This item starts the quest [48] Rescue OOX-09/HL!, part of the set of Oglethorpe's Homing Robots.

This is a random drop in the Hinterlands. It has been reported to drop from Vicious Owlbeasts 3.5% of the time, and about 0.5% of the time from the following:

As with many items that start quests, the drop rate may be somewhat higher than reported. Once you have completed the associated quest, it won't drop for you again, and so is not accurately represented in collected statistics.

Patch changes

Patch 1.8.4 (2005-12-06): All OOX Distress Beacons are now multi-drop; everyone in a group should be able to receive one if it drops.
