To be a subzone or not to be a subzoneEdit

That is the question. What should and should not be counted as a subzone on the WoWWiki subzone template? First, the Exploring Achievements tell you to "discover" a list of subzones within a zone and you get get credit for discovering that whole zone. Those are obviously subzones. What about the names that come up on your screen when you enter an area within WoW? Should those be called subzones? They are not part of the list of subzones in the Achievment subzone list. Also, an interesting thing is that some subzones picked for the Achievement list seem to contain more than one subzone. What are you talking about you ask? For instance, I had one subzone left in my Explore Howling Fjord list. It was Cauldros Isle. I ran around and saw an area that looked like it might have an island. I ran towards it and I "discovered" Cauldros Lake and it gave me credit for the subzone of Cauldros Isle, and subsequently the whole zone since that was the last on my list. I then kept walking to the island and "discovered" Cauldros Isle. I even got EXP for both. I hadn't paid attention before, but was watching this time closely, so I am thinking this isn't the only time it has happened. Second, there is the fact that when you "discover' some places you get EXP while other places are just "discovered" with no EXP given to the player. Third, when you go to your map it generally has the important site's names or tells you them when you hover your mouse over the area, but I have noticed that in places like Dragonblight if you hover your mouse over the map it will show you the names of some dragonshrines while others will not show up. Is that something of importance or just programming? So the question is how many "subzones" should we put into the subzone template? Every single name that can be discovered? Only those that are on the Achievment list? Only those that give EXP? Those we find in RPG books? Those we find in official guides? A combination of some or all of them? I think some zones, if we are counting everything, have literally double what the zone templates have for them on WoWWiki currrently, so I was wondering if a big template was okay or not. When before now, even in action, has that been called to question? I think you are creating a problem where there was not one. Your confusion may stem from misunderstanding how those achievements work. The goal of them is not to find every subzone, but uncover the entire map. Not counting toward the achievements does not invalidate a location as a subzone. To answer your question: If a subzone's name pops up above the minimap in World of Warcraft, it goes in the template. If it does not appear in World of Warcraft but appears somewhere else, it goes on a list under the list of WoW subzones on the main zone's page.--SWM2448 00:26, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
I was just thinking of the future. I can imagine, after putting all the subzones that exist, into a template on a zone's page someone will say "hey that thing is getting too big how come no one asked about it before" or something along those lines. I feel better now. Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 03:41, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
