The ability to acquire new copies of four recipes was removed in Patch 4.0.3a. Unused copies were not deleted from player inventories and may still be traded or sold on the auction house. Prior to the patch, the Chops and Tea recipes were already worth many thousands of gold in the auction house. This means that there are currently only 196 recipes reasonably available to new characters who do not, or cannot, pay the new market rates for these recipes.

:: While I certainly agree that every area that does not yet exist in-game is rumored to become so at some point, this area in particular has seen a rather heavy amount of speculation. There is already mention of the Emerald Dream in its section being rumored as a large part of a future expansion. Infact, both the Emerald Dream and the Maelstrom have been the two areas that have been the most heavily rumored to be featured in an upcoming expansion, eventhough Blizzard has said themselves that they have plans for the Emerald Dream... however, what those plans are still continue to be speculated. Seems a little inconsistent to mention this in an article for one yet not for the other. I am not recommending such rumors to be placed in a subsection of this article because I somehow believe them to make the Maelstrom unique, but that there has been such a heavy amount of speculation for it and there are many other areas in the Warcraft universe that have been speculated far less than the Maelstrom and yet have had speculation of their possible inclusion posted.--Varteras (talk) 11:29, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

A confirmed bug reduces the count by one, as an unspecified recipe may not always be accurately counted. This was confirmed by a GM. (see discussion)

  +
Continents Location
−
For some players, the achievement system shows a total recipe count one or two higher than the actual number known. This would enable those players to receive the achievement at 198 or 199 recipes. A reasonable explanation is that the system counted the two cookbooks that used to be required, and thus gave +1 or +2 to the count depending on whether the player was also affected by the confirmed bug mentioned above.
