Netherstorm is a zone in northeastern Outland consisting of several large land fragments and countless smaller shards of rock all floating in the Twisting Nether. The region is locked in a constant magical storm. The Netherstorm is in a constant state of deterioration -- the magical storm that is the zone's namesake is slowly tearing apart the fabric of reality bridging the gap between the physical world and the Twisting Nether. Magical lightning arcs across the skies within a thick haze of violet cloud and bands of pure magical energy wrap their way across the sky.

  +
"So what if I can't use the light? Undead burn just as easily."
−
Some of its wild creatures include nether rays, mana wyrms, and colossi. Several areas of the region have been influenced by goblins who perform research and experiments in the unique environment. Signs of their influence can be seen on the architecture of bridges and sign posts. They have erected a major base in the form of Area 52 on the southwestern island, and another smaller base in the east called Cosmowrench.

:- Melnok's comment to a paladin about his effectiveness against undead.

−
Five tremendous manaforges have been strategically built across the Netherstorm, siphoning mana from the Twisting Nether itself to be used to some insidious purpose by the blood elves led by Kael'thas.

  +
Melnok is a forsaken mage who worked with Argent Dawn. Melnok calls himself a 'spellblade', mixing spells in with his sword attacks. He prefers to meld his arcane spells around his sword, while raining fire down upon his foes.
−
The Netherstorm is home to two bands of ethereals named the Consortium and the Protectorate. Their main outposts are at the Stormspire and the Protectorate Watch Post respectively. Great magical domes constructed by the ethereals dominate the view from nearly any point in the region. Within these domes, the ethereals work to preserve an environment that is to the liking of their flesh-based clients.

Biography
−
The Burning Legion has also taken a stake in the zone. They have established two principle bases, Forge Base: Oblivion and Forge Base: Gehenna and have overrun the Arklon and Farahlon Ruins. Their representatives can also be found nearly anywhere that Kael'thas' blood elves exist, namely the Mana Forges spread across the region.

  +
Melnok was raised in the farms outside Dalaran, his father trained him in the way of the sword to help in the local militia. He was proud of his heritage, and was shocked to be found that he had a talent for magic. Trained to be a mage, he branched out, trying to craft a way to use what his father had taught him, and the spells he had learned at the same time. He had almost perfected the style before his death, but fortune was not with him, as he died during the the attacks on Dalaran by the Scourge. The return of his will has left him without many of his memories, so his style is currently incomplete.

  +
After being freed, he found himself in a constant fight for survival. He found himself under allied with those he once thought enemies, and under attack by the very race he once belonged to. He fought under Executor Zygand in Brill for a time, battling the Scarlet Crusade in the area, going so far as to rescue his fellow forsaken from the flame. Showing promise he was sent to aid in the defenses of the Bulwark. It was there that he first came into contact with the Argent Dawn. At first distrustful of the living, they earned his trust after coming to his aid when he came under assault by Scarlets in the plaugelands. After a few more ventures into the Plaugelands with them in toe, he found himself wearing one of the tabards himself.
−
The Eye of the Storm is a battleground that is theoretically situated within the zone.

  +
He continued to serve at the Bulwark, burning away the Scourge with the help of the paladins of the Dawn. He served until being called back into the service of the Dark Lady. Melnok found himself whisked away to serve as a guard in Venomspite. He served there for a time before the tragic events of Wrathgate, where he suddenly left his post. He appeared later in Dalaran, having found his way to the Underbelly. He began to hone his skills in the sewers, glad to be out of earshot of a rambling undead that complained about the 'ale being too weak'. Melnok bettered his skills and fought alongside Argent Crusaders in Icecrown, fighting as a champion of Undercity in the tourneys. The forsaken fought alongside the champions during the battle of Icecrown, losing his trusted blade during the battle, replacing it with a rune encrusted blade he found during the siege.

History
−
The region of Netherstorm was a verdant open range called the Fields of Farahlon until Draenor was ripped apart by Ner'zhul's dimensional portals. . It used to be where the Laughing Skull Clan had their holdings, but when the Dark Portal collapsed, the land was torn apart, and is now a series of suspended islands floating loosely in the Twisting Nether. The problem has been further exacerbated by the Mana Forges. The more pure energy the Forges produce, the more unstable the region becomes. If the Forges are not dealt with soon, the entirety of Outland may be completely destroyed.

Post Cataclysm
−
Worldofwarcraft.com says the following about the Netherstorm:

  +
After his return to Undercity, Melnok was court-marshaled for abandoning his post at Venomspite, and was imprisoned for a time before Deathwing's return. Melnok was later released to serve with the Deathguards again during the battle for Gilneas. He served under Field Commander Onslaught at first, but was wounded during the wrogen counter attack. Melnok recovered enough to take part in the slaughter of Ambermill, but took no joy in slaying his former kin. After the final battle, Melnok remain with the Deathguards in Silverpine for a time, but later put on leave by one of his commanders.
−
The region of Netherstorm was a verdant open range called the Fields of Farahlon until Draenor was ripped apart. Normally imperceptible to mortals, the Twisting Nether bled into the physical realm and unleashed a tumultuous arcane storm that warped the surrounding territory. The blood elves are now using the technology of a captured naaru vessel to harness the storm's magic, further compromising the already unstable land.

  +
Abilities
  +
Melnok is a self titled Spellblade, a blend of magics and swordplay. He focuses on arcane and fire magics, having found frost spells to be ineffective against undead. He prefers to place his arcane spells into his sword, where his fire spells have a habit to burn him while in the blade. While he doesn't use frost for offense, he wears his frost magics like armor. But because of his memory loss, his style sometimes can backfire on him, the spells jumping at him instead of his foes. His sword skills, while strong, suffer from his weakened strength.

−
Geography
+
Post Cataclysm
  +
Melnok refined his style after his time in prison, now able to plant spells into his weapon without worry of a backfire. His lack of frost spells still hamper's his fighting capabilities, but he tries to use his skill with a blade to cover for those failings.
−
The region known as the Netherstorm is comprised of the lands situated on seven relatively large floating islands and thousands of smaller rock fragments interspersed amongst them, which are the remnants of the once-lush Fields of Farahlon. The original color of the rock is unknown, but since the deterioration of the land began, the bedrock and soil have assumed a sickly purple color that supports absolutely no plant life (barring netherbloom). As the original land mass was ripped apart and warped into its current state, great fissures opened and jagged, lopsided spires and platforms of rock were thrust upward. Like many other regions of Outland, great floating islands hover unnaturally above the landscape, some found spinning listlessly hundreds of feet above the surface.

  +
Personality
−
By land, the Netherstorm can only be entered by crossing the goblin-built Gyro-Plank Bridge which spans the gap between the eastern border of the Blade's Edge Mountains and the Netherstorm's westernmost island. A short hike down the road from the bridge leads to the goblin outpost of Area 52 where the goblins under Rocket-Chief Fuselage work to perfect their nether rocket technology.

  +
Melnok is a nice enough individual, if a bit cold to living(Note that this does not apply to those of the Argent Crusade, whom he sees as brothers in arms.). He prides himself on being a calm in times of stress, although that calmness comes off with him finding humor in situations. Melnok is loyal to those that have earned his trust, willing to put his body on the line for his allies. His dislike of living is dwarfed by his hate of the Scourge, whom he attempts to obliterate any time he comes across. It's because of this hate of the Scourge that he distrusts the Knights of the Ebon Blade. Due to his combat with them in Gilneas, Melnok has developed a hatred for the Alliance, worgen in particular after watching them rip so many of his comrades apart.

Quotes
Several draenei ruins also populate the region. The Ruins of Enkaat lie to the northwest of Area 52 and are inhabited by the restless spirits of fallen draenei who once lived there. The Arklon Ruins further to the east are inhabited by demons of the Burning Legion hunting for draenei artifacts of power. In the far north of the Netherstorm lie the Ruins of Farahlon, also infested with powerful demons.

The Burning Legion has several holding in the region in addition to the draenei ruins. Forge Bases: Gehenna and Oblivion, dedicated to the construction of monstrous Fel Reavers see scores of demons working furiously to construct the reavers. Invasion Point: Overlord and Invasion Point: Destroyer are sites dedicated to the summoning of powerful demonic reinforcements. The Legion's commander in the region, Socrethar, has taken over the entirety of the smallest of the major islands in the northwest. The island has gained the name Socrethar's Seat as a result.

:— Koren Vile
  +
Koren is a warlock in the service of the Legion. He was in the service of the Alliance for many years, but joined the Legion after being promised test subjects for his experiments by a fellow servant of the Legion. Although allowed to experiment on the lesser cultist, he yearns for the day that he will be free to chose from all the enslaved races.
  +
Biography
  +
Koren was born an raised in Dalaran years before the First War. Raised to be a mage, he abandoned his normal training in favor of fel magics. His training came to a stop however came to an end just after he had mastered the ability to summon his first demon, the Imp known as Dragtai. After causing an incident with other students, he left the city, leaving behind his family and life.

  +
Koren appeared years later in army records as a medic serving in the Alliance during the Third War. He had become an accomplished doctor in his time away from the magic city, most traces of his training had apparently left him. Records show that he was forced to retire from the service after several suspicious bodies kept on appearing around Koren. Again he disappeared into the shadows of history.
−
On the northeastern side of the northeast island lies the Celestial Ridge, a great forest of arcane crystals and nesting grounds for a large number of nether dragons of the Netherwing faction. On the eastern side of the southernmost island is the human settlement Kirin'Var Village. Built as a base for many of the Kirin Tor mages that came through the Dark Portal at the conclusion of the Second War, it is now inhabited only by ghosts and strange magical apparitions.

  +
He later appeared in Stormwind after the war, serving as a free doctor to the poor in the city. He was forced to leave after, again, several incidents began to be involved around him. After one too many chopped up bodies were found in near his clinic, the guards stormed it only to find Koren gone. Further investigation found that while many of the people dead had visited his clinic, there were no signs that they had been killed there.
−
One of the most notable features of the land are the five Manaforges scattered across the floating archipelago. Constructed by the forces of Kael'thas using naaru technology discovered in Tempest Keep, these abominable devices provide a potent source of arcane power to fuel Kael's insidious plans. Of the five, four of the Manaforges (Ara, Coruu, B'naar, and Duro) are operational and garrisoned by the Sunfury blood elves and a scattering of the Legion's demons. The fifth; Manaforge Ultris, has been destroyed and infested by shadowy void creatures. Two rival ethereal bands: the Ethereum and the Protectorate, vie for the rights to the potential profits that might be reaped from such a disaster. Great tube-like conduits that span the region channel the energies amassed by the Manaforges to Kael's seat of Tempest Keep in the east.

  +
Koren later appeared in alongside Burning Legion forces in Felwood, his warlock powers restored, and his body apparently aged by some form of magic. When asked about it his change in age, Koren only stated that demons must like the youth of the world. He served as the main medic of the camp, along with leading the cultists against adventurer attacks.
−
Finally, in the central and northern regions of the Netherstorm are the holdings of the ethereals of the Consortium. There they have constructed massive arcane domes inside of which they have engineered conditions favorable to plants and animals that could never survive in the Netherstorm otherwise. Known as Eco-Domes, they serve as lush oases in the arcane desert surrounding them. The southernmost, Midrealm, is home to creatures such as lynx, moths, and crocolisks. To the immediate north is the largest in the region, consisting of three conjoined eco-domes. Eco-domes Sutheron and Skyperch flank the Stormspire to the north and south. Adopting a series of draenei ruins atop a tall cliff, the ethereals have made the Stormspire the center of all Consortium activity in the Netherstorm and indeed in all of Outland. North of the Stormspire is the smallest of the domes, Eco-Dome Farfield. It is uninhabited by ethereals, but is home to several varieties of exotic dinosaurs.

Koren's warlock abilities are limited in variety, consisting of only fire spells, a crippling curse, and his ability to drain souls from his victims. His skills at summoning demons is exclusive to his imp Dragtai, the felsteed Flamehoof, and the infernal Immolatus. Koren's lack of magical power is covered by his vast knowledge of medicine and alchemy, and after experimenting on his own body he had built up immunities to some toxins and poisons. He wields a sword in close combat that drains the life of his foes and pulls it into himself.

Koren is friendly for a servant of the Burning Legion, as he doesn't have the whole 'burn the world' mentality of his fellow cultists, and generally well liked. He has a cruel sense of humor when it comes to pain, treating wounds in rather painful ways, such as cauterizing wounds when a simple bandage would have done the job. While calm in camp, he is utterly brutal to those that would stand in the way of his friends and goals. He feels that the world is in a constant flow of chaos, and he wishes to understand more through his work.

Outside of the Legion camps, he portrays himself as a kindly traveling doctor, and although this might be an act, the rumor is that this is an entirely different personality entirely. The doctor side of his is a kind and caring individual, carefree and easily distracted if the subject changes to a field he has expertise in. Only a few from the Legion camps have meet Koren while he is traveling the world, but few even realize it is the same cruel man known as Vile.

Lurdukmun(Lur for short) was born in the internment camps just after the closing of the Portal. He was raise being told of the glory of his clan, and the might of legendary orcs like Orgrim Doomhammer and Kilrogg. He grew up only knowing the camps and the stories, he found himself adept at stealing and lying. His parents passed years later, he was left with only his two brothers Brutu and Dazel. When Doomhammer and Thrall began to liberate the camps, Lur served under their banner as a scout while his brothers served as grunts. He continued to serve under their new Horde, utilizing his quick wits to quickly and silently slay the foes of the Horde.

Lur faithfully followed the Horde during the events of the Third War, utilizing his skills as a scout to spy on enemies, although he wasn't against charging into combat when the opportunity presented itself. After the war, he and his brothers found themselves without direction. Lur continued his training for years after the building of Orgrimmar. Without a new foe to fight, Lur found himself at odds with his trainers, his temper and confidence getting the better of him.

Not wishing to go back to Orgrimmar in shame, he stayed with the Deathstalkers, attempting to learn some of their tactics. He trained under Mouia, becoming less prone to outbursts of anger, at least to his superiors. His training complete, he returned back to Cleft of Shadow to complete his training as a Spymaster. He trained there for two more years before being given the title of Shade, and being sent out into the world to eliminate threats to the Horde.

Lur is a spymaster, he's an assassin, a thief, and a liar all rolled into one. While he can preform many tasks, his focus is truly on infiltration. He normally uses two short blades in combat, and prefers to out think his foes to defeat them. Lur has a knack for finding the info he is sent after, although many times he has to improvise to get the information he needs. He is able to change his outward appearance like that of any spymaster, but the facade falters when he loses his focus. During times of war, he switches into heavier leather and wields twin magical daggers.

"So what if I can't use the light? Undead burn just as easily."

- Melnok's comment to a paladin about his effectiveness against undead.

Melnok is a forsaken mage who worked with Argent Dawn. Melnok calls himself a 'spellblade', mixing spells in with his sword attacks. He prefers to meld his arcane spells around his sword, while raining fire down upon his foes.

Biography

Melnok was raised in the farms outside Dalaran, his father trained him in the way of the sword to help in the local militia. He was proud of his heritage, and was shocked to be found that he had a talent for magic. Trained to be a mage, he branched out, trying to craft a way to use what his father had taught him, and the spells he had learned at the same time. He had almost perfected the style before his death, but fortune was not with him, as he died during the the attacks on Dalaran by the Scourge. The return of his will has left him without many of his memories, so his style is currently incomplete.

Post Cataclysm

After his return to Undercity, Melnok was court-marshaled for abandoning his post at Venomspite, and was imprisoned for a time before Deathwing's return. Melnok was later released to serve with the Deathguards again during the battle for Gilneas. He served under Field Commander Onslaught at first, but was wounded during the wrogen counter attack. Melnok recovered enough to take part in the slaughter of Ambermill, but took no joy in slaying his former kin. After the final battle, Melnok remain with the Deathguards in Silverpine for a time, but later put on leave by one of his commanders.

Abilities

Melnok is a self titled Spellblade, a blend of magics and swordplay. He focuses on arcane and fire magics, having found frost spells to be ineffective against undead. He prefers to place his arcane spells into his sword, where his fire spells have a habit to burn him while in the blade. While he doesn't use frost for offense, he wears his frost magics like armor. But because of his memory loss, his style sometimes can backfire on him, the spells jumping at him instead of his foes. His sword skills, while strong, suffer from his weakened strength.

Post Cataclysm

Melnok refined his style after his time in prison, now able to plant spells into his weapon without worry of a backfire. His lack of frost spells still hamper's his fighting capabilities, but he tries to use his skill with a blade to cover for those failings.

Personality

Quotes

 • "They can't get back up if they're cinders..." (Said to fellow Deathguards of the Bulwark about undead)
 • "Oh come on, I just got this sword during my last life!" (Stated after breaking his sword against Scourge)
 • "Come on I'm a Spellblade! what do you mean that doesn't exist?" (Argument with Dalaran Magi)

Koren Vile

Koren Vile

Title <Doctor>
Race Human (Humanoid)
Class Warlock
Affiliation(s) Burning Legion
Occupation Warlock of the Burning Legion
Location Felwood
Status Alive
Companion(s) Dragtai(Imp), Flamehoof(Felsteed), Immolatus(Infernal)
"Chaos, it is the only absolute in this world and all others. A friend of mine taught me that. That is why I serve the Legion"
— Koren Vile

Koren is a warlock in the service of the Legion. He was in the service of the Alliance for many years, but joined the Legion after being promised test subjects for his experiments by a fellow servant of the Legion. Although allowed to experiment on the lesser cultist, he yearns for the day that he will be free to chose from all the enslaved races.

Biography

Koren was born an raised in Dalaran years before the First War. Raised to be a mage, he abandoned his normal training in favor of fel magics. His training came to a stop however came to an end just after he had mastered the ability to summon his first demon, the Imp known as Dragtai. After causing an incident with other students, he left the city, leaving behind his family and life.

DemonFormKoren

Koren's metamorphosis

Abilities

Koren's warlock abilities are limited in variety, consisting of only fire spells, a crippling curse, and his ability to drain souls from his victims. His skills at summoning demons is exclusive to his imp Dragtai, the felsteed Flamehoof, and the infernal Immolatus. Koren's lack of magical power is covered by his vast knowledge of medicine and alchemy, and after experimenting on his own body he had built up immunities to some toxins and poisons. He wields a sword in close combat that drains the life of his foes and pulls it into himself.

He has a metamorphosis of sorts, but instead of the regular from most warlocks take, he imitates an infernal in form, his face becoming a mocking burning skull. While in this form his fire abilities are empowered, but he suffers from a weakness to water and extreme cold.

A fantastic doctor, can be a bit chop happy if not reminded that his goal is to save the life of his patients. Koren has a wide knowledge of medicine and poisons and their effects on the body. While undercover, he becomes more reliant on his alchemy for survival, and fights with his sword. He uses his alchemy to change his looks, dying his hair and making himself appear younger.

Personality

Quotes

 • "You can trust me, after all, I'm a doctor" (Reply when called untrustworthy)
 • "Here drink this....you might feel a small bit of pain" (Patient screamed loudly afterword)
 • "Ahh a sprained toe? I call for an amputation!" (Koren joking with a cultist)
 • "Can't have you die just yet, I'm not done studying you!" (Koren speaking with a patient)
 • "I honestly don't have time for this, my experiments need my attention" (Said during a battle against adventurers)
 • "Scorch, Burn, Immolate! Come Immolatus! Destroy the enemies of the Legion!" (Summoning Immolatus the infernal)

Title <Shade>
Race Orc (Humanoid)
Class Spymaster
Affiliation(s) Bleeding Hollow Clan
Occupation Spy
Location Orgrimmar
Status Alive
Relative(s) Brutu & Dazel (Brothers)
Mentor(s) Mouia
"Oh yeah? I'll put you to sleep soon enough! I'll savor that moment when it comes!"
— Lurdukmun, yelling at an escaping target.

Lurdukmun is a Bleeding Hollow orc that serves as a spy for the Horde. He is overconfident in his abilities as a spy, claiming to be trained by the best, thus making him the best. A bit of a hothead, he takes pride in serving the new Horde.

Biography

When the Forsaken joined the Horde, Lur was quick to leave to test the power of the Horde's new allies. He foolishly challenged a female Deathstalker named Mouia, who was quick to put him in his place using rather questionable tactics.
