The Cauldron is an enormous excavation site in the center of the Searing Gorge. Dark Iron dwarves and their slaves (Ironforge dwarves, gnolls, and a few ogres) work the pits and wield the shovels. ( It is rimmed by the giant excavation machines of the )Dark Iron clan. Many slave laborers captured by the Dark Irons toil away endlessly inside the Cauldron. Driven mad by their masters, the grueling work, and the constant oppressive heat, they will attack anyone interfering with their work in the Cauldron — even potential liberators. In the burning depths of the Cauldron, fire and magma elementals traverse the fiery crevices. It is hard to determine for what the Dark Irons are digging. It is probably for titan or Old God artifacts, but it is hard to know for sure. ( )
This zone is referenced in one of the human male's jokes, as a parallel to Mount Doom in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. However, in the joke he will say that the Cauldron is in the Burning Steppes rather than the Searing Gorge.
- Patch 1.3.0 (07-Mar-2005): Players will no longer fall through the ground at the Cauldron area of the Searing Gorge.
