An occasionally used term for a "dot" (what Blizzard calls it) on the mini-map representing something a player character is trying to track.

Types of blips:

Resource blip 16x12 for resource nodes in character area or tracked NPCs.
Under rsrc blip 16x12 for nodes in separate area from character area (above/below).
Out-faction blip 16x12 for neutral players (non-PvP flagged other faction too).
NPC neutral blip patch4 1 16x16 for neutral targeted NPCs.
In-faction blip 16x12 for friendly players.
In-faction NPC blip 16x12 for friendly NPCs.
NPC blip patch4 1 16x16 for friendly targeted NPCs.
Enemy player blip 16x12 for hostile players.
Mob blip 16x12 for hostile NPCs (aka enemies or mobs).
Mob blip patch4 1 16x16 for hostile targeted NPCs (aka enemies or mobs).

  • 0400Cataclysm-Logo-Small Patch 4.1.0 (26-Apr-2011): Blips for selected mobs and NPCs.
  • 0300Wrath-Logo-Small Patch 3.2.0 (04-Aug-2009): Party blip 16x10 for party members was replaced with class colored blips.
  • 0200Bc icon Patch 2.3.0 (13-Nov-2007): In-faction blip 16x12 and Out-faction blip 16x12 added.
