WoWWiki was the original name of Wowpedia when it was launched on 24 November 2004. In 2007 the wiki joined Wikia and in the process gave legal rights to the wowwiki.com domain to Wikia.
In 2010, mandatory changes to the Wikia interface broke some of the wiki's advanced functionality and added many undesirable new limitations. As a result, all of the admins who were not Wikia employees and many of the active users moved to Wowpedia in October 2010.
Due to Wikia's policies, wowwiki.com still exists as a copy of some Wowpedia content and it continues to receive some edits from those who do not know the previous administration has moved.
Content deleted from WoWWiki before the fork can be undeleted at WoWWiki, but was not imported to Wowpedia, so doesn't exist there and can't be recovered unless it is undeleted at WoWWiki and then copied.
As part of the CC-BY-SA license used by both Wowpedia and WoWWiki, copying content between the two sites is permitted if proper attribution is given (see {{WoWWiki credit}} here and Wowpedia credit template on WoWWiki).
