Commander Springvale is the third boss in Shadowfang Keep.
- Heroic: Kill the adds first (priority on the Guardsmen), interrupting their casts of Unholy Empowerment, and whenever more adds run in (from the exit door), kill them ASAP. DPS should only attack Springvale when there are no adds. Move behind Springvale when he uses Shield of the Perfidious (frontal 150° cone). Move out of Desecration spots he casts.
A paladin ghost found in Shadowfang Keep. He was human once, but he was killed in the raid of Arugal and his worgen lackeys on Shadowfang Keep. He remains, however, haunting the council room with his soldiers.
And he also drops for the following rogue quests:
Attacks and abilitiesEdit
- —Strikes an enemy for 100% weapon damage, generating a charge of Unholy Power.
- —Defiles the ground at the feet of the caster. Grasping arms of the dead deal damage and hinder the movement of enemies in the area by 50%.
- — Frontal cone AoE, dealing massive amounts of shadow damage every .5 seconds to all players caught within the fire. Consumes 3 charges of Unholy Power.
Commander Springvale will be pulled with two of his guards.
For heroic mode, Commander Springvale can be very difficult if not handled correctly. There are four major components to his fight:
- 1) Desecration, a spell where he does a point blank area of effect attack that you must move out of.
- 2) Minions which he sporadically calls into the room, both of which will cast Unholy Empowerment on the boss, increasing his damage by 10% per stack and healing him for 4% of his max HP.
- The adds are:
- Wailing Guardsman: Uses an AoE Silence ability in addition to a Mortal Strike
- Tormented Officer: Uses Forsaken Ability (reduces chance to hit, healing done, etc.) and has reduces damage done to self by 75%
- 3) Every time the boss reaches 3 stacks of Unholy Empowerment, he will cast either Word of Shame, (which will remain active for the remainder of the fight, dealing 5% max HP damage every 3 seconds to a single target) or Shield of the Perfidious, a frontal-cone AoE which must be moved out of.
Tank him on the wall furthest away from him (but NOT on the bench, as this tends to make the boss cast his frontal cone backwards, towards your group), with all the dps behind the boss and all ranged dps a bit away from him. If possible, CC the Officer and nuke down the Guardsman, with casters and healers being sure to keep their distance to avoid the silence. When Desecration is cast, the tank and melee dps must move out of it, as it does deal considerable damage and makes the run to get adds much slower.
When he casts Shield of the Perfidious, it is important to make sure that he is facing away from the group, at which point the tank must simply step out of the cone.
DPS need to focus on adds the whole time, and ONLY DPS SPRINGVALE WHILE THE ADDS ARE CLEAR, prioritizing the Guardsmen, as their Mortal Strike and Silence can do some real harm to healers and casters alike. The tank should not try to pick up the adds, and instead have a plate DPS pick them up, as the damage from the Commander is quite significant, and the Mortal Strike will definitely make the fight much harder to heal than it needs to be. If either add is seen casting Unholy Empowerment, it MUST be interrupted. Due to the fact that his Malefic Strike generates Unholy Power, Word of Shame or Shield of the Perfidious is an inevitability, but it is best to keep it from happening until as late in the fight as possible, making the fight easier on the healer.
Done properly, this fight is still a difficult one, with high amounts of damage on many group members. However, it is entirely possible to complete without being highly raid-geared, if all members pay close attention and are able to react quickly.
As of patch 4.0.6 the "Pull to Courtyard" strategy no longer works. Commander Springvale will receive a 200% damage buff whenever he's in the courtyard or out of his room.
- Intruders in the keep! To arms!
- Our vigilance is eternal...
Scene after deathEdit
- Deathstalker Commander Belmont says: I've sent my men forward on the rooftops to secure the area around Lord Walden.
- Deathstalker Commander Belmont says: Of course, somebody's going to have to take care of the small army between here and there.
- Patch 4.0.3a (2010-11-23): Level increased slightly; now a ghost; heroic version available.
