“All who wish to hone their skills as assassins and thieves are welcome in Ravenholdt Manor.”

Lord Jorach Ravenholdt[1]

Ravenholdt (also known as the Assassin's League) is a guild of thieves and assassins led by Lord Jorach Ravenholdt, which welcomes only those of extraordinary prowess into its fold. Their headquarter is the Ravenholdt Manor located in Alterac Mountains,[77.5, 29.0]VZ-Hillsbrad FoothillsBlip where outsiders are not really welcome,[2] as making it out of here without a blade in the back or poison in the veins would be considered an accomplishment.[3] The guild has been in conflict for years with the criminal organization known as the Syndicate.

At the time of the third invasion of Azeroth, the Assassin's League joined the ranks of the Uncrowned to fight the Burning Legion, with their leader Lord Ravenholdt at the head of the rogue order.

They are a rogue-orientated faction that primarily serves during the Fangs of the Father questline. Prior to Cataclysm, the manor served as a low-level introduction to the rogue Ability spy [Detect Traps] ability.

History[]

Ravenholdt

The Ravenholdt Manor in Alterac Mountains.

Many years before the events of World of Warcraft, members of the Blackrock clan stole the Inv misc horn 02 [Horns of Nez'ra] from Ravenholdt.[4]

With the rise of the Syndicate, Ravenholdt became entrenched in a battle with them for years, as what they lack in skill they make up for in numbers, making it impossible to kill them off fast enough to have any noticeable impact on their numbers.[5] At some point, the guild accepted SI:7's aid in routing out the Syndicate affliction, housing the base of operations out of Jorach Ravenholdt's manor.[6]

World of Warcraft[]

In time, Ravenholdt found that the best way to deal with the Syndicate was to pilfer their emblems, as once it is stolen, the shamed member is 'dealt' with internally. Consequently, they hired rogue adventurers to regularly steal emblems from their enemies across the region.[5]

At some point, Ravenholdt took an interest in promising rogue adventurers, who later received a letter from Grand Master Fahrad inviting them to begin on a career as a disciple of Lord Ravenholdt and member of the Assassin's League. Their first task was to find the hidden Ravenholdt Manor in the hills of Hillsbrad Foothills, and to bring them the Inv jewelry talisman 01 [Seal of Ravenholdt] attached to the letter. In the cave leading to the manor, the apprentice thieves had to perform the "Rite of Cunning" by checking which chests were trapped or not, and for those failing, they were attacked by Milton Beats.[7]

After being stolen by some thieves, whom he had eliminated by his assassins, Lord Jorach Ravenholdt summoned a promising rogue adventurer through their rogue trainers, in order to retrieve his Inv misc bag 16 [Sealed Azure Bag] sold to some Timbermaw Shaman in Azshara.[8] He then sent them to ask help from Archmage Xylem in his tower, in order to remove the enchantment on the bag.[9]

As his rogues needed to hone their lockpicking skills, Grand Master Fahrad asked adventurers to bring him heavy junkboxes in exchange for some of the finest throwing knives known to roguekind.[10]

After he searched across continents and oceans, Arantir discovered that the horns of the Demon Prince Nez'ra were in possession of the Blackrock orcs in Redridge Mountains. He later instructed a rogue adventurer to kill any orcs they encountered, promising that their name would be known to Ravenholdt if they brought back the artifact.[4]

At some point, Lord Jorach Ravenholdt tasked Dirk Thunderwood to track down a new and extremely effective poison compound that could be crafted from the venom sacs of the inhabitants of Zul'Gurub and the Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj. The dwarf enlisted the services of adventurers to bring him the venom sacs from Kurinnaxx and Venoxis.[11]

When the SI:7 lost five of its best field agents assigned on the Marris case, Ravenholdt refused to assist Mathias Shaw in his investigations on Nathanos Blightcaller.[12]

Cataclysm[]

Fahrad and Wrathion

Wrathion and Grand Master Fahrad planning their attacks against the black dragonflight.

Following the Cataclysm, on the orders of Grand Master Rogue Fahrad, the Assassin's League stole Wrathion's egg from the red dragonflight at Vermillion Redoubt and brought it to Ravenholdt Manor. One of the infiltrators was killed during the mission, burned and nearly bitten in half by a red dragon.[13][14] When Mostrasz and a rogue adventurer arrived after following the tracks, the Ravenholdt agents were on high alert, and they had to sneak in the manor to avoid security. Inside they discovered that Wrathion eventually hatched and began operations to exterminate the remains of the black dragonflight. At this point, the rogue champion stopped serving the red dragonflight and began aiding Ravenholdt and the Black Prince.[15]

Their first target was Lord Hiram Creed, a black dragonkin disguised as an affluent Gilnean noble who manipulated a group of Gilnean humans and worgen named the Blackhowl in Gilneas City, secretly infecting them with his own draconic blood. According to Fahrad, he lost many of his best agents to get this information, and none were able to infiltrate the city after their discovery. The rogue champion was thus sent to assassinate the drakonid with the help of Zazzo Twinklefingers.[16]

Their second target was Nalice, formerly the representative of the black dragonflight at Wyrmrest Temple, their agents found her as the leader of the Blackwyrm Cult in the caverns beneath Karazhan.[17] With the help of Zazzo Twinklefingers,[18] the rogue champion was sent to destroy her and to bring back a vial of her blood.[19]

As his rogues needed to hone their lockpicking skills, Winstone Wolfe asked adventurers to bring him heavy junkboxes in exchange for some of the finest throwing knives known to roguekind.[10]

After Deathwing was defeated, the red dragonflight attacked Ravenholdt Manor to kill Wrathion. During the battle, the manor was burned, while Wrathion managed to survive and kill their leader Mostrasz, although many of the assassins were killed in the battle. After he rewarded the rogue champion with the legendary Fangs of the Father, Wrathion announced their final mission, to kill the last black dragon, the Grand Master Rogue himself. Despite Fahrad insisting that he was in control, the Old Gods' voices in his head forced him to attack the uncontrollable Black Prince, only to be killed by the rogue champion on the orders of Wrathion.[20]

Following their victory, Wrathion left the assassins of Ravenholdt behind to seek his destiny elsewhere, as he heard rumors of a new land "beyond the mists of the sea".[20]

Mists of Pandaria[]

Mists of Pandaria This section concerns content related to Mists of Pandaria.

At the time of the Alliance-Horde war in Pandaria, the mage agent Zazzo Twinklefingers could be seen investigating the Pools of Purity's magical waters with a Blacktalon Agent.

According to Wrathion, his contacts among Ravenholdt told him that the Alliance 7th Legion and a considerable Horde invasion force were converging toward Pandaria's southern shores.[21]

Legion[]

Legion This section concerns content related to Legion.

At the time of the third invasion of Azeroth, several members of the organization joined the Uncrowned in the Hall of Shadows, with their leader Lord Jorach Ravenholdt at the head of the rogue order. Following the Battle for Broken Shore, Jorach Ravenholdt came into contact with a rogue hero by sending a Ravenholdt Courier carrying a sealed letter, inviting them to join him alone and in complete discretion in the Hall of Shadows through his contact "Red" Jack Findle in the Glorious Goods of Dalaran. In the Chamber of Shadows, he met the rogue hero alongside the Council of Shadows and invited them to take their seat as the final Shadow, and help them lead the Uncrowned in their war against the Burning Legion.[22]

At some point, the Shadow sent his agents to recruit Winstone Wolfe at Ravenholdt Manor, so that he could continue the Order Hall researches for the Uncrowned.[23] For this mission, Lord Ravenholdt provided a sizeable sum of gold to entice Winstone Wolfe, and upon arriving, the rogues had to fight the wrathguard Valitos who was attacking the manor.[24]

During the Assault on Broken Shore, Arantir traveled to Deliverance Point where he fought the demons alongside the Armies of Legionfall.

Characteristics[]

Ravenholdt Sentry

A typical Ravenholdt sentry.

As one of the elitist assassin organizations on Azeroth, Ravenholdt has been shown to work with other rogue organizations such as SI:7,[6] Blacktalon,[25] and other organizations through their contacts in the Uncrowned. Among them, Lord Jorach Ravenholdt is notably in contact with many rogue trainers across the world, being able to ask them for services if necessary.[8]

The Insignia of Ravenholdt is only given to those who have demonstrated mastery of the shadows, and killed in service to Ravenholdt. Their stores notably include enchanted garments, which are reserved for rogues of exceptional skill and loyalty.[26] The Ravenholdt agents primarily wear dark-colored assassin outfits with masks, such as the Assassination Armor, the VanCleef's Battlegear set, and the Deathmantle armor.

The Ravenholdt Assassins are Lord Jorach Ravenholdt's personal guard, and are deployed from his manor whenever a "special" occasion demands it.[27]

In the Ravenholdt Manor, Master Kang is responsible for teaching combat techniques, ways of assassination, and battle strategies to the Ravenholdt agents at the training ground. The dwarf brothers Dirk and Smudge Thunderwood are in charge of producing poisons for the organization's members.[11] Zan Shivsproket is their specialty engineer and produces locks of adequate difficulty for the lowliest neophytes in the guild.[10] Laura Stern served as the recruiter for the Ravenholdt assassins in the Hall of Shadows.

According to Arantir, to deny Ravenholdt their artifacts would be to deny one's own existence.[4]

Reputation[]

Ravenholdt is arguably one of the most difficult reputation grinds in the game, and reaching exalted was part of the criteria for the Ability mage brainfreeze [Insane in the Membrane] feat of strength. Reputation can be gained via repeatable quests, like the rogue-only Fangs of the Father questline (need the Dragon Soul raid instance done), and by killing members of the Syndicate. You can get up to 11999/12000 Honored by killing the NPCs. To get to revered and exalted, you need to complete N [60] Junkboxes Needed.

Neutral Friendly Honored Revered Exalted Rep Notes
Quests ~3,225 9 Quests
Repeatable Quest 75 Heavy Junkboxes x5
Mobs
Members of the Syndicate
5 Caps at 11999/12000

Anyone can do N [60] Junkboxes Needed, but a rogue will be required to pickpocket the Heavy Junkboxes. Good locations for pickpocketing them are Blackrock Spire and Burning Steppes. In return you will receive Inv throwingknife 03 [Dusksteel Throwing Knife] and 75 reputation with Ravenholdt (82.5 if you are human) and lose 75 reputation with the Syndicate. See Farming Heavy Junkboxes for a more in-depth guide.

Members of the Syndicate can be found in the following locations:

The maximum number of items that would be needed for the repeatable quests (without any reputation-gaining enhancements) would be:

Junkboxes Needed 200 400 800 1,400 2,800

There is no physical reward for improving Ravenholdt reputation, such as gear or access to new quests. However, after improving a character's standing within the faction, the guards and assassins around Ravenholdt Manor will behave differently towards the player, from hinting they wish to stab the player with a knife to eventually rejoicing at the player's presence.
