Origins of The NightmareEdit

Recent ingame conformation and a meeting with Malfurion has stated that it is the Old Gods who are responsible for the Nightmare after you defeat the Four Dragons during the scepter quest. Afterwards you must face Eranikus the Tyrant of the Dream to protect Malfurions physical body. Long story short you Tyrandes, Remulos and everybody else manages to free the corrupted dragon, where he bids you adieu and goes back to fight the Old Gods. So there you have it, proof of the Old Gods role in corrupting the Emerald Dream. Hope somebody puts that in...-OtherHalfofYang

Interesting enough RPG implies that "Hakkar" is the old god, or spawn of an old god, behind the Nightmare, thus his connection to Eranikus.Baggins 01:10, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

I added some contradiction over Hakkar being the Old god because he seems too weak to have created such a powerful thing. Not to mention that Ragnaros who is a old god servent is stronger then him.

Sign your posts... Too weak? Sorry judging his powers based on how and when he appears in World of Warcraft is not a valid judge of his power. There are too many game mechanics involved, and its been made a linear rpg type game, were players level up to certain requirements, and possible hero or regular modes can be implemented as well.
However, lore wise he's described as being something incredibly powerful, even more powerful than Ragnaros even.
Another thing in paper rpg mechanics things are non-linear. You can encounter something incredibly powerful in Durotar for example, that is you could encounter beasts or monsters of any level. Rather than enemies remaining in level 1-10 status. It makes things more realistic that way. Essentially a hero would be able to encounter a challenge no matter where he goes. On a side note Hakkar's stats have not yet appeared in the RPG.Baggins 22:36, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

One thing to note, the Druid Epic Flight From quest line indicates that it is Anzu, the ancient Raven God who is behind the nightmare. Although it possible that he is not actually behind the Nightmare but merely using it to his own advantage. --Tbannister 22:16, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

I'm fairly confident that The Nightmare will be the cause/form of an Old God we haven't seen yet. Remember the Lovecraft influence of The Old Gods and you can actually get some decent speculation concerning them. Cthulhu, for instance is often described as 'waiting, dreaming'. Information gained from the novel Stormrage details that without a doubt that Xavius the Satyr Lord is the entity responsible for the Emerald Nightmare because he was turned into a tree by Malfurion Stormrage, cast into the Emerald Dream, and began corrupting everything around him with demonic energies (the core area known as the Rift of Aln).AhotahThunderhorn (talk) 06:03, March 28, 2010 (UTC)

Nordrassil/Origins of the NightmareEdit

Although this is speculation, what if Nordrassil was responsible for the creation of the nightmare? It could be that since Nordrassil was a place where Druids could enter the Emerald Dream, and that so many enchantments put on the tree were wiped out when it was destroyed, what if Nordrassil's destruction helped create the Emerald Nightmare?

Another speculation is that, due to Nordrassil's connection with the Emerald Dream, is that the Nightmare is formed due to the fact that Archimonde's remains are "glued" onto the tree's roots, providing a feeding ground for the Nightmare to spring forth from.

Brief Appearance Edit

It should be noted that players travel briefly to the Emerald Nightmare (around the area of Remulos' Shrine) during the quest Quest:Hope Within the Emerald Nightmare in WotLK. Visible are Nightmare Figments (which appear to be Lashers that transform into mirrors of the player on aggro), and Nightmare Aberrations (level 80 Elite Ancients of War with a shadow effect), which serve as the invisible wall of the mini-phased realm. -StarLion (talk) 00:55, January 30, 2010 (UTC)

I'd argue that the Nightmare is a subzone of the Dream that this event occurs in; in either case, the quest name and text more accurately place the event in this area rather than the Dream proper. -StarLion (talk) 14:18, February 1, 2010 (UTC)
