The scarlet knights are ex-paladins, warriors, and mounted warriors that joined the Scarlet Crusade.[1] The Scarlet Crusade has a couple of ex-paladins dedicated to training new paladins that join the organization. Paladins seem drawn to the organization, but few can balance their commitment to the Light with the dark deeds done by the Scarlet Crusade, so few keep their holy status. Most abandon the teachings of the Light and find their abilities changing to suit their new mindsets.[2] A broken Knight of the Silver Hand is transformed into a loyal zealot of the Scarlet Crusade by Scarlet inquisitors.[3] The Scarlet Crusade's loyal knights are convinced (by their inquisitors) that the Church of the Holy Light will eventually see their way of life as necessary.[4] The common folk are terrified of the Crusade, and few oppose the scarlet knights out of fear for their lives.[5] Scarlet knights work with the Scarlet Crusade priests, who rebuke undead, forcing the undead foes to cower long enough for the mounted knights to do their work. They also run down fleeing enemies.[6]

The shields of the former knights of the Holy Light once glowed white. As they turned to the Scarlet Crusade, the light of their shields turned blood red.[7] Bestor is a known knight of the Crusade.

In World of Warcraft[]

WoW Icon update This section concerns content related to the original World of Warcraft.

Knighthood in the Scarlet Crusade was still considered a position of prestige, as initiates had to face rigorous trials in Stratholme in front of Grand Crusader Saidan Dathrohan himself. Failure in undergoing the rites however ended up in immediate execution, as the siblings Jarien and Sothos harshly discovered.[8]

Known knights are High Commander Goodchilde and the Scarlet Knights.
