||

+ | The design for combat resurrection effects has changed a good deal for Cataclysm, and we want to make sure players are clear on how spells like Rebirth and Create Soulstone now function. Rebirth has a 10-minute cooldown and Create Soulstone has a 15-minute cooldown. On raid boss encounters, you can only use one of these combat resurrection spells (so one Rebirth or one Soulstone) per attempt for 10-player raids. For 25-player raids you can use three forms of combat resurrection per raid boss attempt (so three of any combination of Rebirth and Soulstone). The count is incremented as soon as a player accepts a resurrection, so one can always choose not to accept if he or she wants someone else to get the resurrection instead. There is no equivalent of the Sated debuff (which tracks Bloodlust/Heroism usage), but you will get an error message if you try to resurrect too many players, and we might add tracking to our raid interface if there is demand for it. Outside of raid content, you can use as many battle resurrections as you have available.<br/><br/> |

Rebirth is a druid [Resurrection] ability, the only one of its kind that can be cast while in combat. It is often referred to in game as a combatā or battleārez, or just "bārez." Unglyphed, Rebirth requires the use of a [Maple Seed], which can be purchased from any reagent vendor. Rebirth can be learned at level 20 for 34 20.
Notes
- Take note of the 30 minute cooldown (it will return to 10 minutes in a later patch.)
- While Rebirth is the only general-purpose resurrection spell that can be used in combat, other classes may have similar but more limited abilities:
- Shamans can bring themselves back to life using [Reincarnation].
- Players that die while affected by a Warlock's [Soulstone] may revive themselves.
- Patch 4.0.1 added a restriction on the number of resurrections that can occur during an encounter, whether by a druid's Rebirth, a warlock's [Soulstone], or a shaman's [Reincarnation]. Players casting these spells after the limit has been reached will see the "You can no longer resurrect during combat" error message. See below for more information.
- [Nature's Grace] can reduce the cast time of the spell, and Nature's Swiftness (druid ability) can make it instant cast.
- Casting Rebirth on a player flagged for PvP will also flag you.
- Like all other spells with a cooldown of 10 minutes or more, it cannot be used in Arenas.
Improvements
- [Glyph of Rebirth] causes Rebirth to resurrect players with 100% health.
- [Glyph of Unburdened Rebirth] makes Rebirth no longer require a reagent.
Tips and tactics
- Rebirth is an emergency ability that should only be used during combat. Use [Revive] to resurrect allies out of combat.
- Due to the long cooldown and the limited number of combat resurrections available per encounter, you should save Rebirth for critical players: tanks, healers or the group's highest-performing DPS. Coordinate with your leader, other druids, and the warlocks and shamans in the group to ensure your battle-rez is not wasted.
- Like [Bloodlust]/ [Heroism], groups will often wait until Rebirth is off cooldown before pulling a boss.
- Since the target is revived at the caster's location with little health, the druid should move to a safe area before casting and healers must be prepared to heal quickly. [Glyph of Rebirth] makes this less of an issue.

Updated Combat Resurrection Design | 2010-11-05 02:05 | Zarhym
The design for combat resurrection effects has changed a good deal for Cataclysm, and we want to make sure players are clear on how spells like Rebirth and Create Soulstone now function. Outside of raid content, you can use as many battle resurrections as you have available.
For those of you currently participating in the World of Warcraft: Cataclysm beta test, please note that this functionality may not be fully implemented as of yet. If you notice combat resurrections are not currently functioning as explained here, this is just a heads-up about the updated design intent behind them.

While not mentioned in the post, a shaman's [Reincarnation] appears to be part of the count.
