It would appear that if all the elementals aren't killed by half-past the hour, they all despawn. This could just be sorry luck on my part, however twice now I've arrived at the spawning point to see them all just fade away. After some feedback from a number of people, the general consensus is that it's easier to have it all on the one page than have people - especially new people or those unfamiliar with it or disinclined to hunt about - have to go to a second page for the rather pertinent information.

: Having ''multiple copies'' of this list in different locations on the wiki is a problem, and should be solved regardless of whether this page is actually going to display this list or not.
−
:You can switch them, the new one is fully operational.

 +
: I don't buy the "let's cater to people who can't be bothered to hunt about" argument when, essentially, hunting about is noticing a line that says something like "You can view the [locations of the rifts here]." Taken to its logical extreme, this is essentially "Let's have all the content on one page, because some people might not see it otherwise," which leads to bad experience for both editors and readers.
−
:Replace <nowiki>{{Books}}</nowiki> by {{t|Bookfooter|TYPE}} when ever you find one, or check [[Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Books|What Links to Template:Books]] for a full list.

 +
: If you're going to invoke the words "consensus" and "feedback," you really should link discussions that demonstrate those -- as it stands right now, I can't figure out who, besides you, wants this list here, and for what reasons, which does your position no favours. -- [[User:Starlightblunder|foxlit]] ([[User talk:Starlightblunder|talk]]) 15:24, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

:: Agreed that multiple copies is redundant, but is a sub page with a link, hidden amongst the text, really the best location to supply pertinent information? The discussions were had offline, hence why I said that it should be talked about here rather than simply done without any form of discussion.
−
::What about [[World of Warcraft: The Magazine]] and [[Short stories]]? Pretty much done otherwise.[[Image:IconSmall_DrakeAzure.gif]] [[User:Drazisil|Drazisil]] ([[User talk:Drazisil|t]]/[[Special:Contributions/Drazisil|c]]) 03:08, June 8, 2010 (UTC)

 +
:: It is not "catering to people who can't be bothered to hunt about", simply a realisation that people are less inclined to use this as a source for information if they have to dig and look for an unremarkable mention that information can be found elsewhere - that is standard usability right there.
 +
:: This page is not so unnecessarily large that the information shouldn't be here. Shouldn't the information be on the one source that is easiest for people to locate and find?
 +
:: If it ''must'' be moved, clear links to where the information can be found should be put in its place, not the brief and unremarkable mention that was left here previously. It might be tidier having the information sub-sectioned away, but it's less user friendly and adds additional pages when a singular one will be sufficient for the task at hand. -- [[User:Berym|Berym]] ([[User talk:Berym|talk]]) 01:14, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

:::Actually, I've read through everything, and Arugal is only mentioned once, and not in any relations to the Scythe. I'm usually not in doubt about your edits, as you tend to be spot-on, but in this particular case, I think you're wrong. It is still possible that people pointing out holes in lore may cause Blizzard to alter quest information (etc). I was asked by my guild to make the edit because I was one of the few that already had a wowwiki account, and when you added that I needed citation, we as a guild emailed sites such as wow.com and mmochampion with screenshots and the like, trying to get them to post something we could link as a source.

The only other thing we could think of was a post on our forums talking about the incident. Apologies that I couldn't get the officer who made the deletion to make the post himself, but he's a busy guy. Was the problem with the source that he hadn't commented on the thread himself? I'm just trying to understand how I can get the post reinstated, we thought it was pretty hilarious at his expense, and we didn't think anyone else in the world had ever done this particular stupid thing, making it a pretty big deal in our eyes :) {{unsigned|Fiamma29}}

3 months is simply an unacceptable time period for a block to a user with a) no warnings, b) not obvious vandalism, and c) without email or talk page editing enabled. --[[User:Sky2042|Sky]] ([[User talk:Sky2042|t]] · [[Special:Contributions/Sky2042|c]]) 18:59, August 30, 2010 (UTC)

::The former is obvious page blanking, but that does not imply vandalism. This is why you leave a warning. Really sorry about any bad changes I made with the Lich King page and the relationship thing. I just REALLY enjoy the lore and thought that it wwould be a bit more interesting to just put down the relationships he head with the people he met in the story. Thanks for the edit:) and once again really sorry if I messed up the page.

==Hardened Elementium Bar versus Enchanted Elementium Bar==

−
I noticed you deleted the page on [[Hardened Elementium Bar]] and moved the contents to the [[Enchanted Elementium Bar]] page. I wanted to point out that as of right now on live, it's still called "Hardened Elementium Bar." It won't get changed to Enchanted Elementium Bar (a better name imo) until either 4.0.3 or 4.0.3a. I wasn't sure how it would be best to restore the page though. Should the enchanted elementium redirect to hardened elementium, or should hardened elementium redirect to a page named after an item that doesn't currently exist on the live realm? Either way, Hardened Elementium shouldn't be deleted entirely. [[User:Dr. Cheis|Dr. Cheis]] ([[User talk:Dr. Cheis|talk]]) 19:33, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

Revision as of 01:20, 13 November 2010

I added the location from the rifts that I found on the WoW forums, I am new to all this, I gave credit in the end, please correct if it was done wrongly. Luxcura (talk) 06:28, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

It would appear that if all the elementals aren't killed by half-past the hour, they all despawn. This could just be sorry luck on my part, however twice now I've arrived at the spawning point to see them all just fade away. Ariesian (talk) 14:39, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

Was this where, I have this happened to me in a lower level area (Silithus), seems to be a bug, sometimes I see them sometimes they just fade like you say, there has been reports of this all over the place, but I haven't tested further yet Luxcura (talk) 22:43, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

Locations on main page

After some feedback from a number of people, the general consensus is that it's easier to have it all on the one page than have people - especially new people or those unfamiliar with it or disinclined to hunt about - have to go to a second page for the rather pertinent information.

If someone feels it necessary to make a large change to the page in future, please put it up for discussion before you make the change. Berym (talk) 10:20, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

Having multiple copies of this list in different locations on the wiki is a problem, and should be solved regardless of whether this page is actually going to display this list or not.
I don't buy the "let's cater to people who can't be bothered to hunt about" argument when, essentially, hunting about is noticing a line that says something like "You can view the [locations of the rifts here]." Taken to its logical extreme, this is essentially "Let's have all the content on one page, because some people might not see it otherwise," which leads to bad experience for both editors and readers.
If you're going to invoke the words "consensus" and "feedback," you really should link discussions that demonstrate those -- as it stands right now, I can't figure out who, besides you, wants this list here, and for what reasons, which does your position no favours. -- foxlit (talk) 15:24, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
Agreed that multiple copies is redundant, but is a sub page with a link, hidden amongst the text, really the best location to supply pertinent information? The discussions were had offline, hence why I said that it should be talked about here rather than simply done without any form of discussion.
It is not "catering to people who can't be bothered to hunt about", simply a realisation that people are less inclined to use this as a source for information if they have to dig and look for an unremarkable mention that information can be found elsewhere - that is standard usability right there.
This page is not so unnecessarily large that the information shouldn't be here. Shouldn't the information be on the one source that is easiest for people to locate and find?
If it must be moved, clear links to where the information can be found should be put in its place, not the brief and unremarkable mention that was left here previously. It might be tidier having the information sub-sectioned away, but it's less user friendly and adds additional pages when a singular one will be sufficient for the task at hand. -- Berym (talk) 01:14, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
So, big and bold like it is now with a direct link to the "Locations" section? --k_d3 02:17, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Move to "Elemental Unrest"?

As per: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=27508585253&sid=1 Suzaku (talk) 15:05, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

Given there's an official name, that would make sense; I'm in favour of the move.
At the very least a redirect to make matters easier for people trying to find it. I'll create one now. -- Berym (talk) 01:17, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Buffs and Effects

Blaaarrrgghhh, the code has failed me. Does anyone see what I'm trying to do and know how to fix the monstrosity that is my failure? I've got all the info, just don't know how to make the tooltips display. Sulhir (talk) 01:26, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

There really isn't any point to having a separate page for each buff. They should probably just be listed on the mob pages for the rifts. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 01:29, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
Mob pages, got it.Sulhir (talk) 01:29, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
Also... where are these mysterious mob pages? If I knew the exact name of the mobs or the rifts I'd just go stick what I know there but I cannot find them.Sulhir (talk) 01:32, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
Well they don't exist yet. I'll fix that. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 01:40, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

4 Phases

Couldn't the first phase have been the earthquakes? So there is no mysterious 4th phase? -- Ecpyrosis (talk) 08:19, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

I doubt it seeing it's been going on for some time now Alchemic Warrior of Travels (talk) 10:16, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
The problem with that interpretation is the second sentence of the quote -- "We're on the first [stage of the event]" -- which was said after the rifts appeared. — foxlit (talk) 11:35, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
I suspect that we've got the third/fourth phases combined: The quest chain comprises the third phase and the invasion proper comprises the fourth (with the bonus bosses). --k_d3 23:23, 10 November 2010 (UTC)
I'd like to think that the fourth stage is the battles of Thunder Bluff and Ironforge from the Shattering, but that's probably too much to hope for. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 23:31, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

Start Time

The earthquakes started before 4.0.1. I'm thinking either 3.3.5 or 3.3.3, not sure when though. This patch made the much more noticble and frequent though.Dr. Cheis (talk) 01:55, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

Before 4.0.1 I could not confirm the earthquakes. They may be a few, but they were too short and without sound effects to be noticed. Since 4.0.1 they cannot be missed, like I missed them before, especially the last few days. Hans Kamp (talk) 13:48, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
I can confirm this. There is much discussion of earthquakes, and mobs hidden in Stormwind that are invisible but could be "tabbed" to and speculated to be part of the earthquake programming, which were in existance prior to 4.0.1. Ddcorkum (talk) 20:21, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
I found a link after much searching. Our 3.3.0 undocumented changes had the earthquakes beginning listed. Here's the link provided on that page:
http://www.worldofraids.com/topic/14939-is-the-cataclysm-pre-launch-event-starting/

Consequentially I'm updating this page to match the date of the 3.3.0 patch as the official start time. Dr. Cheis (talk) 06:16, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

(Moved from old location at Timeline of Pre-Cataclysm Event)

Hey guys. I'm sorry I made a sloppy edition to the page under the elemental invasion section, but I made some massive changes to it, and somehow the connection got dropped right before I tried to preview, erasing them all. I will be back later to edit it. I have to run but I wanted to get it up as soon as possible. The info is from http://www.reddit.com/r/wow/comments/dzlj4/precata_events_are_live_go_go_go/c143vbl Dcb2124 (talk) 21:08, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

Yanked it for now. When you're back, feel free to undo my edit. You may want to put it up on Shattering quest guide or something similar. This article is about the timeline... --k_d3 21:13, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
Don't mind the yank. There is a better guide on the actual elemental invasion page. But shouldn't you remove the dialogue under the previous section as well if its just about the timeline only? Also, why would there be an article for the timeline that did not features in-depth details of the event? Dcb2124 (talk) 15:44, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
I'm planning on eventually merging this and the Elemental Invasion page to have a page for the entire pre-Cataclysm event. Things are slightly tricky because of the slight mismatch of scope of the two pages, and the difficulty of getting the right amount of detail on an event summary page. -- foxlit (talk) 00:44, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
