Is this classified as a race? If not, how is it different than the lich, crypt fiend, or ghost which are other examples given with withered creature, risen, and mechanized animal in Monster Guide. Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 07:26, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

In rpg terms its a template, that could be applied to many different types of creatures. The same as lich or ghost templates. Templates turn one type of race/creature into new type of race/creature or some cases its a sort of a status modifier (Elite creature). Crypt fiend is a special template that is limited to the various types of nerubians. But this is getting too far into discussion of rpg mechanics rather than lore. To answer your question if it is a race/creature is a bit difficult to say. Its name alone suggests it represents a class of creature, but it isn't necessarily a specific type of creature. I'm avoiding the term race/species here in as much that the terms are sometimes used interchangeably with the terms monster and creature as well. This may be an example where terms like race/species/creature/monster are a bit vague, and may not help.Baggins (talk) 07:34, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
