Only a true master of transmutation can create matter out of thin air.

Transmutation Mastery is a specialization of Alchemy. It allows an alchemist to sometimes create an additional item when transmuting materials.

Notes

Transmute5

A transmutation created 5 items at once

Studying the benefit over time is difficult, given the cooldown on most transmutations. However, it appears to be about a 20% increase in the total number of items created.

It has been reported to proc even on "Grey recipes", indicating that the difficulty level, and perhaps the item level, of the recipe has no influence on whether or not it occurs. This is significant for Transmute Mastery particularly in that those transmutes which no longer have a cooldown associated with them can still gain benefit from this ability.

Obtaining the Transmutation Master specialization

This specialization is directly obtained by completing the quest N [70] Master of Transmutation (2) from Zarevhi at the The Stormspire. You must be at least level 68 to be offered this quest.

An alchemist who has specialized in one of the other two specializations can switch to this one by talking to the quest giver of their current mastery and pay a 150g fee. The character then has to talk to the quest giver of the mastery desired and instantly get the new mastery. This is possible only after the character has completed the quest to gain one or another of the Mastery abilities.

Past changes

It should be noted that Patch 2.3 introduced an issue with Transmutation Mastery as reported at Transmute Mastery Issue | 2007-12-12 12:02:23 by Nethaera:

As of the 2.3 content patch, there's currently an issue with Transmutation Mastery by which the percentage chance to receive additional results from transmutations — aside from Transmute: Primal Might — is lower than the intended value.

This was fixed as of Bc icon Patch 2.3.2 (2008-01-08): "Fixed an issue with Transmute Mastery where the proc rate was lower than intended. [1]."
