This post is being made at both WoWWiki and Wowpedia. I would hope that the community on both sides would unanimously support me in this.
I ask that everyone pause and consider the consequences of their actions -- not just to themselves but to the community as a whole -- before taking action against which diminishes or reflects poorly on either fork. Acts of vandalism is wrong, no matter the reason. Both WoWWiki and Wowpedia have a legal right to exist (as enshrined by the copywrite license we all agree to when we make contributions).
The very concept of a Wiki requires that we collaborate, assume good faith, and treat each other with dignity and respect. It is on this basis that large Wikis such as WoWWiki/Wowpedia have come to be so successful. Despite the many differences of opinion between those participating in the fork and those not participating, I think we all need to remember the importance of acting with a kind, friendly spirit when editing BOTH wikis. This community (combined, both forks) was founded on principles of working together. As such, vandalism, or attempting to discredit or interfere with the operation of either portion of the community, is contrary to the principles that this community stands upon.
By vandalising either fork, be it WoWWiki or Wowpedia, you are chosing to act on personal motivations which fly in the face of the community spirit that has made this so successful.
The above is merely my opinion, as a casual contributer. Do you agree/disagree?
- I agree 100%. I don't want anyone here running over to Wowpedia to vandalize that site, for whatever misguided motivations you may have; and certainly it's not appropriate to retaliate in kind for the vandalism made to this wiki, which was NOT condoned by Wowpedia but was the actions of a single person with a bot. I spent some time in their chatroom talking about the situation with them, and I consider this matter resolved. --Kris talk 23:14, November 5, 2010 (UTC)
- I was just attempting to bring it to the attention of someone. It was more of a question and my wanting to point out that it should be fixed if I was correct rather than finger pointing. --Cam2A 14:22, November 7, 2010 (UTC)
- This thread was created as a response to a single user choosing to create those banners. The whole point of posting this thread on the forums of both sites was to try and build a community consensus that such actions are wrong and should not be repeated. Deadlykris: thank you for your support. ddcorkum (talk) 16:56, November 7, 2010 (UTC)
- My apologies, I am new here. I just thought they were rude. --Cam2A 17:29, November 7, 2010 (UTC)
