The Maiden of Virtue is a stone giant Boss in the Guest Chambers wing of Karazhan. She is, ironically, being the Maiden of Virtue, put behind the rooms full of ladies of the night. The Maiden is optional; it is not necessary to kill her in order to reach other bosses.

Strategy
Strategy
−
The Maiden of Virtue does not have phases in her fight. She behaves the same from the start of the fight to the end.

  +
Raid composition
−
The Maiden uses all her abilities at random, not on a strict timer. For example, when the Repentance cooldown is over, she does not always cast it immediately; it just means that it's possible for her to cast it. However, she does not cast Holy Fire while Repentance is active.

  +
*1 (3 in 25man) Flyboy gets 3 Molten Feathers and attacks Alysrazor in the air.
−
Wipes occur at this boss for mainly two reasons - either the tank dies while the healers are incapacitated from a Repentance, or too many raid members die from Holy Fire. A wipe is also possible due to poor positioning which leads to a chained Holy Wrath. Once these risks are managed correctly, this is a fairly easy fight.

  +
*1 spare healer picks up healing slack throughout the raid while not getting strafed by Alysrazor.
  +
*2 teams of tanks, heals and dps. Each team is assigned one half of the arena divided by Alysrazor's strafing lane.

−
Positioning
+
initial pull
−
Correct positioning of the raid is the key here, healer positioning in particular. Ranged and healers should be far enough away from the Maiden to be outside of the Holy Ground attack. At the same time, the whole raid needs to be in range and sight of a dispeller and be spread out far enough to avoid chaining Holy Wrath. These requirements are easily matched with the following setup:

  +
The first pull of the night will require a player to get Fandral's
−
There are eight pillars around the room. Put one non-melee raid member at the outside wall in each gap between two pillars. Place the healers next to each other. Melee and tank can start wherever they like.

  +
attention. Fandral will then pull all players to a single spot and root
  +
them while he monologues.

  +
When Alysrazor spawns she will cast Firestorm (30K damage plus a
−
Tank her in the center of the room, right where she stands. After the pull, the raid members all move to their assigned gap between the pillars, and take exactly one step up the stair leading to her. This puts the whole raid in LoS, healing and dispel range of each other, but far enough apart to prevent the Holy Wrath from hitting more than the melee group.

  +
knockback, followed by 100K of DoT). The raid should move southeast
  +
to get out of the strafing path, then group up for AoE heals.

  +
Second and later pulls are triggered by touching the single feather at
−
Instead of standing between the pillars, it's just as good if the raid members stand with their backs to the pillars. Just synchronize so that everybody takes the left (or right) pillar, and no two people end up using the same one.

  +
northeast end of the battlefield. Players will not be relocated by
  +
Fandral this time, so before touching the feathers, players should
  +
group up near the "front" of the battlefield (toward the flame cavern
  +
containing Alysrazor) but outside of the strafing path (southeast is
  +
traditional). If you are too close to the "back" of the battlefield,
  +
Firestorm will knock you into the Volcanic Fire and you will probably
  +
die. After the knockback, stay grouped up for AoE heals.

−
Repentance
+
Phase 1
−
There are several ways to survive Repentance:

−
* A paladin healer casts and refreshes Blessing of Sacrifice (rank 1) on any melee character to constantly take damage, breaking the effect.

−
* A paladin uses Divine Shield to dispel repentance, then heals. This is usable only once per paladin.

−
* A healer (preferably one which cannot dispel) moves into the Holy Ground after the Repentance cooldown is over. Since it can take a while until she casts Repentance, this may effectively take the healer out of the combat for a while (due to the silence effect). This also increases the danger from a chained Holy Wrath. After she casts Repentance, the healer moves out of Holy Ground and resumes healing.

−
* The tank moves the Maiden towards a healer, to wake up the healer with damage from Holy Ground.

−
* The tank is loaded with HoT spells.

−
* The tank uses cooldown moves such as Last Stand, Shield Wall, potions, healthstones, and Nightmare Seeds.

−
* Melee damage-dealers that can heal (cat druids, retribution paladins, and enhancement shamans) run out to heal during Repentance.

−
All of these methods work well, and they work better in combination with each other.

  +
Alysrazor will fly along the strafing path while casting Blazing Claw.
−
Holy Fire
  +
Don't get clawed. This strafing run will be repeated a few times during

  +
phase 1, so if you must enter the strafing lane (to collect feathers
  +
or switch sides) do not tarry.

  +
In her wake Molten Feathers will be dropped. Each healer should grab
−
The easiest method to deal with Holy Fire is to have Grounding Totems up. With an alert Shaman and a little luck this one totem can absorb all Holy Fires targeted at that group. With one shaman in each group the fight actually becomes quite easy. Grounding totems have a limited range, so positions must be assigned carefully to make sure that everyone in the group is protected.

one for the speed buff and the ability to cast while moving.

  +
The flyboy(s) (good classes for this role are Fire Mages, Spriests, Aff locks and Fury warriors) should grab 3 feathers to gain

−
* Warlocks' Spellstone

−
* Mages' Ice Block

−
* Rogues' Cloak of Shadows

  +
DPS and interruptors' first priority is the Blazing Talon Initiate.
−
Holy Fire can also be spell reflected.

  +
Brushfire can not be interrupted. Fieroblast must be interrupted.
  +
A missed interrupt gives the initiate a buff that speeds up later
  +
casts, making it eventually impossible to interrupt every fieroblast.
  +
The sooner you can kill the initiate, the sooner you can plink at the
  +
hatchlings. Be on the look-out for replacement initiates that spawn
  +
throughout the fight.

  +
Tanks have to pick up the Voracious Hatchlings. The player standing
−
Healers and dispellers must be very alert to deal with Holy Fire. Every raid member needs to be topped off at all times, and Holy Fires must be dispelled as quickly as possible. This cannot be stressed enough, as it is the most important aspect of the fight: Dispel as quickly as possible. Unless someone would die, cancel the spell you're currently casting to dispel immediately, so you spend less time and mana healing Holy Fire victims. Some raids place two dedicated dispellers on opposite sides of the room.

  +
closest to each hatchling will be Imprinted and aggro is permanent
  +
until that player dies. Only the tank should be close enough to
  +
become Imprinted. Imprinted also gives the tank +1000% damage. Tanks
  +
are expected to do the majority of the damage against the hatchlings.

  +
Hatchlings start out Satiated, but rather quickly convert to Hungry.
−
Holy Fire deals fire damage (not holy), thus Major Fire Protection Potions are useful.

  +
While Hungry every time they land a blow there's a 20% chance to
  +
convert to Tantrum. When the hatchling throws a tantrum the tank
  +
should quickly kite it (strafing is preferable to backpedaling) into a
  +
Plump Lava Worm. Try not to walk through the Lava Spew. This is also
  +
a good time to pick up two Molten Feathers to get the speed buff.
  +
Don't pick up 3, or you will be launched into the air (and risk having
  +
the hatchling imprint on another player).

  +
Worms spawn shortly after the Hatchlings emerge from their eggs.
−
This is the first fight since Chromaggus where dispelling debuffs is critical. Priests and paladins that are new to this fight usually have some initial difficulty dispelling fast enough to avoid wipes. This is normal, so be patient. Once they have a little practice and figure it out, though, the Maiden is a fairly easy fight.

  +
There is an initial wave of four and after a set period of time,
  +
another four spawn. Tanks should memorize the spawn points of the
  +
worms so that they do not spawn under a hatchling (and "waste" a
  +
tantrum suppression opportunity). The worms can be divided between
  +
the two tanks using the strafing path as the dividing line (although
  +
the second wave of worms has ones very close to the strafing path that
  +
can cause confusion over dibs for tanks-in-training). Each tank can
  +
expect to have the use of four worms during phase 1, although the
  +
chaos of battle can mess this up.

  +
It is not unusual to suffer a tantrum while there are no worms

*Melee should stand at the edge of Maiden's hit box, as far from each other as possible (forming a triangle or square around her). Holy Protection potions help diminish damage taken by melee significantly, and are recommended over health pots.

  +
understand that a player afflicted by this will bleed until they reach
  +
half health, or until 60 seconds pass. Trying to top off a player
  +
afflicted by this DoT is probably a waste of mana. Wait until they
  +
bleed down to 50% health and then heal them.
  +
  +
Do not let a worm spin its Lava Spew onto you. It causes 40K damage /
  +
second.
  +
  +
Phase 2
  +
  +
Hatchlings and worms should be dead at the beginning of phase 2. A
  +
skilled tank can dodge tornados and tank the hatchling, but it is
  +
rather difficult and healers are too busy dodging tornados to cast
  +
more heals.
  +
  +
Phase 2 is a brutal frogger minigame. The center of the arena and the
  +
outer edge of the arena are death zones because of the Harsh Winds
  +
AoE. In between there is a zone of less death filled with orbiting
  +
Fiery Tornados.
  +
  +
Experienced players will perceive that there are well-defined circular
  +
concentric lanes. Each lane is populated by tornados moving in the
  +
same direction at the same speed. Adjacent lanes have tornados moving
  +
in the opposite direction. Tornados move faster than players can run
  +
(even if they have Molten Feathers), so players must change lanes to
  +
avoid damage.
  +
  +
The simplest tactic is to chase a tornado in a single lane until a tornado
  +
passes you going in the opposite direction. Immediately change lanes
  +
and change directions to pursue the opposing tornado. If you were to
  +
stay in the same lane too long, a tornado would overtake you, but by
  +
changing lanes you are able to avoid this. It is possible to allow
  +
two tornados to pass in the adjacent lane and then change lanes while still avoiding being steamrolled by
  +
the pursuing tornado.
  +
  +
Phase 3
  +
  +
Alysrazor falls to the center of the arena, exhausted. All DPS and
  +
healers should begin blasting Alysrazor to take advantage of Essence
  +
of the Green (and the bonus damage of phase 3). Group up so you can avoid taking a cleave in Phase 4.
  +
  +
The two tanks must move to their assigned sides and interrupt the Ignition cast by Blazing Talon
  +
Clawshapers. Interrupting Ignition delays Alysrazor's revival. The cast interval on
  +
Ignition is such that pure interrupts aren't enough. The tanks should first use an interrupt, then a
  +
stun, then another interrupt. The fourth ignition is of no
  +
consequence because even with good interrupts Alysrazor will be reignited
  +
by her own Spark. After the third interrupt a tank should move into
  +
position to tank phase 4.
  +
  +
Phase 4
  +
  +
When Alysrazor reaches 50 energy she reactivates. A tank should taunt
  +
and immediately build threat. Alysrazor will perform Blazing Claw, a
  +
cleave that stacks a debuff on the tank. All DPS should already be
  +
grouped up behind Alysrazor. The second tank should take care not to
  +
be in the cone of Blazing Claw. Healers should be able to keep a
  +
single tank alive through 11 or 12 stacks of Blazing Claw (and tanks
  +
using a minor cooldown to reduce the damage helps) Once Alysrazor
  +
reaches 100 energy she will take to the air and return to Phase 1.
  +
  +
One notable exception is that if Alysrazor is pushed beneath 20%
  +
health during phase 4, she will become permanently grounded. This
  +
means the tank will continue suffering Blazing Claws. If the second
  +
tank does not taunt, the first tank will become unhealable. The
  +
second tank must not taunt from within the DPS pack, or they will
  +
suffer Blazing Claw as well, quickly leading to a wipe. The ideal
  +
configuration is to Triangulate the raid so that tanks can trade
  +
off as their Blazing Claw stacks fall off.
  +
  +
Normally phase 4 will usually end with Alysrazor taking flight. She will leave
  +
behind a pile of Molten Feathers which should be used by the healers
  +
and the flyboy.
  +
  +
afterword
  +
  +
If the flyboy has learned how to DPS and stay flying, and the raid is
  +
able to focus during phase 3, a properly geared raid can expect to
  +
kill Alysrazor in the air during phase 1 of the third cycle.
  +
Undergeared raids who can compensate with skill will take longer.
  +
  +
This fight is mostly about control and survival. If you have people
  +
dying, you need more power or more practice.

Gender Female
Race Fire hawk
Level ?? Boss
Location Firelands
"Are you ready to fly the fiery skies? Catch her singed feathers and use them to soar above the inferno, or perish at the whim of this swift fire hawk.[1]

When Ragnaros's Forces surged into Mount Hyjal, Alysra betrayed her allies and helped liberate the traitorous archdruid Fandral Staghelm[2]. As a reward, she was purified with fire and reborn as a fearsome fire hawk.[3][4]

Abilities

  • Spell shaman stormearthfire Firestorm — At the beginning of the battle Alysrazor ascends into the sky, inflicting 30000 Fire damage to players and knocking them back. Alysrazor continues to inflict 10001 Fire damage to players every 1 sec. for 10 sec.
  • Spell fire incinerate Volcanic Fire — A massive eruption creates patches of Fire which block escape from Alysrazor's domain. Volcanic Fire patches inflict 100000 Fire damage to players within 6 yards every 1 sec.

Stage One: I Will Burn You From the Sky!

Alysrazor flies around the arena, allowing her minions to corner her foes far below. She periodically flies through the center of the arena to claw at foes.

  • Spell fire flameblades Blazing Claw — Alysrazor claws her way through the center of the arena, inflicting 100000 Physical damage to enemies in a 25 yard long 90 degree cone every 1.5 seconds. Each swipe also increases the Fire and Physical damage dealt to the target by 10% for 15 sec.
  • On heroic mode, Blazing Claw is replaced with Firestorm:
    • Spell shaman stormearthfire Firestorm Heroic Difficulty — Alysrazor faces the center of the arena and kicks up a powerful, fiery wind. After 5 seconds the arena is bathed in flames, inflicting 100000 Fire damage every 1 seconds to all players within line of sight for 10 sec.
  • Inv feather 16 Molting — Alysrazor molts, creating Molten Feathers nearby.
    • Spell fire burningspeed Molten Feather Damage Dealer Alert Important — Players can pick up to three Molten Feathers. While holding a Molten Feather, all spells can be cast while moving and movement speed increases by 30% per feather. Once a player obtains three Molten Feathers, they gain Wings of Flame.
      • Inv shoulder leather firelandsdruid d 01 Wings of Flame — The Wings of Flame allow the player to fly for 20 sec.
  • Flying — Players with Wings of Flame contend with additional elements of the battle.
    • Spell fire incinerate Blazing Power — Alysrazor periodically creates rings of fire which last for 3 seconds. Players passing through the ring gain Blazing Power, increasing haste by 4%. This effect stacks up to 25 times. Each stack of Blazing Power restores mana, rage, energy, runic power, and holy power, and refreshes the duration of Wings of Flame.
    • Ability warlock fireandbrimstone Alysra's Razor — If a player gains 25 stacks of Blazing Power, they gain Alysra's Razor. This increases the player's critical strike chance by 50% for 30 sec.
    • Spell fire incinerate Incendiary Cloud — Alysrazor periodically creates an increasing number of Incendiary Clouds lasting for 3 seconds. Players that pass through the cloud suffer 50000 Fire damage every 1.5 sec. In Heroic Difficulty, Alysrazor always creates three Incindiary Clouds.
  • Blazing Talon Initiate — Blazing Talon Initiates periodically fly in to assist Alysrazor in defeating enemy forces on the ground.
    • Spell shaman firenova Brushfire — The Blazing Talon Initiate conjures a fiery ball that moves across the arena, inflicting 40000 damage every 1 sec to players within 4 yards.
    • Spell fire fireball02 Fieroblast Interruptible Magic Effect — The Blazing Talon Initiate hurls a fiery boulder at an enemy, inflicting 40000 Fire damage and 10000 Fire damage every 3 seconds for 12 sec.
    • Achievement firelands raid ragnaros Fire it Up! — When a Blazing Talon Initiate casts Fieroblast, they gain a stack of Fire it Up! This effect increases the Initiate's damage dealt by 10% and casting speed by 10%.
    • Ability warrior shieldmastery Blazing Shield Heroic Difficulty — The Blazing Talon Initiate calls upon a familiar flame for protection from Alysrazor's Firestorm.
  • Voracious Hatchling Tank Alert — Early in Stage 1, two Blazing Broodmothers drop off two Molten Eggs. After several seconds the eggs hatch into Voracious Hatchlings. Voracious Hatchlings throw a Tantrum if not fed Plump Lava Worms.
    • Spell brokenheart Imprinted — Upon hatching, Voracious Hatchlings imprint on the nearest player. The hatchling only attacks that player, but they gain 1000% additional damage against the hatchling.
    • Spell misc emotionhappy Satiated — The Voracious Hatchling will not throw a Tantrum when Satiated, which lasts for 15 sec. Voracious Hatchlings hatch Satiated, and can become Satiated again if a player feeds them Plump Lava Worms.
    • Spell misc emotionsad Hungry — A Voracious Hatchling that is no longer Satiated becomes Hungry. When Hungry, hatchlings have a 20% chance on hit to throw a Tantrum.
    • Spell misc emotionangry Tantrum — The Voracious Hatchling throws a Tantrum, increasing damage dealt by 100% and haste by 100%.
    • Ability warrior bloodnova Gushing Wound Healer Alert — The Voracious Hatchling strikes all targets within a 10 yard 60 degree cone, causing them to bleed for 3000 Physical damage every 0.2 seconds for 1 min. or until the target's health falls below 50% of their maximum health.
  • Plump Lava Worm Tank Alert — During Stage 1, two sets of four Plump Lava Worms erupt from the molten ground. Players cannot attack Plump Lava Worms. Voracious Hatchlings near a Plump Lava Worm rush to devour it, becoming Satiated.
    • Spell shaman lavasurge Lava Spew — Plump Lava Worms spew a molten cone of fire, dealing 40000 damage every 1 sec to all enemies within a 18 yard 35 degree cone.
  • Herald of the Burning End Heroic Difficulty — During Stage 1, a Herald of the Burning End periodically appears and begins casting Cataclysm. The Herald is immune to all damage, but dies when he casts Cataclysm.
    • Spell shadow rainoffire Cataclysm Heroic Difficulty — The Herald of the Burning End summons a powerful Molten Meteor, inflicting 500000 Flamestrike damage to enemies within 5 yards.
      • Spell shaman lavaburst Molten Meteor Heroic Difficulty — Molten Meteors roll in one of 8 random directions, dealing 500000 Flamestrike damage to enemies within 5 yards every 1.5 sec. If the meteor reaches a wall, it will break apart into three Molten Boulders, which ricochet back in the opposite direction. If destroyed before reaching a wall, the Molten Meteor becomes temporarily stationary and blocks line of sight.
      • Spell shaman lavaburst Molten Boulder Heroic Difficulty — Three Molten Boulders form when a Molten Meteor hits a wall and breaks apart. Molten Boulders knock back and inflict 32000 Flamestrike damage to players within 3 yards every 1.5 sec.

Stage Two: The Skies are Mine!

Alysrazor flies in a tight circle, removes Wings of Flame from all players after 5 seconds, and then begins her ultimate attack.

  • Ability mage firestarter Fiery Vortex Deadly — A Fiery Vortex appears in the middle of the arena, inflicting 50000 Fire damage every 0.5 seconds to players within 15 yards.
  • Spell fire playingwithfire Harsh Winds Deadly — Alysrazor's powerful wingstrokes cause harsh winds to scald the landscape around her nest, inflicting 50000 Fire damage every 1 seconds for 5 sec to players greater than 60 yards from the Fiery Vortex. This effect stacks.
  • Ability mage firestarter Fiery Tornado Important — Fiery Tornadoes erupt from the Fiery Vortex and begin moving rapidly around Alysrazor's arena, inflicting 40000 Fire damage every 1 sec to enemies within 4 yards.
  • Spell fire incinerate Blazing Power — Alysrazor continues to create rings of fire that appear on the ground of the arena and last for 3 seconds. Players passing through the ring gain Blazing Power, increasing their haste by 4%. This effect stacks up to 25 times. Each stack of Blazing Power also restores mana, rage, energy, runic power, and holy power.

Stage Three: Burnout!

Alysrazor crashes to the ground with 0 Molten Power and becomes vulnerable. This stage lasts until Alyrazor's energy bar reaches 50 Molten Power.

  • Spell holiday tow spicecloud Burnout Damage Dealer Alert Important — Alysrazor's fire burns out, immobilizing her and increasing her damage taken by 100%. When struck with a harmful spell Alysrazor emits Essence of the Green.
    • Inv misc head dragon green Essence of the Green Healer Alert Important — If Alysrazor is struck by a harmful spell she emits Essence of the Green, restoring 10% of the caster's maximum mana.
  • Inv elemental mote fire01 Spark — A bright spark burns within the heart of Alysrazor, restoring 3 Molten Power every 2 seconds.
  • Blazing Talon Clawshaper Tank Alert — At the start of stage 3, two Blazing Talon Clawshapers fly in and re-energize Alysrazor.
    • Spell fire soulburn Ignition Interruptible — Blazing Talon Clawshapers channel molten energy into Alysrazor, restoring 1 Molten Power every 1 sec.

Stage Four: Reborn in Flame!

Alysrazor's fire reignites at 50 Molten Power. This stage lasts until Alysrazor reaches 100 Molten Power.

  • Inv elemental primal fire Ignited — Alysrazor's fiery core combusts once again, rapidly restoring her Molten Power. The core restores 2 Molten Power every 1 seconds.
  • Spell shaman lavaburst Blazing Buffet — Alysrazor's fiery core emits powerful bursts of flame, inflicting 10000 Fire damage to all players every 1 seconds while Alysrazor remains Ignited.
  • Spell fire flameblades Blazing Claw Tank Alert — Alysrazor claws at her current target, inflicing 100000 Physical damage to enemies in a 25 yard long 90 degree cone every 1.5 seconds. Each swipe also increases the Fire and Physical damage dealt to the target by 10% for 15 sec.
  • Spell shaman improvedfirenova Full Power Healer Alert — When Alysrazor reaches 100 Molten Power, she is at Full Power. This deals 50000 Fire damage to all players and knocks them back. Alysrazor then begins her Stage 1 activities again.

Strategy

Raid composition

  • 1 (3 in 25man) Flyboy gets 3 Molten Feathers and attacks Alysrazor in the air.
  • 1 spare healer picks up healing slack throughout the raid while not getting strafed by Alysrazor.
  • 2 teams of tanks, heals and dps. Each team is assigned one half of the arena divided by Alysrazor's strafing lane.

initial pull

The first pull of the night will require a player to get Fandral's attention. Fandral will then pull all players to a single spot and root them while he monologues.

When Alysrazor spawns she will cast Firestorm (30K damage plus a knockback, followed by 100K of DoT). The raid should move southeast to get out of the strafing path, then group up for AoE heals.

Second and later pulls are triggered by touching the single feather at northeast end of the battlefield. Players will not be relocated by Fandral this time, so before touching the feathers, players should group up near the "front" of the battlefield (toward the flame cavern containing Alysrazor) but outside of the strafing path (southeast is traditional). If you are too close to the "back" of the battlefield, Firestorm will knock you into the Volcanic Fire and you will probably die. After the knockback, stay grouped up for AoE heals.

Phase 1

Alysrazor will fly along the strafing path while casting Blazing Claw. Don't get clawed. This strafing run will be repeated a few times during phase 1, so if you must enter the strafing lane (to collect feathers or switch sides) do not tarry.

In her wake Molten Feathers will be dropped. Each healer should grab one for the speed buff and the ability to cast while moving.

The flyboy(s) (good classes for this role are Fire Mages, Spriests, Aff locks and Fury warriors) should grab 3 feathers to gain Wings of Flame. With Wings of Flame you are able to fly around and blast Alysrazor without having to worry about worms and hatchlings. However you do need to avoid cloud of flames thar she releases along with the flame rings. While in the air fly through the flame rings to extend your air time indefinitely. If you lose the wings, grab another feather to regain them.

DPS and interruptors' first priority is the Blazing Talon Initiate. Brushfire can not be interrupted. Fieroblast must be interrupted. A missed interrupt gives the initiate a buff that speeds up later casts, making it eventually impossible to interrupt every fieroblast. The sooner you can kill the initiate, the sooner you can plink at the hatchlings. Be on the look-out for replacement initiates that spawn throughout the fight.

Tanks have to pick up the Voracious Hatchlings. The player standing closest to each hatchling will be Imprinted and aggro is permanent until that player dies. Only the tank should be close enough to become Imprinted. Imprinted also gives the tank +1000% damage. Tanks are expected to do the majority of the damage against the hatchlings.

Hatchlings start out Satiated, but rather quickly convert to Hungry. While Hungry every time they land a blow there's a 20% chance to convert to Tantrum. When the hatchling throws a tantrum the tank should quickly kite it (strafing is preferable to backpedaling) into a Plump Lava Worm. Try not to walk through the Lava Spew. This is also a good time to pick up two Molten Feathers to get the speed buff. Don't pick up 3, or you will be launched into the air (and risk having the hatchling imprint on another player).

Worms spawn shortly after the Hatchlings emerge from their eggs. There is an initial wave of four and after a set period of time, another four spawn. Tanks should memorize the spawn points of the worms so that they do not spawn under a hatchling (and "waste" a tantrum suppression opportunity). The worms can be divided between the two tanks using the strafing path as the dividing line (although the second wave of worms has ones very close to the strafing path that can cause confusion over dibs for tanks-in-training). Each tank can expect to have the use of four worms during phase 1, although the chaos of battle can mess this up.

It is not unusual to suffer a tantrum while there are no worms available. Tanks should have a major cooldown available to lighten the load on the healers in this event.

Conversely, it is possible to get lucky and have spare worms near the end of phase 1. If there are still worms up 15 seconds before the beginning of phase 2, use the hatchling to kill the worms so they are not casting Lava Spew during phase 2.

Tanks who are not yet overgeared may find it challenging to kill the voracious hatchling before phase 2 starts. If DPS is able to quickly kill the Blazing Talon Initiate, they can assist by blasting the hatchling until the next Initiate lands.

Healers and DPS, be aware that the hatchlings periodically cleave a Gushing Wound. Try not to be in the 60 degree cone. Healers, understand that a player afflicted by this will bleed until they reach half health, or until 60 seconds pass. Trying to top off a player afflicted by this DoT is probably a waste of mana. Wait until they bleed down to 50% health and then heal them.

Do not let a worm spin its Lava Spew onto you. It causes 40K damage / second.

Phase 2

Hatchlings and worms should be dead at the beginning of phase 2. A skilled tank can dodge tornados and tank the hatchling, but it is rather difficult and healers are too busy dodging tornados to cast more heals.

Phase 2 is a brutal frogger minigame. The center of the arena and the outer edge of the arena are death zones because of the Harsh Winds AoE. In between there is a zone of less death filled with orbiting Fiery Tornados.

Experienced players will perceive that there are well-defined circular concentric lanes. Each lane is populated by tornados moving in the same direction at the same speed. Adjacent lanes have tornados moving in the opposite direction. Tornados move faster than players can run (even if they have Molten Feathers), so players must change lanes to avoid damage.

The simplest tactic is to chase a tornado in a single lane until a tornado passes you going in the opposite direction. Immediately change lanes and change directions to pursue the opposing tornado. If you were to stay in the same lane too long, a tornado would overtake you, but by changing lanes you are able to avoid this. It is possible to allow two tornados to pass in the adjacent lane and then change lanes while still avoiding being steamrolled by the pursuing tornado.

Phase 3

Alysrazor falls to the center of the arena, exhausted. All DPS and healers should begin blasting Alysrazor to take advantage of Essence of the Green (and the bonus damage of phase 3). Group up so you can avoid taking a cleave in Phase 4.

The two tanks must move to their assigned sides and interrupt the Ignition cast by Blazing Talon Clawshapers. Interrupting Ignition delays Alysrazor's revival. The cast interval on Ignition is such that pure interrupts aren't enough. The tanks should first use an interrupt, then a stun, then another interrupt. The fourth ignition is of no consequence because even with good interrupts Alysrazor will be reignited by her own Spark. After the third interrupt a tank should move into position to tank phase 4.

Phase 4

When Alysrazor reaches 50 energy she reactivates. A tank should taunt and immediately build threat. Alysrazor will perform Blazing Claw, a cleave that stacks a debuff on the tank. All DPS should already be grouped up behind Alysrazor. The second tank should take care not to be in the cone of Blazing Claw. Healers should be able to keep a single tank alive through 11 or 12 stacks of Blazing Claw (and tanks using a minor cooldown to reduce the damage helps) Once Alysrazor reaches 100 energy she will take to the air and return to Phase 1.

One notable exception is that if Alysrazor is pushed beneath 20% health during phase 4, she will become permanently grounded. This means the tank will continue suffering Blazing Claws. If the second tank does not taunt, the first tank will become unhealable. The second tank must not taunt from within the DPS pack, or they will suffer Blazing Claw as well, quickly leading to a wipe. The ideal configuration is to Triangulate the raid so that tanks can trade off as their Blazing Claw stacks fall off.

Normally phase 4 will usually end with Alysrazor taking flight. She will leave behind a pile of Molten Feathers which should be used by the healers and the flyboy.

afterword

If the flyboy has learned how to DPS and stay flying, and the raid is able to focus during phase 3, a properly geared raid can expect to kill Alysrazor in the air during phase 1 of the third cycle. Undergeared raids who can compensate with skill will take longer.

This fight is mostly about control and survival. If you have people dying, you need more power or more practice.
