It is usually the best blessing for [[damage dealer]]s in raid in term of damage improvement, except hunters, or some rogues during boss encounters. In the ideal case, a 30% threat reduction means you can give out 1/(1-0.3) = 143% of your original threat-limited damage output before pulling aggro. In reality, your damage will not jump up by 43% immediately unless you have such potential damage output. However, a 20-30% increase in damage output is common, and probably no other single buff can give an improvement close to this.
It is especially useful on classes that tend to focus on high amounts of burst damage, such as [[Mage]]s and [[Warlock]]s.

Hunters are exception because their threat reduction ability [[Feign Death]] is so effective. There is no question that Salvation is the best for rogues when clearing trash. However, during boss encounters, some rogues prefer Salvation and others prefer [[Blessing of Might]]. Generally speaking, if the tanks' threat output is much greater than that of the rogues, Blessing of Might + a timely [[Vanish]] is better. If the rogues' threat output is much greater than that of the tanks, Blessing of Salvation (with or without Vanish) is better.

Spell holy greaterblessingofsalvation [Greater Blessing of Salvation]

Paladins also have Greater Blessings, which includes a Spell holy greaterblessingofsalvation [Greater Blessing of Salvation] which can be learned (purchased) from the Class Trainer. Each Greater Blessing affects all players of the targeted class within your party or raid and lasts for 30 minutes (as of patch 2.2).

Each Greater Blessing you cast requires the reagent Inv misc symbolofkings 01 [Symbol of Kings] which can be bought at any reagent vendor.

Tips and Tactics

Preventing aggro being drawn away from the main tank is critical in many instances and raid encounters, and Salvation helps make this happen less often.

It is usually the best blessing for damage dealers in raid in term of damage improvement, except hunters, or some rogues during boss encounters.

Hunters are exception because their threat reduction ability Ability rogue feigndeath [Feign Death] is so effective. There is no question that Salvation is the best for rogues when clearing trash. However, during boss encounters, some rogues prefer Salvation and others prefer Spell holy greaterblessingofkings [Blessing of Might]. Generally speaking, if the tanks' threat output is much greater than that of the rogues, Blessing of Might + a timely Ability vanish [Vanish] is better. If the rogues' threat output is much greater than that of the tanks, Blessing of Salvation (with or without Vanish) is better.

Notes

This does stack with Ability shaman tranquilmindtotem [Tranquil Air Totem] multiplicatively, for about 44% total threat reduction.
