Forums: Index WoWWiki technical Lowercasing WoW icons

So the topic has been broached that we should lowercase all of the WoW icons for sanity purposes. (e.g. File:INV ThanksGiving CranberrySauce.png --> [[File:inv thanksgiving cranberrysauce.png]]. It is doable (all hail the pywikipedia framework!) and it's been something I've been thinking/complaining internally about for some time now.

One technical snag is that bots do not have the movefile permission, so I'd either have to log it in as me (and spam the daylights out of RC) or get that permission added, which shouldn't be too difficult.

Any major objections? I intend to leave the auto-created redirects active so we won't immediately have to change every tooltip on the wiki. --k_d3 00:32, November 24, 2009 (UTC)

I'm in favor of it. User:Coobra/Sig4 01:42, November 24, 2009 (UTC)
I approve, wholeheartedly. As far as tooltip compatibility, just add {{lc:}} to the template and leave off the redirects. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,926 contributions and counting) 01:58, November 24, 2009 (UTC)
Will have to do that for {{abilities}} as well. User:Coobra/Sig4 04:57, November 24, 2009 (UTC)
The move has begun. Admins/crucially, please ban KaydeeBot (click the big red x on its user page) if it moves something it shouldn't or causes the load to go too high. I've hard-coded it to only move pages in the File: namespace that are in a category or a sub-category of Category:WoW Icons, so it shouldn't cause too much damage. It's in the Abilities cat as I type this. --k_d3 03:24, November 26, 2009 (UTC)

Later down the road when all the articles are correct to using the new names for the icons, is a bot capable of deleting all those unused redirects? User:Coobra/Sig4 03:43, November 26, 2009 (UTC)

The bot would need administrator access. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,926 contributions and counting) 03:44, November 26, 2009 (UTC)
Or another tweak to LocalSettings.php. >.> --k_d3 05:29, November 26, 2009 (UTC)

Ok. The script is done. I've edited the templates I could think of. Let's see what happens when the jobqueue processes. --k_d3 23:29, November 26, 2009 (UTC)

Just noticed a few icons that didn't move cause they were JPG files under the PNG file name. Guess we'll have to either check all the icons >< or just keep an eye out. User:Coobra/Sig4 03:49, November 28, 2009 (UTC)
This API call lists all images starting with "INV" (capitalized as such) and which are not redirects, that should help a bit. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,926 contributions and counting)
Aye very much so... more than I thought, but less than an annoyance. User:Coobra/Sig4 04:05, November 28, 2009 (UTC)
Add File:Spell Shadow UnstableAffliction 2.png to your list (and compare against File:Spell shadow unstableafllictions.png), I can't find where it's used or otherwise I'd do it. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,926 contributions and counting) 04:35, November 28, 2009 (UTC)
And File:Thrown_1H_Harpoon_D_01.png, File:Thrown_1H_Harpoon_D_01Blue.png, File:Thrown_1H_Harpoon_D_01Bronze.png, File:Thrown_1H_Harpoon_D_01Silver.png. I have no idea why these are on WoWWiki (or at least categorized that way). --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,926 contributions and counting) 04:44, November 28, 2009 (UTC)
Hmm, they seem to be in the files [1], just never used or completed I guess. I see no reason to keep them. Not like they'll ever be used in the state they are in. User:Coobra/Sig4 05:53, November 28, 2009 (UTC)

Ok. The API result now returns an empty list. The Thrown files are in the MPQs (and extracted with the AddOn Kit), but I'm just tempted to delete them, even though I added them. --k_d3 22:42, November 28, 2009 (UTC)

POI icons

Did we want the POI icons to be lower cased as well? Or we could just leave the redirects for those.

Probably doesn't matter. User:Coobra/Sig4 21:47, November 26, 2009 (UTC)
