Most of Designer Island is filled with a huge field with Westfall-like textured ground and with gently rolling hills. It is dotted with buildings of human architecture. In addition, the field is shadowed by a huge untextured structure that resembles a [[wikipedia:nautilus|nautilus]], a snail-like marine creature. This structure look very much like the artist rendition of [[Dragon Isles]].

{{Patch 4.2.0|note=Added.}}
A poster on Thottbot by the name of Alex M reported that the zone was accessible initially WoW beta. He alleged that players were able to reach the island using an exploit. This exploit allowed them to farm the abundant game items that was available to the game designers. According to him, the accounts of those who exploited were suspended for 72 hours and the zone was made into an instance.

Unlike terrain information which can be confirmed using map viewers, the information he provided is difficult to verify. However, there is a video showing a player who explored both GM Isle and Designer Isle [http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-905196492494163724]. The following is an excerpt from Alex's post:

The place itself was just a huge field (Westfall-like textured ground) with gently rolling hills. Then there was this one little valley with a farm-like field where most of the cool stuff was.
