Merchant's Satchel. Could you poke it with a stick? Raylan13@Wikia (talk) 23:22, July 8, 2013 (UTC)

Hey Fandyllic, I'm just wondering how you do citations on subjects where this isn't really a clear source. For example, how I wrote one of the most called for expansions is the return of the Burning Legion. I've seen this in many places, especially WoW Forums. So how do I cite this? Thanks. Tankingmage (talk) 10:21, July 31, 2013 (UTC)

You can cite forums. Just give a link to a long thread with several mentions. Sources don't always have to be super clear, but claims with no sources are generally bad. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 31 Jul 2013 5:38 AM Pacific

Cataclysm update

Hey Fandyllic, should we remove the Cataclysm/update notice for some articles, for example, the Blasted Lands is pretty complete Cataclysm wise. Tankingmage (talk) 01:48, August 7, 2013 (UTC)

Yes. Use your judgement. If you think there is some updates needed, just replace it with one of the stub templates. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 6 Aug 2013 7:50 PM Pacific

Editing rights

Tankingmage brought it up that anons aren't able to edit here. I double checked, and it seems it has been this way for a very long time; it seems counter-intuitive, though, if we're trying to attract new editors. I'd like to lift that if it's all right with you, as we should be able to handle any unwelcome activity between the four of us - plus, I can let VSTF know to keep an eye on things for a bit. Worst case scenario we can always just flip the switch back. Raylan13@Wikia (talk) 17:17, August 20, 2013 (UTC)

I'm okay with it if you and Tankingmage are willing to take the extra burden of handling anons. On the other wikis I've admin'd I can't say allowing anons is a great way to attract new editors. Most anons are users who are not motivated enough to register, so tend not to be good editors. I don't have great confidence in VSTF, but maybe we won't run into the problems they aren't good at helping with.
We should do a trial for like 3 months maybe and if we don't get alot of extra good editors, we can poll the community about turning it off. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 20 Aug 2013 10:06 AM Pacific
That sounds good to me. A short trial run should be sufficient to determine if it does more harm than good. I'll tweak it later today and let TM know. Raylan13@Wikia (talk) 18:25, August 20, 2013 (UTC)

Hi Fandyllic, it's been a while :)

I just wanted to check that you have seen the post on Central about Darwin and the introduction of w:c:community:Thread:562302 fluid layout. I wanted to check with you in particular, because it will affect WoWWiki slightly differently from other wikis. In your case, those on lower resolutions may see the content area reduce to a minimum of 700px (from the current static 880px). However those affected should be those who currently see a scrollbar on the current layout - they will be losing width in return for the gain of no side-scrolling issues. Those with higher resolutions will have a wider content area, up to 1270px. People on tablets will have a slightly different layout to maximize the article width.

Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks -- sannse @Wikia (help forum | blog) 17:48, August 30, 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the update. I will read about it. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 30 Aug 2013 3:46 PM Pacific

Map template

Hello there.

Just wanted to ask if I may copy and use Template:Map on another wiki?

IWantCoffee (talk) 15:24, September 4, 2013 (UTC)

Getting the Map template to work actually requires a series of templates and is pretty complicated. Ask Pecoes for help, as he is the expert. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 4 Sep 2013 7:36 AM Pacific

Anonymous Users

So far the change seems positive, sure there are quite a few trolls, but from my point of view it's better to rollback 5 vandalisms than create a whole new article, like some anons do. The spelling and grammar fix is nice too. I know you said anons are often people who aren't motivated enough to make an account, but I think once people see how simple it is to edit it will encourage them to make a wikia account. The new Visual editor should help too. These are just some thoughts Tankingmage (talk) 00:03, September 6, 2013 (UTC)

The impact of anons hasn't been too bad so far, but the positive contributions haven't been significantly positive either. The jury is still out, but it may tilt more toward the positive over time. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 6 Sep 2013 7:26 PM Pacific

XML properties vs XML attributes, and other stuff

So what I did to resolve this was an obvious punt for now, with two 'list pages' (XML attributes and XML properties), but is consistant and fucntional. I re-made XML properties (page and category) to list the complex element properties, and changed 'XML attributes' (page and category) to list the simple single value types, which are always written here in WoW as attribuites, rather than elements. Fun to talk about I know. The pages for now should have clear markings now to disambiguate, and none of the attributes have their own pages, but if did would typicaly link to the base element or type that defines them, for a in-depth definition or context, anyway. Hi Fandyllic,  I (Gregity) logged in yesterday and made a change to an old page - some minor updates.  When I tried to login today, it said my password is invalid and when I had it send me one I never got it.  I checked the spam - still no luck.  I made some more changes to the page today but because I couldn't sign in they were anony.  The page is AddOn_programming_tutorial/Introduction.  Can you give me a hand? —This unsigned comment is by (talkcontribs) 14:13, September 21, 2013‎. Your best bet is to use Special:Contact/account-issue to get Wikia to reset your account password. I don't have access to any of the account stuff. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 22 Sep 2013 8:48 AM Pacific
Also try to use the little login at the upper right, the popup shadow box one. Seems to work when the big full page one doesnt. Also if you look there are ton of anonymous edits now, like this started happening last week, and you arn't the only one. :) I think something is seriously wrong. When it burped, I couldnt login then tried the small login box. Celess (talk) 07:48, September 23, 2013 (UTC)

Main Page Revamp

Heya Winky I was wondering what you thought of this main page - the slider and/or the layout. I've been looking at our site for some time and thought we might benefit from an overhaul of the main page. I think the above wiki comes closest to what we might need.

I would be working on it, and it would take a couple of days at least to implement and troubleshoot. I think you're familiar with JoePlay; he'd be assisting, since he knows the creator and has done it before. Maintenance of the slider portion would then fall to me with subsequent expansions - unless you want to poke around to get a feel for it, of course.

Let me know what you think - I'm leaving a message on Macrophager's and Servian's pages, as well as Tankingmage (since he's up-and-coming). Raylan13@Wikia (talk) 19:37, October 3, 2013 (UTC)

Just a thought. The font to background contrast on that site is very low in a bad way, if you were implementing the colors and transparency with a background like that, and the black borders amplify the readability issues. Here it's consistant across the span of the page with a light border to match the text.  While we are at it, there is some JS here that absolutely kills long pages that could be addressed. Speed needs to go up to make google happy, and the users. Celess (talk) 19:46, October 3, 2013 (UTC)
I'd like to see a 0100WoW Icon 16x16 version first. Dragon Age only has two games and they are largely separate, not expansions. I like some of the elements of the Dragon Age main page, but it may not work with WoW. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 3 Oct 2013 1:26 PM Pacific
Don't worry about the color/font schemes, as those would be tweaked to reflect what currently exists here. The slider they've got is my main focus, but if there's other elements that might work well, those are actually very easy to incorporate. Due to how long it takes to set up, implement, and then troubleshoot, I could do a non-functional mock up to give an idea of how things would flow. Raylan13@Wikia (talk) 23:51, October 3, 2013 (UTC)
I didn't comment on the slider because I didn't even notice it! Now that I've used it, it is kind of cool, but we would have to to do a much better job of making the controls discoverable. A non-functional mockup would be great. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 7 Oct 2013 10:27 AM Pacific
Winky I'm hoping to get a rough drawn up this week, work load permitting. One thing I know we'll definitely add to our potential version is a "home" button that would take users back to the beginning of the slides. Another thing I have to consider is that the original dev is thinking of rewriting the code, but we could implement those changes down the line. Raylan13@Wikia (talk) 18:46, October 7, 2013 (UTC)
Got a rough going today, which you can find here. Be sure to read through the notes first Winky I set aside a section for discussing everything. Raylan13@Wikia (talk) 23:45, October 8, 2013 (UTC)

WoWWiki Revamp

Slightly related but I think needed for a while, one step closer to faster portals: vs Is on main portal now, updating the others. There are a few comments in the inner template. Celess (talk) 03:12, October 4, 2013 (UTC)

Good to see that someone who actually knows what they're doing is fixing some of the inefficient code I hacked together. I did a little work to make Portal:Main-lite look like current Portal:Main. Is there anything left to do before a switch? --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 7 Oct 2013 10:27 AM Pacific
Oops, had marked for delete... Your changes are now on Portal:Main/Dev, and are now integrated with the newer infrastructure. Yes the main page baked now. You can copy your changes over. Celess (talk) 20:14, October 7, 2013 (UTC)
A major reshuffle involving almost all the portal tempaltes has been done. You can see the current state here Portal_talk:World_of_Warcraft. If wasn't clear, the 'lite' news is gone, 'Main/News' is 'Community/News', and 'Main/User News' is 'Main/News', which is what they sort of were anyway, and with a lengthy cleanup of templates that can now go away. Celess (talk) 20:21, October 7, 2013 (UTC)
Just to let everyone know, I swapped two sections of the CSS, near the end. It should be fine. But just wanted to give heads up. Anything looks odd let me know. Most of this ongoing effort is for performance, and to assist maintainability while I'm going though all this already. :) Celess (talk) 18:41, October 16, 2013 (UTC)
There was a css comment issue been fixed that will clear up in next 10 mins. Can ignore. Celess (talk) 18:51, October 16, 2013 (UTC)
FYI for everyone... Should be somewhat of a boost in performance, mostly client side, as digging through CSS and JS now. Please be aware and look a little more critically than normal for anything amiss. I don't think there should be, but please let me know. :) Made it though the first pass more to follow. Celess (talk) 08:08, October 18, 2013 (UTC)

The Black Temple Transcript

Hi Fandyllic, I added the transcript for a few patches, and when I tried to do the Black Temple the video disappeared, I tried to change the video file itself, but that didn't work, it would be good if you could look at it and tell me what was wrong, thanks. Tankingmage (talk) 23:50, October 7, 2013 (UTC)

If you meant the video here: Patch_2.1.0#Patch_trailer
I fixed it. The wikicode had extraneous stuff in it that was preventing it from appearing. The whole Wikia support for videos via the File: mechanism is a little sketchy, but maybe it's not their fault. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 7 Oct 2013 5:41 PM Pacific

Quote of the week

-- ImportArticles sounds pretty generic for something that really only supports CSS and JS. Why use that name? Wouldn't something like ImportCSSorJS have been better? -- Fandyllic (talk · contr) 24 Aug 2012 6:53 AM Pacific (talk · contr) 24 Aug 2012 6:53 AM Pacific
right on... :) After a lot of looking, Wikia implementation is doing everything on the client, as opposed to just emitting in the head the first time. Wikipedia looks like it uses the same load.php mechanism, but gets a significant number of imports in head on the original doc. Can observe by turning off JS, like in safari dev menu, and hit Rush (Band), in honor of Canadian Thanksgiving, and look at the head. If you look at ours, all of JS is added to the doc by client side inline JS code, in the body at the bottom, which gives horrible locked page effects on load. Celess (talk) 07:42, October 16, 2013 (UTC)

Something happened on Wikia side

I think its them not us. Both 'chat' and 'wikia' sprite images not loading anymore. The oasis links look like: .skin-oasis .sprite { background-color: transparent; background-image: url(sprite.png); background-repeat: no-repeat; } But they are 404. If you remove the modifier __cb62369/ they load. There was some kind of disturbance in the force over an hour ago. Dun think i can fix this. The google cache version shows same code we have here [1]. None of our CSS touches the buttons. Celess (talk) 23:25, October 16, 2013 (UTC)

now is a 403. Celess (talk) 23:35, October 16, 2013 (UTC)

Change Status

FYI: There may be a bump for a min with the maps, though probably not. :) Celess (talk) 05:00, October 29, 2013 (UTC)

There was, I missed a word. Have to wait for next JS/CSS cycle. Should be good now. Celess (talk) 05:04, October 29, 2013 (UTC)

FYI: About to degradation test Tabber tabs, like what they look like when plugin fails or page not loaded yet. Will be about 20 min or so. Just won't be tabs, content will be there. Celess (talk) 22:30, October 29, 2013 (UTC)

Ok, so tabber now works correctly, like intended. :) If the JS doesn't load, it looks like regular wiki with tab background. Also the tab extents now properly include all tab content and the extra { {clr} } is no longer necessary, and a bunch of other stuff....  Authors can just make tabs and and will just 'do the right thing'. ;) Also, the TOC (due to the old pop-out) will no longer split headings or do other funky things as far as breaking the rest of the layout. I think this was an issue forever, and if a page that before could not tolerate the wrath of the TOC, maybe now could. The WM 'over three headings' default thing may be now OK again. Any questions concerns or otherwise, please let me know. Going to finish integrating the Tabber CSS now, the then back to the rest of wherever else I left off. Celess (talk) 17:08, October 30, 2013 (UTC)

Also, its important to note that the actual Tabber styling, is as I found it. However you are now afforded more opportunities to bend the CSS as you see fit, and directly here in our own CSS files. In an hour or so will be done integrating. Celess (talk) 17:13, October 30, 2013 (UTC)

Disabling TOC pop-out for a while for testing. :) Celess (talk) 23:58, October 30, 2013 (UTC)

Done using Death Knight as guinea pig :). Rounded corners were reconciled site wide as target of opportunity and because it was old and crusty, which mostly means that IE gets rounded corners and support was shifted to support modern browsers and sets of older phones target, i.e. Webkit: Safari 3-4, iOS 1-3.2, Android ≤1.6 and CSS3: Opera 10.5+, IE9+, Safari 5+, Chrome, FF4+, iOS 4+, Android 2.1+. :) Also sub-portal menu was rearranged to make Mists first to match the main portal and has consistant lightly roundy corners on tabs, though still needs love. Other stuff. Celess (talk) 05:11, October 31, 2013 (UTC)

--> After this last pass, should there should be another good sized bump in speed across all browsers. Check Portal:Main, which is a good litmus test. Client speed is good enough now that you should be able to easily tell which phase the load process is in 1) blank waiting as page un-cached on server and building, 2) client is loading body, 3) free to scroll / 'roam about the cabin'. Generally 1) cant be helped, except maybe 20% due to template and MW costs, and only by loweirng page size and template complexity. Is also a one time thing, for usually one single person, until next cache clear which may be months apart. The 2) is the most important, and is where someone can finally scroll down, as what's on top is almost never what they are after, this part should be much better. 3) the smoothness of the 'post-load' load should be far more reasonable. I'm not done, but the irritation level should be much lower and far more consummate with the 700K level and beyond. Celess (talk) 21:10, November 2, 2013 (UTC)

Is the Q&A on your page from the WoW Q + A About Almost Everything?, if so that's awesome. You could put it at BlizzCon 2013/WoW Q & A About Almost Everything and work on it there. It is done! Also, I think the closest thing we have to the WoW head development team is. It would be nice to have a 'normal page' for them I think. I'll add in some of the developers to the new page or the category page, depending on what we decide. It's pretty out of date. I also want to know, where do we have a page for running blizzard jokes. For example 'on the yacht!' Tankingmage (talk) 16:24, November 12, 2013 (UTC)

Iron Horde

So can you guys have a special Iron Horde icon like Neutral 15,since zones like Gorgrond and Nagrand Are whole zones dedicated to them and the Iron Horde. Thanks If you can do that. --IconSmall MalfurionIconSmall Tyrande TheKaldorei (contribstalk) 12 Nov 2013 4:10 PM UTC 16:10, November 12, 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, I've already been thinking about that and doing some research, but I haven't found a symbol yet from Blizzard for the Iron Horde. When I find it, I will definitely make an icon for them. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 12 Nov 2013 8:48 AM Pacific
I'm pretty sure Wowpedia has one,on their Iron Horde page. --IconSmall MalfurionIconSmall Tyrande TheKaldorei (contribstalk) 15 Nov 2013 4:47 PM UTC 16:47, November 15, 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, I saw theirs. I'm trying to find a better quality version, of that one is legit. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 18 Nov 2013 2:32 PM Pacific
