The Crossroads is the largest Horde town in the Northern Barrens, aptly named for the crossing of the main north-south road (from the Gold Road) and the road from Ratchet in the east all the way to the Stonetalon Mountains in the west. Combined with its central location and the wyvern flight routes, the Crossroads offers access to nearly all Horde outposts in Kalimdor. As such, this small crossing is usually the first place you will see large gatherings of players outside of Orgrimmar or Thunder Bluff.

The Crossroads graveyard is considered the default graveyard for Horde players, much like the Sentinel Hill graveyard for Alliance players.

Despite having only few lodgings, the Crossroads is a busy bustling trade center. Traders enjoy shouting their wares and interests. Just past the settlement, there is a burial area that the Horde members visit to pay their respects to the dead.[2]

During the Fourth War, a large Alliance army advanced on the Crossroads in an attempt to capture it[4] and cut off Mulgore and Durotar. Horde forces were sent to stop them.[5]

During Death Rising, Crossroads came under attack by the Scourge and the Cult of the Damned. It was defended by the town's inhabitants, as well as the Argent Crusade, and a Horde champion.

PvP[]

In addition to the numerous Horde players that gather there, Crossroads attracts its fair share of Alliance players as well. Within striking distance of Ashenvale to the north, and the port of Ratchet to the east, it is not uncommon to find an all out war happening outside one of the entrances of Crossroads on a daily basis. Larger scale Alliance assaults tend to occur during peak server population periods (between 4 PM and around midnight).

The area outside the inn also serves as an informal practice ground for PvP, and offers a good place for lower level Horde players to cut their teeth, as these are skills that they will likely need when facing the Alliance in more sparsely populated, remote regions later on.

In the RPG[]

Crossroads serves as a hub for Horde activities in the Barrens and provides them with flying mounts as well. Camp Taurajo is found south of this settlement.[6] Crossroads is run mainly by orcs, though it is populated by tauren and trolls as well, and there are several Forsaken working with the Horde here. The village's leader is Thork, an orc who is concerned with defending the town against the quilboar and centaur. Crossroads is a helpful stop-off for any Horde adventurers traveling through the Barrens and Alliance members would be wise to avoid it.[7]

Although the hostilities between the Alliance and the Horde are in full swing in the region, the dwarves of Bael Modan are considered fairly unthreatening, for that reason Brann Bronzebeard was able to convince Crossroads' guards that he was simply there to learn about Titan ruins in the area and move on, and even though he got a few dangerous looks, the Horde tolerated his presence.[7]

Nara Wildmane resides here, and because the settlement is in close proximity to the Wailing Caverns, she keeps track of the comings and goings of druids in the area.[8]
