See {{Coords/dev}}. I think it's pretty nifty. Just Alerting You Small Howbizr(t·c) 7:56 PM, 19 Jul 2009 (EDT)

Nice, I will update the main template when I put the finishing touches on the instance changes if there are no objections. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,926 contributions and counting) 20:54, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
Possible to make it not include the icon, but have the zone name appear option/parameter ? User:Coobra/Sig4 21:09, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
Can you give an example? I understand the no icon part, but I'm not sure what you mean by "zone name appear option/parameter." Just Alerting You Small Howbizr(t·c) 6:21 PM, 21 Jul 2009 (EDT)
He wants an option to show only the zone name as opposed to the only the coordinates. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,926 contributions and counting) 22:22, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
Actually an option to show the zone name and coordinates, but without the icon. That way this template could be used in sentences and not add a disruptive image in the middle. User:Coobra/Sig4 22:55, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
Check it out now. Just Alerting You Small Howbizr(t·c) 7:36 PM, 21 Jul 2009 (EDT)
On a related note, I'm thinking about another template that would call this with some predefined coordinates. So for example, {{zone|<Naxxramas>}} would simply generate "Achievement zone dragonblight 01 Naxxramas ", so you don't have to memorize Dragonblight 88,44. This might be handy for other points of interest (maybe the template should be {{POI}} but that would probably get too big), like bosses, sub-zones, etc. Just Alerting You Small Howbizr(t·c) 7:42 PM, 21 Jul 2009 (EDT)
The change looks good, but I was thinking more of to display the the actual coords for those that have the capability of seeing coords. They way you made it is for things to see by sight (since the popup doesn't show the coords), cause personally I love seeing the coords (without highlighting over it). Awesome job though. User:Coobra/Sig4 00:52, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
I don't mind tweaking it some more if you can give an example. Smiley Just Alerting You Small Howbizr(t·c) 9:20 AM, 22 Jul 2009 (EDT)
Very cool. I do like the option to add additional information like the zone name or the icon. However, I am not so sure about taking away the display of the coordinates themselves. Especially if omitting that function would eliminate the need for the equals sign. Wige (T - C) 18:35, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
Considering the different states were designed to be mutually exclusive, it's probably not a bad thing to consider. However, if I made it a state without an equal sign, the order of the parameters would be required. Currently,
{{co|zone=|50|50|Un'goro}} works just as well as {{co|50|50|Un'goro|zone=}}. Without equals it would be more like {{co|50|50|Un'goro|zone}} would be the only way to go.Just Alerting You Small Howbizr(t·c) 5:14 PM, 22 Jul 2009 (EDT)

This maybe a Pcj request, but is there a way to put the coordinate numbers in the tooltip window? This would be good for the cases where the displayed text doesn't include the coords. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 2:30 PM PST 22 Jul 2009

Mmm my feeling is, if you care about the coords, use the options that show them. The option to hide them is just because the map is important, not the exact location. Just Alerting You Small Howbizr(t·c) 5:53 PM, 22 Jul 2009 (EDT)

To use this template within a sentence like, this is what I mean for what I'm looking for:

Dr. Moogoo can be found in Netherstorm [10, 25]. (an option to show without the icon, but with the coords)

Currently only options through this template is:

Dr. Moogoo can be found in [10, 25]. (using {{coords/dev|<10>|<25>|<Netherstorm>}})
Dr. Moogoo can be found in Netherstorm . (with zone=)
Dr. Moogoo can be found in Achievement zone netherstorm 01 Netherstorm . (with icon=)
Dr. Moogoo can be found in Achievement zone netherstorm 01 Netherstorm [10, 25]. (with all=)

Little side note I just noticed, its putting an extra space in the ones not displaying the coords. User:Coobra/Sig4 22:51, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

Ya I see that. I'll just change "zone=" to include the coords. Would that work? Just Alerting You Small Howbizr(t·c) 9:10 PM, 22 Jul 2009 (EDT)
Sounds good to me. Smiley You can still keep the other way as well, and say use coords= to not show the coords if you like. User:Coobra/Sig4 01:49, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
Good work, but just like the {{item|icon=|}} it's strange/disturbing to see the map/icon in the middle of a sentence.

Glad to see I'm not alone regarding {{item|<Icon>}}. Sometimes also NPC and Achievement templates too, for the same reason. Even the horde/alliance logo *within text* disturbs me. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 17:20, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
But it is a good (visual) for the ones that can't read (it is easier to recognize a picture insted of a word) - yeah that's it, yeah, yeah - then again I am President of the "Good at making things up" club you know. -- but in all honesty it is easier to find instead of just words ( colored, underlined, or otherwise) -- (M o r p hJames E. Gonna have to agree to disagree. I think icons really help scanning, and break up the "wall of text" problems. I feel completely intimidated and probably will never read the lore articles for that reason.
In contrast, if you look at a wowhead guide such as this one, they use lots of icons and mouseovers, however they are mostly in tables and lists, and not so much inline. Just Alerting You Small Howbizr(t·c) 3:38 PM, 23 Jul 2009 (EDT)

Just as an experiment, temporarily disable "auto-load images" in your browser, and see if the page looks acceptable without the icons/images. Not directly related to the above thread, but still tangentially relevant. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 20:01, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

I don't see something comparable for Chrome. Why would they be disabled by any kind of normal user? Just Alerting You Small Howbizr(t·c) 4:31 PM, 23 Jul 2009 (EDT)
"Dial-up connection" --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 20:59, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
If you use dial-up, you don't play wow. Kirkburn could probably get you exact statistics about how many users visit the webpage from that kind of connection, but it's undoubtedly low. The flash ads alone and portal homepage alone would probably be enough to draw them away. Just Alerting You Small Howbizr(t·c) 6:17 PM, 23 Jul 2009 (EDT)
Until a year ago, I did play wow on dialup. And yes, battlegrounds sucked. Raids were marginal, even instances were hit-or-miss depending on current lag value. Some classes were unplayable due to lag. Been there, got the T-shirt, thank you very much. Flash ads? "Flashblock" and "No script" addons to firefox.
"Not worth supporting because the number of people affected is low"? Don't make me crawl up your sig file and bite you.... No, really. That argument infuriates me. Don't use it. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 23:27, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
That's the way the world works when you aren't talking about life and death. It's a simple cost-benefit analysis. You can't do much about the 1% (and I'd be pretty surprised if our traffic from dial up is more than 5% but I suspect it's much lower). Just Alerting You Small Howbizr(t·c) 9:41 PM, 23 Jul 2009 (EDT)

<-- Thumbs up from me. (Oh, and howbizr... I still try to design the site so it's not crap for dialup users--which is why I tend to complain when pages are broken in elinks) --k_d3 21:04, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

Oh and I do what I can for dial up people, but again, if you play WoW, you really should have a DSL or better internet connection or you're just shooting yourself in the foot. Obviously faster pages are faster for everyone, so there's still a lot to be said for performance tuning. Just Alerting You Small Howbizr(t·c) 6:01 PM, 28 Jul 2009 (EDT)
And, while we're talking about it, usually a JS implementation of zebra tables loads faster than the manually implemented "class=alt" method. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,926 contributions and counting) 22:04, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
