The Sprite Darter Egg item summons and dismisses a Sprite Darter Hatchling, a faerie dragon small pet available only to the Alliance. It is a non-combat pet and will not aid you in battle.

Players can receive a Sprite Darter Egg upon completing a long series of quests.

Preparation

The quest sequence to obtain your Sprite Darter Egg begins in Feralas. The first quest to begin the series becomes available around level 42 but the recommended level to begin is 47. The entire series is substantially faster to complete for mages who can teleport themselves or portal party members to both Darnassus and Ironforge. None of the quests, other than the first one, are sharable to party members because they would not meet the prerequisites.

You will need to visit the following areas to complete the quest:

Feralas (nearest flight path: Feathermoon Stronghold)
Shimmering Flats in Thousand Needles (nearest flight path: Gadgetzan in Tanaris)
Darnassus
The Hinterlands (nearest flight path: Aerie Peak)

It is recommended to have all the flight paths listed above before beginning the quest series.

Quest Walkthrough

Locate Kindal Moonweaver in central Feralas, just east of Dire Maul. She is on a cliff overlooking an encampment of Grimtotem Tauren NPCs who have a cage containing several Sprite Darters. Getting up the cliff is a bit tricky: the path is behind a large tree to the west of the encampment. Complete the quest (Freedom for All Creatures) she gives you to free the sprite darters from the cage. If you fail the quest, remember it can be abandoned and retried. Note that you can clear out a good portion of the camp before accepting the quest and starting the timer, which makes freeing the sprite darters that much easier.
Complete the follow-up quest (Doling Justice) from Kindal's companion, Jer'kai Moonweaver.
Complete the follow-up quest to deliver the report to Darnassus. Note: there is no follow-up quest to lead you to the next step.
Return back to Kindal in Feralas. She will have a new quest for you, An Orphan Looking for a Home. She will not give this quest unless you have completed the previous three quests.
Take the Unhatched Sprite Darter Egg that Kindal gave you to Quentin, who can be found at the racetrack in Shimmering Flats. He will give you a quest to bring him 2x [Elixir of Fortitude], which is created via Alchemy. To save time, obtain the potions before visiting Quentin. This is the most frustrating part of the quest: because the potion formula is a world drop rather than vendor-bought or trained, many alchemists do not know it. Additionally, there is very little demand for these potions so they are not often available at the Auction House. You may want to ask around in the trade channels to find an Alchemist who is willing to make them for a fee, if you or a friend are unable to make them or find them at the Auction House.
After providing the elixir, Quentin will then give you a quest in which you must travel to Aerie Peak in the Hinterlands within 60 minutes and speak to Agnar Beastamer. He can be found inside the stronghold on the bottom floor. This is a fairly long walk if you do not already have the flight path, so it is highly recommended to get it in advance. Mages can teleport or portal to Ironforge and fly to Aerie Peak rather quickly. Others will need to fly from Gadgetzan to Theramore, take the boat to Menethil, and then fly to Aerie Peak. If you do not yet have the flight path to Aerie Peak, you'll need to walk or ride there: nearby flight paths include Southshore, Chillwind Point, or even Refuge Pointe. It is also possible to walk the entire way from Shimmering Flats to Theramore and then from Menethil to Aerie Peak within the 1 hour time limit.
Finally, Agnar Beastamer will ask you to collect 5 Silvermane Stalker Flanks. These can only be collected from Silvermane Stalkers in central-eastern Hinterlands. The wolves are level 48 and stealthed, so they can present a bit of a challenge. The drop rate is moderate, about 50% (Thottbot lists the drop rate as 3% but that's because many people kill these creatures without having the quest).

Notes

The Sprite Darter Egg is soulbound, and cannot be mailed to another player. If you destroy the Sprite Darter Egg, you will lose this pet forever. You cannot repeat the quest to get another one!
