Meeting Stones, also known as Summoning Stones, are very large thumb-shaped stones with a mystical, glowing symbol that appear next to instanced dungeons. Originally, they were for filling in partial (or just-starting) parties whose members met the required level range by auto-inviting suitable candidates. Later, the option was added to enter a Meeting Stone queue for a dungeon whose level requirements you met by talking to any innkeeper.

In Patch 2.0.1, the Meeting Stones were reworked with the implementation of the new LFG System. They now are used to summon party members to the stone near an instance. One player targets a faraway player, and clicks the Meeting Stone, creating a portal. When a second player clicks the portal, the targeted player is given a summoning dialogue very similar to the Warlock Summon spell.

Note that the summoner and the person being summoned must both meet the suggested level range for the dungeon for the stone to be usable. The second person, who clicks on the portal to finalize the summon, can be of any level.

As of Patch 4.0.3a locksmiths still restore Skeleton Key, The Violet Hold Key, Key to the Arcatraz, Shattered Halls Key, and Shadowforge Key. This is a bug, as these keys are supposed to be removed. They will disappear from your keyring upon logging out.

NOTE: On PvP servers, several Meeting Stone areas are very popular ambush points. E.g., Alliance attempting to use the SM Meeting Stone in Horde territory and close to an occasionally highly trafficked instance will frequently find themselves ganged up on. This depends on server population, levels, and the social norms of the server. Enjoy.

As of Patch 4.0.3a locksmiths still restore Inv misc key 11 [Skeleton Key], Inv misc key 02 [The Violet Hold Key], Inv datacrystal03 [Key to the Arcatraz], Inv misc key 02 [Shattered Halls Key], and Inv misc key 08 [Shadowforge Key]. This is a bug, as these keys are supposed to be removed. They will disappear from your keyring upon logging out.
