Maiden of Virtue possible aggro bug Edit

It's been mentioned in the article, but it seems Maiden is now aggroing anyone who isn't in repentence, such as a Paladin casting Blessing of Sacrifice on the Tank getting aggro. Seems this shouldn't be the case, as logically the tank comes out before the Paladin and thus the tank should take aggro by default.

I have noticed this also. It does not seem to be anything to do with coming out of Repetence first. I'm the raid leader of my group, and i made sure we were all in perfect positioning, all with KTM. My main tank was miles ahead of both me (a rogue), my hunter, and my priest, but they all managed to pull agro at some point during the fight. I've tanked her eight times in the last two months (makes sense, no?) and I've never seen this occur; not during a repentance, and not any other time. My primary guess is that either your threat meters are broken or otherwise (likely), either it is a bug and not a part of the encounter itself. I'm a pally tank, if this helps the reasoning any. Never had any issues with her aggro or losing it, not even to people who break repentance early 'n stuff. This bug, or element of the encounter, doesn't appear to be part of the encounter anymore. tonight - and last night, saw this also - combat log listed the Pally as breaking Repentance BEFORE the MT did despite the dmg being dealt to the tank that should be triggering the blessing. agro returned after, I think a Shield slam, and heroic strike -didn't take much. ( i'm the MT.) - it still seems like it may be some slight prob with the encounter or damg assignment scripting.

I had a good look at what was happening on my last kill of this boss. I have noticed the tank always seems to lose agro at a tiny amount of health, when one more hit will likely kill the tank. It was especially noticable at the end of each repetance. Can anyone confirm this? Nagousta 07:57, 24 March 2007 (EDT)

Toes to the Stairs Strategy Edit

The strategy I have posted may seem counter intuitive, because of the risk of holy wrath. However, with everyone spread out around the base of her platform, we have never procced holy wrath, or if it has, it's damage has been minimal. The benefit of this strat is that there are 0 LOS issues for dispelling holy fire. There has been a change in the holy wrath mechanic, and whatever change was made, it is not proccing when we stand in that arrangement. For both weeks since the patch we have used this strat, and no problems were caused by Holy Wrath -Thranus 04:37, 14 March 2007 (EST)

Holy Fire no longers hits closest nonmelee? Edit

I don't want to edit this just in case this was some strange glitch for us, but I think as of patch 2.0.10 the Maiden of Virtue's Holy Fire no longer attacks the closest nonmelee person. My guild used to use the one paladin method described, where I (the paladin) would soak up all the holy fires that Maiden tossed out. However, today she seemed to hit random nonmelee people. Sometimes me, sometimes the person *behind* me.

Anyone else notice this? Seeing as how it is the first day after the patch I don't want to change comments if it was some odd bug. But she was definetely no longer attacking the closest person in nonmelee like she used to. -Krawnight 00:32, 7 March 2007 (EST)

Noticed the same. Still her targetting mechanism seems to prefer people standing closeby, so we counter it with a Warrior trying to reflect the Holy Fire while a Totem of Grounding is active. --Felbaris 07:37, 7 March 2007 (EST)

Definite change in Holy Fire Edit

Yeah we done her tonight, and she most definitely no longer attacks the closest person, it's completely random.

Refer to the strategy page of this, myself and my guild devised the strategy I listed there, it's under the "Easy Strategy" heading, makes life easy post-2.0.10 patch.

Removal of Tip Edit

Have a warrior in defensive stance just outside of her consecrate range so s/he is further away then all melee, but closer then all ranged/healers. This way holy fire will always be used on s/he. Assuming the warrior has a lot of HP, absorbing them will ease the healers job since all they have to do is cleanse the warrior as soon as they get hit. But thats not the easy mode, the warrior can time her/his Spell Reflect at the right time s/he can bounce the holy fire back onto the maiden. No people yelling omg am holy fired'd'd, and the healers don't have to panic looking for them. Having the warrior stand directly in front of a pally makes targetting them for a cleanse extra easy incase of badly timed reflect."

Melee dmg output Edit

This is not that simple a tank and spank fight, but that is the essence of it. For a prot warrior with 505Defense 12K Armor- the Maiden of Virtue was hitting me for 3800 - 4500 dmg , with crushing blows reaching 5600 to 6100 ( in defensive stance ). HoTs can be tricky to try and keep a tank up during this whole 10 seconds of Repentance - as the DPSTaken for me was near 900 for the fight. The hits are not fast, but they are very hard. Berserker Rage 'does' prefent the 2K dmg from repentance- though MoV will delay beyond the 30 seconds to cast it, on occasion. This delay can make the healing a bit harder , if the MT misses the timing for their Berzerker Rage.

I too had about 12k armor (well, unbuffed), and she only hit me for like 2500-3600 normal, 4k-4.8k CB. Did they reduce her melee damage output? Maybe increased her attack speed? (Patch 2.00.10) Tifi 06:47, 27 March 2007 (EDT)

Cleaning up Strategies. Edit

There's a bunch of strategies here, and I'm thinking of reducing it to basically two:

Paladin healer with Blessing of Sacrifice.

Doing it without the above by positioning to prevent main healer stun.

Any objections?

And they are definitely not immune to the repentance in tree form either! I reverted that recent addition. Pobably someone confused a druid's tactic to stand inside the Holy Ground, intentionally taking the damage, because his HoTs are mostly instant casts and less affected by the periodic silence debuff. Slight Change to Holy Fire Tip Edit

Previously, the tip read that Mouseover dispel was KEY to the fight - which read like it was the only or main way to deal with Holy Fire, which simply is untrue. I changed it to simply that dispelling it is key and that addons like Decursive or a mouseover macro will help. CCMCornell 20:31, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Warrior Intervene Edit

I think should be added to the tips that any non-tanking warriors can help the tank survive during repentance by doing a Shield Block and Intervene on the tank (the shield block makes sure that the intervening warrior doesn't take too much damage via crushing/crit, even in dps gear). We regularly do this fight with just healers topping the tanks health and slapping on all HoTs before repentance, with the help from intervene the healers don't need break the repentance at all for the tank to survive. --Tahlimai 12:55, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

"the tank should have [...] a soulstone." Edit

I removed that part from the article. Don't ever waste a soulstone on the tank, here's why: The basic theory behind Taunt is that it gives the warrior threat equal to that of the person with the highest threat on the mobs threat list, and also applies a debuff on the mob, forcing it to face the warrior. But after the debuff wears out, the warrior will only keep the mob's attention if she was able to generate 10% more threat than said person. It's just 5 seconds, i.e. 3 gcds, so this becomes harder and harder the more the fight has advanced. At a certain point of time it is just impossible for the warrior to generate that much threat, and the soulstone is essentially wasted. Just soulstone a healer, as usual. The 10%-more-threat-to-gain-aggro-after-taunt problem was removed in patch 1.12. Now, in addition to giving the tank Threat equal to that of whoever has aggro, Taunt also gives the tank aggro. He no longer needs to pile on 10% more Threat to keep the mob's attention. (Not that any of this matters on a taunt-immune boss, of course.) --Tracer 02:03, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Holy Wrath Bug Edit

I was just in Kara this last Saturday and while I was off-tanking her, I noticed that Holy Wrath had been thrown on the Warlock in our party. This didn't seem that strange to me but then after I had seen a message that someone was taking care of it, I looked back over to notice that it had jumped on the warlock's Felhunter(using it to eat up the debuffs), which it then preceded to jump back onto the warlock, in which she then died. This may just be a bug from the latest patches, but if not, I think that the portion under Abilities will need to be edited.

Strategy Cleanup 16 October 2007 Edit

Cleaned up the strategy section, moving text to appropriate sections, removing repeated redundant bits about heal-over-time spells, and consolidating the ways of dealing with repentance into a single compact list.

Also put the mouseover macro back in and moved the warrior intervene macro down to the tips section (both with much better formatting).

Also listed ways of getting rid of Holy Fire. I believe that Cloak of Shadows would work, too, but I have no confirmation. Does it, indeed, work? If so, it should go on the list. Kathucka 20:03, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

It's not bad, but it could be better. Labeling with numbers is really annoying, because you have to keep looking at the legend. Your dispeller might be a paladin, not a priest. There's no accounting for a Grounding Totem. The platform is an octagon, not a circle. As of 2.2, Dispel and Cleanse have a short range, and so having the ranged folks touching the steps is better than backed up to the pillars. (It's longer in 2.3, probably because of this one fight.) Still, positioning is so important in this fight that a better diagram would be welcome.Kathucka 23:41, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Possible resetting MaidenEdit

This happened to me, but I don't know if it was a bug, because I haven't had the chance to retry it. She had killed the Main Tank, and I was low on the threat meter (thanks Soul Shatter) and thought I might make it out by the time she killed 6 other people. Stupidly though, I ran the wrong way. At the other end of her hallway, instead of turning left, I went streight. When she followed me down, she reset at the first corner. Belkrast

Holy Wrath and combat pets? Edit

I have never seen Holy Wrath hit a combat pet. Ever. Jondolarsage made a change indicating that it does. Can anyone provide a combat log showing this?

WoW Web Stats has a list of combat logs for Maiden. Maybe someone can find it there?

That's a total of eleven shots of Holy Wrath, with three or four pets for each example. One of those shots hit four targets (ouch!). Those pets made a nice cluster. If it were going to hit a pet, it would have done so.

Until someone comes up with a combat log showing the spell hitting a pet, we'd better assume that it does not. I'll revert the change.

I know I always kept my pet out, (however I placed her on the wall behind me) so that I'd get the +crit from having her out. Only damage she ever took was with the mass stun Maiden does. And this was every week for god knows how long... so I sincerely doubt she targets pets at all. User:Coobra/Sig3 06:17, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

Alternate positioning strategy: Pull into the Corridor Edit

The guild I'm in has successfully downed the Maiden with this strategy, with fewer complications than can arise with the traditional strategy of fighting her in her own room.

The pillars in maiden's room can cause LoS issues with the healers and dispellers. Instead of fighting her in the room she's standing in, it's possible to pull her out into the corridor and position her on one of the green carpets. The raid members can then position themselves around Maiden just as they would in her room (i.e. outside of her Holy Ground attack and spread out enough to avoid chaining Holy Wrath, but in range of each other).

This strategy is particularly useful if not everyone in the group knows exactly where to stand around the pillars in her room, as it takes that factor out of the equation. It does, however, remove the landmarks that can be used to determine if the raid members are spaced far enough apart. The main reason my guild chose this strategy over the traditional one is this:

  • Decent healers can handle the occasional chained Holy Wrath.
  • But not if their targets are out of line-of-sight.

Ironaya? Edit
