Forums: Index World of Warcraft Can someone help me be a good healer?

I've been toying around with the idea of healing and even though it's a lot of pressure, I think I'm gonna go for it. So, I made a blood elf, priest. Any tips would be appreciated. Also, what should I spec? --Luksy217 (talk) 20:53, January 21, 2011 (UTC) Luksy 1/21/2011

Priest specs really depend on the type of game you want to play. For a healer, Shadow is probably not your best option. Holy is a good option for high-pressure battleground healing, but you are usually quick to be targeted because your heals generate high threat. Disc is more of a protection spec, which specializes in mitigating damage. I have a Holy Priest, and I play battlegrounds a lot, and I get killed a lot. It seems to be most effective in supporting small groups of attackers, whereas a Disc Priest would be better for keeping a flag carrier alive.

A tip I can share is to re-assign the key binding for "Target Friendly". I think it's set as CTRL-Tab or some other ridiculous combination key. I recommend setting this function to a single key, because you'll use it a lot. Right now it's on my tilde key, or the one right above TAB.

Another tip I can share is to get the macro for making people's health bars stand the hell still so you can target them quickly. This used to be a checkbox option called "Allow Overlapping Name Plates", but for some reason with the Cataclysm update, this option is gone. Do a search for Overlapping Name Plates Macro and it should pop up eventually. If you don't use this, healing in a crowd with all those name plates jumping around (even though the toons aren't moving that much!) will be well-nigh impossible.

Also: Healing is not for the weak. You will be chewed out for being incompetent through no fault of your own, and you will get praised for being miraculous, also through no fault of your own. Practice! --Intentions (talk) 22:20, January 21, 2011 (UTC)

Thanks a ton for the advice! That helps a lot. See, my boyfriend got me into WoW, but we are hardly ever able to be on (or awake) at the same time. So it's difficult to ask him questions even though he's been playing since WoW first came out.

But now, I thin I'm going to have 2 priests on the same server. It would be cool to DPS with a shadow priest as well. :) The other thing I wanted to ask is, I've been trying to get addons, but I don't have an addon folder in my WoW folder. This is because I originally had WoW on my laptop and the folder got corrupted somehow. But when I fixed it using the repair program it gives you, my addon folder was gone. Since then, I have gotten all my programs off my laptop (which I sold) and sent them to my pc via ethernet cable. I tried re-creating the folder and put DrDamage in (which is like recount), but it still won't show up in gameplay. What should I do?

Plus, when is there a flag carrier? During raids? I'm pretty much a noob even though I had played previously for a month or two before I took a break.

Not great, but's AddOn install guide. Look for the Interface\AddOns\ folder inside the same folder as your WoW.exe.
The flag carrier usually means the player with the banner/flag in Warsong Gulch battleground. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 4:37 PM PST 24 Jan 2011
