The majority of PvP mounts are rewards for PvPers who have collected at least 2,000 Honor. They move at the same speed as the level 40 Epic mounts, and similarly require a Riding Skill of 150 (Journeyman) in order to ride. The mounts are available for purchase in the Hall of Legends in Orgrimmar, or Champions' Hall in Stormwind.

There are five choices of reward mounts, representing the available races on each faction's side. The mount you can choose is not dependent on reputation with any city. For example, a human with sufficient Marks of Honor may choose to ride a [Reins of the Black War Tiger], regardless of reputation with Darnassus. Similarly a Forsaken who has sufficient Marks of Honor may ride a [Horn of the Black War Wolf] if so inclined, regardless of reputation with Orgrimmar. Patch 2.4 added elekks and hawkstriders (previously, there were no PvP mounts representing the draenei or the blood elves. Obtaining any of these mounts will give you the Money achievement Call in the Cavalry achievement.

Some players call the PvP mounts "welfare epics" or "welfare mounts," due to the fact that they are basically free (the marks of honor needed to purchase them are obtained simply by being in a battleground match, regardless of victory or defeat).

Other PvP mounts can be rewarded after turning in a number of tokens to a specific vendor. These tokens are usually rewarded for killing players in a specific area, or by controlling critical PvP zones.
