Notes
Shadowmeld ability passively boosts rogues and druids' [Stealth] abilities. It is thought to be equivalent to about one rank of [Master of Deception]. While a Rogue's stealth is superior to Shadowmeld, the skills operate on different cooldowns. A rogue or druid can use Shadowmeld while their stealth ability is on cooldown without entering a visible state in between. As a bonus, one can log out while in Shadowmeld.
Shadowmeld can be used both in Moonkin and Tree of Life forms.

In World of Warcraft, any night elf may Shadowmeld at any time, as long as they are not combat flagged. In Warcraft III, the ability could also be used by bandit neutral hostiles, and Night Elves were only able to use it at night. According to Tyrande Whisperwind's dialog, it is a power granted to the Night Elves by the goddess Elune.Template:Cite Though there is no official lore explanation for the differences, it can be assumed that the ability became universal after the relaxing of gender stratification following the conclusion of the Long Vigil.
Tips and tactics
- Shadowmeld can be used while drinking or eating, this is especially useful in a PvP environment, most notably arena.
- Shadowmeld can also be used as a poor-man's stealth to escape pursuers or a bad pull.
- With timing and attention to patterns, many mob patrols may be evaded in Shadowmeld. Hunters combine the skill with [Feign Death] (to break combat) to solo instances.
