The subject of this article was removed from World of Warcraft in patch 4.0.1.

Prior to Patch 4.0.1, [Frost Ward] was a mage spell that would cast a shield on the caster to absorb frost damage. The shield would last 30 seconds or until the given amount of damage was absorbed, whichever came first. Frost Ward was self-cast only. Since Patch 4.0.1, Frost Ward has been replaced with [Mage Ward] which is a similar spell that also blocks Fire and Arcane damage.
- 1. Previously, Frost Ward (Rank 5) could have been trained at level 60 from [Tome of Frost Ward V]; a random drop from pre-TBC high level dungeons, raid bosses and outdoor world bosses. As yet there have been no reported instances of this item dropping from Burning Crusade mobs.
Talent improvements
The [Frost Warding] talent gave Frost Ward a 20% chance at max rank to reflect frost spells back at the caster.
This spell benefits from the mana cost reduction effects of the talents Elemental Precision and [Frost Channeling].
[Cold Snap] would have reset the cooldown on this spell.
Notes
Frost Ward could have been dispelled as a magic debuff.
Damage reduction due to spell resistances or [Dampen Magic]-like effects was calculated before damage would be absorbed.
[Fire Ward] shared the same cooldown timer as [Frost Ward]. Using one ward would have triggered the cooldown of the other, meaning only one of the two wards could have been active at a time.
