Shoot is a mage, priest, and warlock ability learned at level one. It allows casters to attack using a wand. Note that the ability is found under the General tab in the spellbook.

Notes Edit

Shooting in 0100WoW Icon 16x16 World of Warcraft is not that much different from other MMORPG games. Players with the ability to shoot in most cases move to maximum range and then fire a ranged weapon. Shooting is very useful for finishing off an opponent or dealing damage while avoiding the same.

Most ranged weapons (bows, guns, wands, etc.) also had a minimum range where they could not be fired if too close to the target. This mechanic was fully removed in 0500Mists-Logo-Small Mists of Pandaria.

In World of Warcraft, there are two types of Shoot: one for wands and one for all other ranged weapons (usable by IconSmall Rogue Rogues and IconSmall Warrior Warriors). The latter ability was removed and only the one for wands remains.

IconSmall Hunter Hunters do not have this ability. They have [Auto Shot] instead.

Patch changes Edit

  • 0100WoW Icon 16x16 Patch 1.8.0 (10-Oct-2005): Fixed a bug where these abilities could be used faster than intended.
  • 0100WoW Icon 16x16 Patch 1.7.0 (13-Sep-2005): Should no longer cause a global cooldown on all other abilities.
