Wiki Issues Edit

Twitter and Tabber Edit

Twitter and Tabber should be good now, since before Christmas, using a completely different mechanism.

Slide Show Edit

Basically a rotating banner core, should be as robust as the Blizzard ones is moddleded after. Template:Slideshow. Free to build banners out of anything you can wiki, including content that moves or reacts on its own, not just images with links. Can have multiple 'slide shows' on a page. Will pause on hover, stop on click. Currently 'fixed pace' same as Blizz ones. Works with 'fluid wiki layout' as is. This is bare bones, let me know what you want added. I'm not done documenting it. Can see also MediaWiki:SlideShow/Test and Portal:Main/Promo for further examples. Celess (talk) 01:25, December 8, 2013 (UTC)
JQueryUI and some of the other supporting standard Wikia JavaScript are broken, due to version mismatch issues, causing problems for TOC and for using more advanced effects for slide show. What's been done is that we are now using 1.8.24 JQUI here for the parts we use, and disable loading JQUI dependencies from Wikia until theirs is updated.Celess (talk) 18:15, December 17, 2013 (UTC)
(message moved here for context -celess) Passed what you provided along and tech guys looked into it Winky. I've been informed a change will occur "soon". Not before the end of the year just due to all of the things on their plate, but sometime in January at the soonest. Thanks for pointing it out! Raylan13@fandom (talk)

Ambox and notices Edit

Has been showing the first bullet in many boxes as just a line with asterisk. This was fixed and several dozen were checked and along with a pretty diverse set of pages using them. Celess (talk) 02:31, December 8, 2013 (UTC)

Collapsible class on tables not working Edit

Here's an example: Scroll_of_Resurrection#E-mail_to_send_invitation.
Can you take a look? class="mw-collapsible" seems to work, but just class="collapsible" doesn't. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 19 Feb 2014 8:19 AM Pacific
Ill look. Collapsible is old paste-around code and is deprecated. mw-collapsible is the media wiki replacement. is a part of core and guaranteed to be maintained. Is best to just replace it. Celess (talk) 19:04, February 19, 2014 (UTC)
Entire site has now been converted... Celess (talk) 07:37, February 25, 2014 (UTC)

Map templates Edit

Heya, Celess Winky Our map and coordinate templates aren't functioning across the board. Seeing as how we've not made any changes on our end, I'm fairly positive this is something that got borked by Wikia over the past week. I've filed a bug report already, but if you had any insight I could pass along I'd be grateful. Raylan13@fandom (talk) 21:06, February 21, 2014 (UTC)
Ok i'll go look :) Worst case, we make our end more robust :) Celess (talk) 21:10, February 21, 2014 (UTC)
Well, I'll be darned. That was quick! I'll pass along what you said to the eng guys and close the ticket. Thanks! Raylan13@fandom (talk) 21:45, February 21, 2014 (UTC)

User Tags Edit

Started code updates and consolidation for user name decoration on the wiki, intended for a long time ago during earlier cleanup. Basically this involves cleanup and consolidation of existing code, like 'InactiveUsers' and 'UserRightsIcons' for efficiency on page load, and of course possibly adding Wikia or WoWWiki built enhancements as practicable. Most of the structure was in place already; just not had time. :)
Currently can use the new MediaWiki:UserTags‎‎/code.js, just the same as the old js file for now, for editing roles or names. :) The 'userRightsIcons.js' and 'inactiveUsers.js' scripts are now no longer being used. MediaWiki:UserTags‎‎ is the main page for the module, as noted on WoWWiki:Development. I'll post something later on if changes. Celess (talk) 01:26, March 20, 2014 (UTC)
(moved from section below to here for context) Thanks for MediaWiki:UserTags/code.js. I saw this on w:c:dev, but was too lazy to set it up. Winky --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 19 Mar 2014 5:00 PM Pacific

Rename Edit

Thanks for pointing that out - that's totally bad on my end. Was running an experiment to see what effect it might have. I'll change it back over.Raylan13@fandom (talk) 16:15, April 9, 2014 (UTC)

Search Edit

Tongueout Was actually expecting <!-- --> and didn't even notice. Might have to strike it out permanently, depending on testing. Raylan13@fandom (talk) 17:36, April 21, 2014 (UTC)

Probably because I'm going through 250+ emails at the moment, and the Wikia.css page pops up as being changed *again* right after I made the initial edit. Raylan13@fandom (talk) 17:47, April 21, 2014 (UTC)

battle pet ability tooltip Edit

Hi, sorry to bother you, I'm trying to get rid of my "foot-print" here on wowwiki.

I know you can't delete my profil, and that's ok, but could you please delete the following pages that I have created as part of my profile (I've deleted the contents already, but I'd like for the history to be gone as well)?

Thank you! Igiarmpr 14:26, June 1, 2014 (UTC)

New View in 3D button Edit

Hi! I heard you are doing templates or something. Anyways, decided to give a try making a bit better 3D VIEW button this site is using. It's the same size etc etc.

MMO VIllains Personality Quiz Suggestions?Edit

Hey there, Celess. Doug from Wikia's Community Development Team here! We're in the process of creating  "Which MMO Villian Are You?" personality quiz. I wanted to ask you if you had any character/boss suggestions from WoW that would be a good fit as one of the results. Any sort of major villain in the lore/game with a distinct or memorable personality would be a great fit.

Pitch me any character suggestions if you have any, I appreciate it! Have a good one : > TheBlueRogue @fandom •(profile)•(talk)•( 19:59, August 6, 2014 (UTC)

Icon hidden or left shift with elink template Edit

Hey, if you have time, can you see if you can figure out why {{elink}} isn't showing the icons? They appear to be shifted left off the window, but I can't figure out what's causing it. I suspect some CSS, but it could be inherited from Wikia stuff. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 7 Aug 2014 7:48 AM Pacific

Quest BoxEdit

I noticed that the Template:Infobox quest could use some tweaks...I made a test template at Template:Testing that allows users to add the maximum level a quest can be obtained, the difficulty levels for the quest (using the new template Template:Difficulty), and simplifies the ability to enter XP/Max Lvl coins/Max Lvl (based on expansion) rewards. Many of the old quests (pre-Cata) should be maxed out at lvl80, as that was the highest possible back then. The coin return on max lvl quests hasn't changed (the coins a player would get for a quest at 80 during Wrath is the same reward they get for that quest at 85 in Cata or at 90 in MoP), but for historical sake, a quest that was removed in the Shattering was never available to be completed at lvl 85. I didn't want to change the template used by all of the quest pages (which, btw, need a lot of TLC cos they're grossly outdated). My "Testing" template is backwards compatible with the current markup on quest pages, so its actually unnoticeable unless the new markup lines are utilized. Please let me know what you think. :)

By the way, I was one of the main Wiki authors and admins for the Chefville Wiki, until I got back into WoW and gave up on Facebook games. I'm now here to help get this Wiki updated. AlexSUCF (talk) 16:29, August 14, 2014 (UTC)

Also, quick addition, I just updated the "Testing" template so that if the tag "Obsolete" is added to the questbox then none of the categories except "Removed in XX" will be generated. It seems wrong to have quests that can't be obtained anymore listed in the lists of quests available at level x or for class y. AlexSUCF (talk) 17:11, August 14, 2014 (UTC)

Wikia project Edit

Hey Celess22. This is Brandon from Wikia. I sent you an email yesterday about a new Wikia project related to Robin Williams' WoW character. The subject line had "We Want YOU!" in it. Did you get that email? Are you interested in joining the project? Please let me know by the end of tomorrow (Thursday October 23rd) if you are interested. Warlords Portal update issueEdit

Hi there Celess22!

Fandyllic recommended I bring this to your attention. There appears to be an issue where the Warlords tab on the main portal is not updating when the WoD portal itself is updated. See our discussion here.
-Sitb (talk) 19:27, March 24, 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know. There were some new pages that were only visible through those tabs that were divergent from the normal externally accessible ones. I reconciled the functionality to use the normal Portal pages, to what I'm pretty sure was Raylan's intent for what he was ultimately trying to do. You should be able to edit things now and have changes propagate as you would expect. Thanks for the nicely detailed message. If you have any trouble p[lease feel free to let me know. Portable Infoboxes Edit

If you want to go ahead and see if this is possible on the infoboxes, feel free to go nuts. The tool automatically puts it in draft mode, so to test anything all you need to do is add /Draft into the template name on a page. I'd also suggest doing css on a MediaWiki page and then calling it via verbatim tags.

We're reaching out to a few of our top communities, hoping to get you on board with the migration to the new infobox markup. And we have tools to help!

Why we’re doing this

Simply put: Most current infobox structure translates very poorly to mobile experiences, and indeed any device that doesn't use desktop-style displays. On desktops and laptops, they often look amazing. The problem is that Wikia's traffic is trending mobile.

There is an important graph from our forum post about infoboxes a couple weeks back.

Mobile is the future. Not just for Wikia, but for the web as a whole. Take a look at the recent trends and future growth predictions for mobile traffic - it's staggering.

We partnered with the Wikia community to create this new markup to make sure that your hard work can be displayed on mobile devices (as well as any future technologies) easily and without any new coding conventions. It'll take some effort up front, to be sure, but we're here to help, and the work you put in now will pay for itself tenfold in the future.

Tools we’ve designed to ease the process

We've enabled two new features on your community. One is a tool for migrating the "old" infobox code to the new markup. It identifies templates on your wikia that look like infobox templates and places a box on the right rail of the template page. When you click the "Generate draft markup" button in this box, it opens a new tab containing a draft of your infobox using the new markup.

The second is a new feature on Special:Insights that will highlight which infoboxes on your wikia have not been migrated to the new infobox markup. It's fairly intuitive - you can click on the infobox title link itself to see the old markup, or simply click the "Convert!" button on the right, which performs the same action as the "Generate draft markup" button. Keep in mind the tool is not perfect, however, and false positives may be returned.

This is our help page for the new markup. If you'd like, I can help get things rolling by converting a template or two to draft form as an example, as well as watching this forum post for any questions that can be forwarded to the powers that be.

Consider switching to Message Walls and new-style forums Edit

As much as I have nostalgia for old-style talk pages and wiki-style forums, I suggest we switch over to Message Walls and new-style Forums. Since Wikia is working on a new more mobile-friendly feature called Discussions that we may want to switch to in the future, we should consider switching to something that will make the transitions less jarring. Your thoughts on switching to article Comments are also welcome.

Please leave your comments on my talk page. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 27 Sep 2015 9:40 AM Pacific

Portals Edit

The portal re-design was a Raylan13 effort, so you should ask about it from him. It was mostly just to simplify them. I think it was also to make them more mobile friendly. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 18 Oct 2015 9:54 AM Pacific

Testing template classification system at WoWWiki Edit

I was asked on the Community Council wiki if we could test an upcoming feature concerning template classification on WoWWiki. It looks like it should have no impact on presentation or almost anything else we do. Right now it seems more like a data gathering feature, so Wikia can get an idea of what frequency and types of templates are in use.

Ohmyn0 WikiaStaff says "It's super lightweight and unobtrusive."

I'm going to give them the go ahead sometime Wednesday (28-Oct-2015), unless there are major objections. It should be easy to turn off, regardless. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 27 Oct 2015 3:01 PM Pacific

Need help with Infobox and Template Edit

Hi Celess22, I'm the one building WoW Wiki site with Vietnamese. Can you help me with these infobox and template?

You can check out my problem here. I copied the source text from the same page on wowwiki, but it seems the infobox_character doesnt work well. I have no idea why this trim-code goes wrong.

This infobox - War on this page should face the same problem

Thank you for reading. I'm looking forward to hear your advice soon.

Best regards, (unsigned, is H2toan @ vietwow.wikia)

Hello. Thanks for your question, and always feel free to ask. Unfortunatly your site is missing the "var" parser functions that are used to make the infobox work correctly. You simply need to make a request to your normal Wikia staff member to have them added. This shoudl happen farily quickly. If afterwards there are any issues please feel free to ask myself a=or any oneof us for help agian. Celess22 (talk) 20:34, November 9, 2015 (UTC) (was cross-posted to his vietwow talk)
By "normal Wikia staff member", Celess22 means use Special:Contact/general from your wiki and the "var" parser functions are provided by Extension:Variables. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 10 Nov 2015 5:56 PM Pacific
