In the Shadow of the SunEditThis section concerns content exclusive to the Warcraft novels or short stories.
Some time during the Third War, Renthar Hawkspear served as the current leader of the High elves that settled in Quel'Lithien Lodge. That was when they were approached by Lor'themar Theron, the Regent Lord of Quel'Thalas, who had come to offer his great apology on behalf of Sun King Kael'thas Sunstrider, a former member who betrayed the Kirin Tor and the Lord of the Blood elves. Once he learned of the Prince's demise, Renthar wanted to know on who would be worthy to take the crown as prince, but Lor'themar told him that there was none.
While Ghostlands had fallen to the Scourge and the land became haunted in its current state, Renthar refused to allow Lor'themar to provide aid and supplies to him and his people since the Regent Lord and those that followed him became Blood elves and considered them as traitors. Remembering how Lor'themar banished the quel'dorei, Hawkspear swore to lead those that refused to become blood elves and would never serve in the rank of the honorable Horde.
CataclysmEditThis section concerns content exclusive to Cataclysm.
Following the Shattering that was caused by Deathwing the Destroyer, Renthar had recently found an 'item of magical energy'. He sought to use it to achieve power and earn the title as "Crown Prince of Quel'Thalas", but the energy that he used back-fired, in which it nearly turned all of the high elves at the lodge into Wretched. Torn with grief, Renthar Hawkspear himself chose to become Death-Hunter Hawkspear.
- Death-Hunter Hawkspear says: You choose my corpse over another ally against the undead? So be it.
- Probably "Renthar Hawkspear" mentioned in the short story, Lor'themar Theron: In the Shadow of the Sun, where he is portrayed as the leader of Quel'Lithien Lodge (with Aurora Skycaller) before the events of Wrath of the Lich King.
