Inv misc book 11

The Light and How to Swing It drops from all bosses in Dire Maul, and can be found inside of Dusty Tomes in the same instance.

History[]

WoW-novel-logo-16x62 This section concerns content related to the Warcraft novels, novellas, or short stories.

The Light and How to Swing It is a rare and precious book which was written by Uther the Lightbringer for his pupil, Arthas Menethil, and was never intended to be read by anyone else. It was kept for a time in Mardenholde Keep. At some point it found its way to Lorekeeper Mykos at the Athenaeum in Dire Maul. Around the end of the Fourth War, Mykos donated it to the Silver Hand's archives in Light's Hope Sanctum and removed the mark of the Athenaeum from it, allowing all paladins to read the tome and benefit from Uther's wisdom.[1]

Excerpt[]

Being a true paladin of the Light is both a blessing and a burden. A blessing, in that the Light will come when you ask it to, and you may save the lives of injured comrades while fighting your enemies. A burden, in that you must be willing to shoulder more than you think you can, to do all that the Light tasks you, be it small or great. I know your passion, Arthas, your earnestness and enthusiasm. These are important qualities, for paladins must strike down their foes, not just protect their allies. But these traits must be tempered, with prayer and meditation. Only a calm mind will provide clear actions; only a peaceful heart may be truly infused with the Light. I hope one day you will pause long enough to take a breath and ask for help from the Light, and that it may rush to you joyfully with the answers you seek.[2]

Trivia[]

  • The book is alluded to in one of Uther's interactions with Johanna in Heroes of the Storm: "Please. I was swinging the Light while you were still in short pants."
  • The book's title is a reference to The Lead and How to Swing It, a 1994 album by Tom Jones.

Speculation[]

Questionmark-medium
This article or section includes speculation, observations or opinions possibly supported by lore or by Blizzard officials. It should not be taken as representing official lore.

Since it was written for Arthas, The Light and How to Swing It may be the libram Arthas carried during his time as a paladin.
