Raise Dead is a Death knight talent that allows the death knight to raise a Risen Ally as a temporary combat pet. It is automatically learned by Unholy death knights. Unholy death knights can also upgrade the ghoul to a permanent pet with a shorter cooldown with the Inv pet ghoul [Raise Dead] talent.

Background[]

Raise Dead and other similar abilities have been a staple of the Warcraft series, commonly used by practitioners of necromancy, including Necrolyte units in Warcraft I, Death Knight units in Warcraft II, and Necromancer units in Warcraft III.

  • Dragonflight Patch 10.0.0 (2022-10-25): Now a row 1 class talent (was a level 12 ability). Rank 2 split into a separate talent for Unholy.

  • Shadowlands Patch 9.0.1 (2020-10-13):
    • Now available to all specializations at level 12 (was a level 55 Unholy spell) as a temporary pet with a 2-minute cooldown.
    • Rank 2 added for Unholy death knights at level 29, reducing the cooldown to 30 seconds and making the ghoul permanent.
  • Battle for Azeroth Hotfix (2018-08-07): The Risen Ally's Claw ability will no longer incorrectly gain damage from Achievement zone westernplaguelands 01 [Mastery: Dreadblade]. The Achievement boss festergutrotface [Dark Transformation] upgrade to Sweeping Claws still benefits from Mastery.

  • Wrath-Logo-Small Patch 3.2.0 (2009-08-04): This spell will no longer give two errors when the casting player lacks the reagent to cast it.
  • Wrath-Logo-Small Patch 3.1.0 (2009-04-14): Duration lowered to 60 sec. and cooldown lowered to 3 min. The cooldown on this ability now begins when the pet dies rather than when it is summoned.

  • Wrath-Logo-Small Patch 3.0.8 (2009-01-20): Raise Dead has now been split into two spells:
    • Raise Dead now raises a ghoul or pet ghoul (if talented). Requires Inv misc dust 02 [Corpse Dust] if no humanoid corpse is nearby.
