Shattered Barrier is a Mage talent in the Frost tree that gives a 100% chance that [Ice Barrier] will trigger a [Frost Nova]-like freezing effect upon being destroyed by enemy attacks. It requires, obviously, that one take the Ice Barrier talent.
Uses[]
- This is one of the Frost tree's iconic PvP talents. Its freezing effect counts towards both [Ice Lance]'s damage bonus and the [Shatter] crit bonus.
- It can be used in combination with Ice Barrier as an additional line of defense against stealthed opponents and general melee or even offensively against any target in 1v1 combat to force a [Shatter] combo. This strategy works well against classes who can't stop their damage reactively such as Affliction Warlocks.
- Its freeze is damageless and will not break crowd control such as [Polymorph] or [Sap]. This makes it viable for PvE encounters, though not terribly useful.
Patch changes[]
- Patch 5.0.4 (2012-08-28): Removed.
- Patch 4.1.0 (2011-04-26): The root effect from Shattered Barrier now shares diminishing returns with the root from [Improved Cone of Cold].
- Patch 4.0.3a (2010-11-23): Duration is now 2/4 seconds, down from 3/6 seconds.
- Patch 4.0.1 (2010-10-12): Now has a 100% chance (was 50/100%) to freeze enemies for 3/6 seconds (was 8 seconds), and icon changed. Moved from tier 7 to tier 5.
- Patch 3.0.2 (2008-10-14): Added.
