Sargeras is a PvP server in the Shadowburn Battlegroup. It belongs to the batch of original servers released upon launch (November 23, 2004) and is one of the largest in the Central Time Zone. The server title Sargeras was taken from Sargeras the Destroyer, the Fallen Titan, creator and leader of the Burning Legion. Sargeras was once a Titan, a champion chosen by his fellow members of the Pantheon to defend the worlds they had created.

Raborn and Rabornsdk was the first person to play on Sargeras Server. He played solo for the first 3 months of US-Sargeras existence.

In the middle of 2005, players began experiencing heavy latency and large queue times due to a large player base. Transfers were opened up to the Detheroc server, which caused several of the original end-game guilds, mostly Horde, to switch. The server still maintains a large population, however, and several original guilds from both factions are still around in 2008, both raid-oriented and casual-oriented guilds. As of late January through February of 2008, the server once again began experiencing login queues, as high as 20 minutes, as a result of open transfers to the server.

Sargeras was and still is primarily known among other realms for its PvP atmosphere. The community has several large groups, from both factions, that enjoy engaging in vigourous battles. World PvP raids are still frequent as well, and typically grow to large numbers, sometimes leading to server crashes. The introduction of the Dishonorable Kills system and Battlegrounds shifted PvP focus away from world PvP. However, world PvP slightly gained strength again once the Dishonorable Kills system was removed and players were allowed to once again engage in real world PvP.

As of 2008, guilds from both factions have completed Black Temple on the server, and most 10 and 25-man instances see heavy progression. The 10-man content of Karazhan and Zul'Aman is extremely popular on the server, and while 25-man content still gets action, many guilds have ended their "raiding days." Some raiding guilds have merged with other guilds in order to sustain enough people, or have broken off to form smaller, tight-knit raiding guilds, composed of members from multilpe other guilds, strictly for the purpose of PvE progression.

In the WOTLK expansion, released in late 2008, of all the players to race to 80, Nawra was the first to hit the mark. Leveling and progression was very fast paced on the server. Within a month, all content had been cleared. Three months later, pugs were regularly clearing through most of the higher content, while it is still typically required to be in a guild with some strength to clear the most challenging content.

By mid 2009, Sargeras 10/25 man pugs became fairly common as the player base of the server increased once again. Pugs being led by some more notable players met with great success with most of the available content, short of Algalon.

Sticking with server tradition, Player vs. Player is highly active on Sargeras. It was established early on as one of the leaders in intense fighting and remains true to its roots via battlegrounds, arenas, and world PvP. The Alliance:Horde ratio remains relatively even in activity, with brackets of all levels seeing competition. Though Recently Alliance has increased in population and camping lower levels.

In Battlegrounds and Arenas, Sargeras is in the Shadowburn battlegroup and has the highest ratio of ranked teams. In the Season One Hall of Fame, five of the top 19 teams were from the Sargeras realm, with similar ratios in the other brackets. Season Two activity is also strong, though the strongest showing for the server is in the 5v5 bracket.

World PvP also remains strong on Sargeras in comparison to most servers with every contested area seeing action throughout the day. As with other servers, the zones of Stranglethorn, Nagrand, and Hellfire Penninsula remain the strongest areas for cross-faction fighting. The term "Red = Dead" has been the mindset for much of the Sargeras lifespan, though transfers and battlegrounds shifted focus to instance raiding somewhat. Grom'Gol is one of many examples of how World PvP is still alive and well on Sargeras. For hours and days on end, Alliance had camped the Zeppelins which disallowed any players to go to Orgrimmar via Zeppelin. To this day, Grom'Gol still gets raided and camped to a certain degree.

By early 2009, PvP took a downturn on the server. While being one of the top servers in the battlegroup, Sargeras has shifted from a heavy PvP server to more PvE than PvP. Many of the notable PvP players on Sargeras had either quit or server transfered by this time. City raids are still fairly common, but the large increase of Alliance players compared to Horde has left the PvP balance on Sargeras wanting.

With the launch of The Burning Crusade, and thus many new dungeons, the Sargeras community didn't hesitate to delve into this new content in terms of raid progression. Current 25-man PvE progression includes the completion of Black Temple by multiple guilds, and a handful of other guilds are working their way through other 25-man content such as Gruul's Lair, Serpenshrine Cavern, Tempest Keep - The Eye, and Mount Hyjal. The largest and most well-know raiding-oriented guilds on each faction known for PvE progression emphasis are Mob Mentality (H), The Turks (H), Anonymous (A), and Eminence (A). Some raiding-oriented guilds offer spots in their raids for a fee or charge for the purchasing of epic-quality items from some 25-man dungeons.

However, as of 2010, very few active guilds on the server still have original players from the server launch or within the first couple months of its existance. The server also has original guilds founded in November of 2004 that are still around today. As such, the previously mentioned guilds either do not exist, or exist only in name, with newer guilds replacing them, such as Seriously Casual (A), Origins (a merger of Situational Awareness and Trayah)(A), VoS(H), and Invalid(H).

The Realm Forums

Sargeras, due to its size and competitive nature, has an active forum user base with several regulars. The community has always been relatively tightly-knit, with members of both factions often chatting with each other outside of the game via messengers, IRC, etc.

As of 2009, most of the older "trolls" have left, with new ones taking their place. The social atmosphere of the server is considered rather hostile and many players looking for a mature server have either left or stay relatively anonymous. Trade chat, especially for Alliance, is usually filled with trolls.

Memorable Events in the History of the Sargeras Server

Insidious Wrath WPvP Community (Horde)

IW is the largest and most active World PVP Guild on the US-Sargeras Server. The guild was created on December 19th 2011, by Oni, Eary and Lust. According to the guild, their goal is to promote World PvP and to help replenish the ranks of the Horde in a current 12% vs 88% Faction difference in the Alliance favor.

Since the creation of Insidious Wrath, the guild has spent a significant amount of time provoking and engaging in World PvP in many areas predominately occupied by Alliance players. A few Alliance guilds regularly engage Insidious Wrath in opposition. Insidious Wrath claims that Tol Barad is now commonly controlled by the Horde as a result of their organization.

Insidious Wrath maintains a popular Youtube channel and spend a significant amount of time arguing with people on the official World of Warcraft US-Sargeras forums. In April, 2012, an "Insidious Wrath" thread was posted by an appreciative Alliance player, praising the guild for fostering growth in World PvP. The thread turned into an ongoing sludge of incomprehensible bickering and insults from both Horde and Alliance, combined with screenshots of dead players and videos. The replies to the original thread were so numerous that the thread capped. Since then, someone has maintained creating follow-up threads, and it is currently in its sixth version.

Insidious Wrath is controversial both as a result of their provocative nature and their persistence in forum trolling. The tactics displayed include belligerence, awful grammar, selective replying and singular focus to claim superiority. The persistence frustrates many Alliance players, who take the troll bait, which often results in World PvP.

The Race to Ahn'Qiraj

The server transfers Sargeras experienced over its earlier history deteriorated the state of the server, and some of the most active PvE guilds from both factions had moved to Detheroc in order to find better playing conditions. Although the transfers didn't affect the Alliance factions very much, the Horde lost TKT, Obvious Assassins, and End Guys, three of the premier PvE raiding-oriented guilds on the server. At the release of patch 1.9, a new race started; The Gates of Ahn'Qiraj (AQ).

The Alliance began the race with the two most powerful PvE guilds on the server: Divine Vigilance (DV) and Guardians of Dawning Sun (GoDS), both racing to craft the scepter in order to ring the Scarab Gong. The race consisted of a questline composed of several steps which required the quest-bearer to raise his reputation with the Brood of Norzdomu (Bronze Dragonflight), as well as complete multilpe steps requiring raid groups, traveling around the world searching for shards of the Scepter of the Shifting Sands. Although Narajina of The Wrecking Crew (TWC) was the only player on the Horde faction to obtain Broodlord Lashlayer's head at this point in time, he didn't have the opportunities to proceed further in the quest chain, thus, leaving the Alliance unchallenged.

The race between the few Alliance guilds working on the chain was competitive, and asking for the help of other guilds to help their own efforts took place. However, it was Divine Vigilance who eventually took the lead, completing the scepter third overall on the U.S. server system. It was now up to the members of the Sargeras community to collect all the necessary resources for the war effort. For most of this time, Sargeras remained in the top 100, usually in 70-60th place. However, during the last week, Sargeras started to progress at a formidable pace, and finished at a whopping 18th place (24th on some ISPs).

On Friday, February 17 of 2006, the race ended. Lokor, wielding the scepter for Divine Vigilance, and Lightbringr of the Guardians of Dawning Sun, made an attempt to get up to the gong to open that gates. However, there was a massive amount of both horde and alliance already there. The server couldn't handle the amount of people that came to watch the event. However, some Horde players did everything they could to promote world PvP. Obsidian Spur (OS) and Team eXecute (TX) composed a large portion of the world PvP raid of players who used AoE not only to kill the sceptor-wielders, but lag the server enough to cause crashes. There were about 20 Kalimdor crashes over a period of three hours. At around 3:00 A.M. in the morning, when the server was more stable, Lokor walked up to the gong and used the scepter. The massive guardians of the Ahn'Qiraj gates spawned on top of the Horde and Alliance raids and proceeded to destroy them, further making their way to Cenarion Hold.

One notable event that occurred on the Sargeras server in the months preceding the release of the Burning Crusade expansion was a fight between one of the Horde side's largest raiding guilds, and a lone player who took it upon himself to lead a campaign against them. The fight was over specific actions made by the large guild, and how the lone player saw these actions as exploitation, and an abuse of power.

The reality is that this entire event never occurred as described here at all. We actually never ran a BWL pay gold for epics raid...not once. The primary reason we never did it was lack of interest. The one lone player who go upset on the forums was a joke to us and we made some replies to him on the boards laughing at how stupid he was for a day or two then moved on to other things. Why this completely insignificant event has managed to be incorporated into the wiki history here is laughable and likely written here by Vadrick himself, who we will remind you, was refused entry into MM on a regular basis. Every single one of his applications in the past were turned down by us. - Azile

Ah good. THIS again. Wish my old pal Sarvain hadn't mentioned this because he knows this is exactly the kind of thing that gets under my skin, and can't really help myself. Here goes: 1) No, I didn't write this. 2) Yes, it was worth laughing about because the entire thing was ridiculous. I KNEW it was ridiculous while I was doing it, but it's funny to beat the hornet's nest and watch everyone who takes took that crap so seriously at the time start whining. I got the response I thought would happen, was amused, and moved along. 3) I will you remind YOU that I was NOT refused entry into MM on a regular basis because I only ever tried to get into MM once. ONCE. And that ONE time was because my real life pal Sarvain was in there. I detested raiding, and wanted no part of it, so why would I try to get into one of the server's top RAIDING guilds? I wouldn't. So, while I concede totally that pretty much everything this Mem person said here is way over the top, you can't accuse them of bending the facts when you're doing it yourself ole' buddy ole' pal. >Vadrick 10/18/12

In the months before the release of the Burning Crusade expansion, many guilds over many servers were scrambling to complete their NAXX runs, and Mob Mentality was no exception. The cost of constant raid was starting to take its toll, and to fix the lack of money needed to raid, Mob Mentality (hereto mentioned as "MM") began hosting BWL Raids that were open to the public - charging the guest players for each item they won at a price determined (hundreds of gold per item) before the raid. It was advertised as MM being good guys in that they were giving a way for players with lesser gear to get a decent boost that would carry them through many of the new levels of the expansion pack. All was fair, and everyone happy, except for one player.

We did post advertising this service, again though, never went anywhere due to lack of interest. - Azile

After two weeks of successful BWL raids, advertisements for the BWL runs made in the chat channels of Orgrimmar were attacked, and a post was put on the Sargeras Realm forums, accusing them of abusing their power as a well-to-do raiding guild, as well as exploiting the Horde of Sargeras. Particular members of MM were singled out in the flame war, those being Azile, Icce, Compcase, and Endac. The player attacking them was Vadrick, the head of a small guild called Plays Well With Others, and he claimed that he was taking it upon himself to say to MM what everyone else was thinking: That they were overcharging for Epic Gear that would be replaced with Green and Blue Gear from the Outlands in the early levels of the 60's, and that MM was exploiting players who normally had no means of running BWL. The argument and flame-war were on, and by the end of that week the victors were very happy.

Vadrick was attacked both by MM as a whole, as well as friends of MM and others who disagreed with him. He was accused of everything from being jealous to wanting to gain fame on the backs of MM. He found that when in game he was attacked with /whispers from these people, one of which tried to goad him into swearing so that they could get him banned for 3 days. Even after the fight was over this continued, but he still persisted that he didn't want to run BWL, nor did he wish any fame, and that he only wanted MM to be honest. That is, to run public BWL runs for free if they truly felt the way they made it sound in their advertisements then they should run them for free, and that they'd benefit all the more because the people they're helping would remember the kindness.

lol I really was attacked this way by a whole lot of different people. I assume most were NOT in MM, but a few flat-out admitted they were. Wasn't any of the big players but just schmoes, or alt characters. The next paragraph describes a campaign against me by MM, and I really, really have doubts they cared that much. >Vadrick 10/18/12

Eventually, due to his persistence, MM issued a low-key policy of not speaking with Vadrick, nor acknowledging his postings on the forums. MM was to ignore the situation entirely, as it was causing small amounts of noise within their own ranks. Other players on the server started to side with Vadrick, and while it wasn't many it did give an amount of credit to what he was saying. One ex-member of MM said, "-he [Vadrick] came up and hit the leaders over the head with a hammer, and I was glad. They needed it, because he was right. They bragged a few times about how dumb the people who were paying to go to BWL were-"

The majority of MM has no clue who Vadrick was. A campaign against him was never instigated by us. Again, false. - Azile

By the end of that week MM began running open-to-the-public BWL runs for free, keeping for themselves only the gold and silver dropped to cover repairs. The Horde of Sargeras thanked MM, and many players lined up to go, and MM was able to both line their pockets and help their new Horde friends. Vadrick didn't partake of the BWL runs just as he'd said, and as soon as the free runs were initiated he thanked MM, and then said no more of the situation.

This is the part I find the most hilarious, simply put, MM would NEVER run a public BWL raid. It never happened. - Azile

MM continues to raid post-expansion, and is still one of the premier Horde raiding guilds on Sargeras, being the first horde guild to clear through all of Black Temple. Vadrick continued to stay quiet on the subject until the expansion release, when he left the Sargeras server to reroll elsewhere.

The only real truth to the article is this. We kept raiding until Azile left MM and the guild shortly disbanded afterwards of a few months, whether because of lack of interest in the new face of WoW exapnsion or because Azile was the driving leader and force necessary to keep MM motivated. We will never know really. MM had been plagued with "tank" issues from day 1. Throughout the years of raiding and leading MM, I never ever was fully sure if out "main tanks" would even be available raid to raid. Regardless, it is ancient history now. - Azile

In response to the above, Azile was certainly not the driving force behind MM. It was a contribution of many people. Azile did his part in assuring successes and doing his officer duties. There were a few tank changes throughout the years, but I was largely around for most all of it. The death of MM was a lack of interest in the content, since we had a great number of key players quit after the expansion launched. Simple attendance issues resulted in the merging of Horde guilds to keep their numbers high. I personally do not remember any of this Vadrick character, and I was quite active in the Mob Mentality events since becoming their MT. Hope this clears some things up.~Nethageraba

Vadrick didn't write this. I am a real life friend of 15 years with him and was the first one to tell him about this on the wiki a few years back. Not sure who wrote it but he has never gone by the name of Mem or anything like that. Now it might be a friend of his I don't know too well, but not him. He signed in for the first time in years a couple of months ago and people still send him tells about this whole event. Why? I have no idea. To me it is much ado about nothing as he rarely plays and MM has been dead for years now. On a side-note I was in MM when this all started. I didn't really take a side on this and I have nothing to add still. I left because some of the people in MM were elitist pricks, as was common in those days with any raiding guild that could actually down content. VoS was a much cooler guild to be in, and still survives today. - Sarvain 9/1/2012

The best part of this entire thing to me is it's 2012. 6 YEARS since this crap happened, and not only is this article still here, but people are getting bent out of shape about it. I mean really. Instead of just deleting the entire thing (which is what ANY OF YOU READERS should do should it ruffle thine feathers), it's instead left here, whined about, and then used to toot his own horn on how his peen and nothing else kept his illustrious guild running. /golfclap.
