There has been some turmoil surrounding changes being made on WoWWiki recently, and while we are sad that some very active community members are starting another project, we also need to look to the future of the WoWWiki community. Since I probably haven't properly introduced myself here before, allow me to do so now. My name is Joe, and I run the Gaming Content Team here at Wikia. I want to let the WoWWiki community know that you have our support moving forward, and that 2011 will be a very exciting year both on and off the wiki!
We just finished shifting to a new, wider layout, giving WoWWiki over 25% more content space! As the data shows, WoWWiki is unique - not only from a resolution standpoint, but content layout structure as well. A wider content area will hopefully increase readability. Also, kicking off this week will be the first in a series of online and offline events.
Starting with BlizzCon, Wikia will be hosting a meet and greet. Come talk shop, grab something to eat and the closest thing to a fine brew that Anaheim has to offer. We would love to meet you in person, say thanks for all the hard work, and forge a brilliant future together (too cheesy? :P). Come join us Saturday, October 23rd at 4 p.m. at the Mix Lounge inside the Hilton Hotel (across from the convention center). See WoWWiki:BlizzCon meetup for more info.
We’re also pleased to announce that we got our grubby paws on a stack of Cataclysm copies to give out to the community. We’ll give you more details on how you can win this and several other giveaways we have lined up in the coming weeks and months.
Which brings me to the coolest part of my job – we would like to kick off the first Wikia admin meetup with WoWWiki. We’ll be throwing in an all-expense paid travel package (airfare, hotel, food and some surprises) to hang out with Wikia and the Gaming Team in San Francisco. We’re still working on the dates, so stay tuned. We’ll be sure to let you know! JoePlay (talk) 21:48, October 21, 2010 (UTC)
