Mana Tide Totem is a totem that restores 24% of the maximum mana of party members within 30 yards. When used in a group of casters it is one of the most powerful mana restoring abilities in the game, and it used to be the trademark ability of restoration shamans.

Notes
Mana Tide Totem is a Water totem, and thus cannot be used at the same time as another water totem. Like all shaman totems it only has 5 hit points and is easily targeted and destroyed. Unlike many other totems, Mana Tide Totem only affects the shaman's own group and not the whole raid.
Mana Tide Totem restores a total of 24% of the maximum mana for everyone in the party. The mana is not split between group members, so it is more useful the more mana users there are in the party.
The totem pulses every three seconds, starting three seconds after it is cast, so if the totem is destroyed within the first three seconds it will not restore any mana. This greatly reduces the totem's usefulness in PvP, as its characteristic pulsing animation is easy to spot.
Since the totem 'pulses' out mana rather than applying a buff to the party members, the totem effectively stacks with itself when multiple Restoration shamans in the same group are using it.
Talent improvement
- [Totemic Focus] reduces the mana cost of casting the totem by 25%.
- [Ancestral Knowledge] effectively increases the amount of mana the caster gains from his own Mana Tide Totem by increasing Intellect and thus maximum mana.
Tips and tactics
The totem only affects the shaman's party, so in a raid the raid leader or a raid assistant can move casters who are low on mana to the shaman's group before the totem is used.
If you know that a fight will last more than 6–7 minutes you can use Mana Tide Totem early on to ensure that you will be able to use it a second time near the end of the fight.
Let your group members know when you are using Mana Tide Totem, to make sure they don't use mana potions or other mana returning abilities at the same time, as the totem will not restore any mana to a target that is already at full mana.
If you can see what buffs party members have and you are the only shaman in the group, you can check if your group members will be in range of the totem by placing a Mana Spring or Healing Stream totem at your current position. If someone in the group does not get the buff then you may want to move in range of them or tell them to get closer to where you are. Even one missed tick is a significant amount of mana lost.
Patch changes
- Patch 3.2.0 (2009-08-04): Totem health now equal to 10% of the shaman's health.
