Is this his humanoid name?  Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 11:44, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

He is a Drakonid.--SWM2448 23:51, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

It's an odd name for a drakonid but see others such as Solakar Flamewreath.Warthok Talk Contribs 23:53, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

I know he is a Drakonid. It is an odd name though, but now I see Warthok's example.  Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 01:39, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
He could still be a former humanoid as you said. Maxnar is often believed to be a former mortal, as are the ascendants on netherwing, the cultists on blade's edge, etc...We know dragonspawn were once mortal servents. See the articles on dragonspawn, drakonids, dragonkin, and dragonsworn.Warthok Talk Contribs 03:12, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

Current Strategies GivenEdit

Five people read these strategies, went to the instance, and they utterly failed to work. Killing all the dragons did nothing, Varos' calls always retrieved some and they were always raining down the beams. Moving to somehow avoid the bolts? No go. They could reach out to anywhere on the platform as far as we could tell. Standing in the center while the tank kited counter-clockwise? Useless. The bolts still reached out across the entire platform to kill random party members.

The information talks about "orbs", but in about ten trips to try and kill him, I never saw any orbs. Anyone have a screen-shot that can be viewed of one in operation?

I think there is some information gap in the strategies given, some general assumption that is not explained about how these Arcane damage lightning bolts are working and how to deal with them (short of loading up on massive Arcane resistance gear and protection pots) that is not made apparent by the given explanations.

The bolts go from 1/3 of the orbs to the boss. You can have the boss stand in the center and about 1/3 of the total area will be covered by the bolts. Or you can have the tank pull the boss to the center of the ACTIVE orbs. If the tank does that, then almost none of the area on the platform will be covered by the bolts. However, if the tank makes a mistake and pulls the boss to the wrong edge, then almost ALL of the platform will be covered by the bolts and you're gonna be in deep trouble. I agree with you that killing all the dragons doesn't seem to help with the beam, but I have seen the strategy with pulling the boss to the edge work quite well, and I've also seen it fail big time when the tank proceeded to pull the boss clockwise instead of counter clock wise.

Having the boss in the center has the most forgiveness in bad placement, but requires every party member to know how to move and gives less room for avoiding the beam.

Having the boss on the edge means that only the tank needs to know how to move and allows the party members a lot more freedom of movement. But it also means that if the tank makes a mistake in placement, the entire party pays for the mistake.

As usual, there are lots of ways to skin this particular cat, and each of them involves their own risks and trade offs.

Two days after my entry above, about 07 January 2009, we went back to Occulus and beat Varos. Part of our confusion was that we were looking around for "orbs" and never saw any, because there aren't any.

Varos' platform is a circle, and along the outer edge, about two to three years off the ground, can be found little clouds of light/energy. It appeared there were about six of them. The light in these clouds swirls about and I suppose it could be called an "orb". They blink in and out of view and so they aren't there half the time. If you aren't looking specifically for blinking clouds of swirling light, you might not see them. Eyrta (talk) 15:00, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
