Notes[]

Deeprun rats can be found near the Ironforge Deeprun Tram Depot, and nowhere else.

The mechanics of charming a Deeprun Rat with the flute can be a bit tricky. Left click a Deeprun Rat to select it; if you right click, you will attack the Deeprun Rat and kill it instead. The Rat Catcher's Flute has limited range, you have to be close to the rat while you play the flute to charm it. Using the Rat Catcher's Flute to charm a Deeprun Rat takes a brief time, and the rat can travel out of range while you are playing the flute to cast the enthrallment, causing it to fail, so use the flute on a stopped Deeprun Rat or on a Deeprun Rat that is approaching you. If the Deeprun Rat is running away, you will probably fail to charm it.

You have to tame five Deeprun Rats, but you do not have to have five tamed when you turn the quest in. WoW tracks your number of rats tamed, to five, and should you tame a few, get a notion to play with the Rat Catcher's Flute elsewhere, and come back to complete the quest months later, you only have to catch the few more you are missing. You can tame more, and can have many Deeprun Rats following you, but you can only get credit for five, so you gain nothing extra for turning in more.

The Rat Catcher's Flute is non-functional elsewhere. The Rat Catcher's Flute must be carried in your inventory when you turn in the quest.

When done the quest tracker will say that Monty is at Lordamere Internment Camp in Alterac Mountains. This isn't correct, Monty is still at the Deeprun Tram.
