Piercing Howl is an AoE Shout debuff, that costs 10 Rage. It Dazes nearby enemies (50% Movement Speed) for 6 seconds and is unaffected by diminishing returns.
Tips and tactics
An extremely useful ability, and well worth the talent spend. It provides a rudimentary method of dealing with Runners, as unlike [Hamstring], it does not require a successful melee hit and, unlike Hamstring, can be used in defensive stance which is particularly helpful for tanks. It also offers a useful method of escaping from a fight gone bad, slowing all pursuers enough for the Warrior to get a decent head start.
Note that the only effect this has is on enemy movement. It does not do damage, or debuff enemy combat ability at all, so is of no real use during a hectic melee furball. Instead, use [Thunder Clap], which affects attack speeds as well.
Piercing Howl is safe to use around any Crowd controled opponents, precisely because it does no damage, although it is a hostile act, so will aggro any Neutral mobs in range.
Available for use in all 3 different stances and does not have any weapon requirements.
Since the ability especially dazes targets, it means that using [Heroic Strike] after Piercing Howl will produce more damage for next 6 seconds if Heroic Strikes rank is 10 or higher.
Useful when boosting, easy to grab aggro from trash and as it slows the speed, results less damage taken cause mobs can't reach the player (plus any ground speed increase makes the hall process even easier), also using [Demoralizing Shout] with it will result melee damage reduction. The last improvement would be putting full talent points in [Booming Voice] and [Improved Demoralizing Shout] increasing the range, duration and attack power reduce, even that there would be all these three different good improvements the definitely best is the range increase, since then if player uses Demoralizing Shout before Piercing Howl it will grab mobs from 5 yards more then Piercing Howl making the grabbing process faster and easier.
Ability also detects stealth just like Demoralizing Shout, Thunder Clap and [Shockwave].
While this ability was meant for PvP combat, it does have some PvE uses such as; keeping ghouls away during the quest The sacred and the Corrupt, cc'ing BloodBeasts in the fight against Deathbringer Saurfang, and delaying the ghouls in the 2nd phase of the Black Knight.
