Stop the Fires! is a daily quest related to the seasonal world event Hallow's End.

The Official horde mini-icon Masked Orphan Matron wants you to help put out all the village fires (already burning). When they are out, speak again to the Masked Orphan Matron in town.

  • Put Out the Fires

The Horde's children need you, <name>. The Headless Horseman, once a human paladin and now an insane fiend, has set fire to our village! You must put out those fires!

Grab a [bucket] and throw it onto the blaze, or toss it to an ally who is closer to the flames. Extinguish all the fires and thwart the Headless Horseman!

The Horde's children need you! Do not abandon them!

The fires are out! You and your fire brigade were victorious! Hah!

The Headless Horseman's attack has failed, but until he and his head are destroyed together, He will return.

Until then, however, let's take comfort in the safety you brought our children. I am honored to have watched your brave work today.

You will receive:
Inv misc food 59
3x [Hallow's End Pumpkin Treat]
Inv misc bag 28 halloween
[Weighted Jack-o'-Lantern]

  • 3300 XP and 35Silveror 13Gold 23Silverat level 80

The Official horde mini-icon Masked Orphan Matron can be found in Razor Hill in Durotar, in Eversong Woods, and in Brill in Tirisfal Glades during the Hallow's End seasonal event.

To create a [Water Bucket] item in your inventory, loot the Water Barrel that is on the ground next to the Matron. Throwing the Water Bucket is a two step process; first you use the bucket to create a targeting circle, and then you left click the circle to throw the bucket, much like bombs and dynamite.

The Horseman mob associated with the village attacks is the Combat 15 [11] IconSmall HeadlessHorseman Shade of the Horseman, not the Combat 15 [80] IconSmall HeadlessHorseman Headless Horseman.

The touring Orphans will say things like

  • Matron! Is that bad man going to eat us?
  • If my dad were alive, he would put out the fires!

Official horde mini-icon [35] "Let the Fires Come!" and Official horde mini-icon [1] Stop the Fires! are essentially the same, except "Let the Fires Come!" initiates the Horseman's attack. The Horseman's attacks are not on a timer, they occur whenever anyone accepts the "Let the Fires Come!" from the local Matron.

Successfully completing either one will give your character the credit for the Money achievement The Savior of Hallow's End achievement. Failing to put out the fire leaves these in your quest log, and the next time you are present when a fire is put out, you can turn it in. It does not have to be at the same location (but you can only turn in to your faction's Matrons). If you happen to come into town when the Large Jack-o'-Lantern is down, you can turn in the quest, even though you did not fight the fire.

Putting out the fires and defeating the Horseman causes the Large Jack-o'-Lantern to fall off the Horseman. This can be looted once daily for a symbol which can be turned in to the Matron for a [Crudely Wrapped Gift]. This is not part of the "Let the Fires Come!" and Stop the Fires! quests per se, but it is a major portion of the reward for the defense.

Official horde mini-icon [35] "Let the Fires Come!" is not available while the Large Jack-o'-Lantern is on the ground (it stays for several minutes after killing the Shade of the Horseman).

Official horde mini-icon [1] Stop the Fires! can only be accepted when the town is under attack.

For tips on effective firefighting, see Shade of the Horseman.
